Angelo, Amanda - Sunday evening

xp_logsIn response to a call from Angelo, Amanda comes down to Harry's to share the news.
He'd gone out without the image inducer, this time. He'd been doing without as often as he could, both for social and work things, and so now Angelo was sitting in a booth at Harry's with a view of the door looking just the same as usual... except for one small change.
Harry's. She'd heard a lot about it, but never actually been inside. Still, Angelo had seemed excited when he'd called, and her curiosity was up. Amanda blinked in the sudden dimness as she came in, and then smiled as she caught sight of Angelo. Without the inducer, even.
"Hey, Ange," she said, coming over and sliding into the booth. She tilted her head at him, trying to figure out what was different about him. Apart from him looking like the cat that had got the cream. "What's the big surprise?"
He grinned at her, shoving a plate of fries across the table. "Guess."
She poked her tongue out at him, and grabbed a fry to nibble on whilst she thought. "Got a haircut? No, that's not it... I know, new shirt?" Then she picked out the flash of silver on his shirt collar, and she leaned forward over the table. Taking the shiny new tag in her fingers, she turned it up to the light. "Well, bugger me."
Angelo laughed, turning his head so she could see the tag better. "Hey, that was quick, Miss Observant."
"Spy in training, you know." Light flashed off the tag as she tilted it to see it better, and then she let go, straightening his collar with a brief pat. "So, it's official and all? You're an X-Man now?"
"Yep. Nathan told me earlier, then Scott made the announcement, all official. Forge's workin' on my uniform already, he says."
Her answering smile was filled with affectionate pride - it was what he wanted, and he'd done so well already. "Which just leaves one thing - your code name. Or are they letting you stick with Sancho?"
"Nathan won't let me", he said with a laugh, reaching for his drink. "Said he'd smother me with a pillow if I did, an' told Scott he'd drown me in the lake. But he says it doesn't fit anymore anyway."
"It really doesn't." Amanda sat back, still smiling. "So, what's it going to be? I still think 'Stretcho' has a kind of a ring to it." The waitress appeared and Amanda ordered a Coke, knowing Harry probably still had her down as a student. Damn list.
Angelo was sticking to non-alcoholic too, not wanting to push it and get barred this close to being legal. He shrugged. "Not sure yet. Might just go with 'Skin', like Marie calls me."
"'Skin'. I like it." She grinned. "Short and to the point."
"Pretty much what Nathan said. Seems to like codenames that're easy an' quick to shout in an emergency."
"Someone should tell Remy that," she said with a snort. "But seriously, mate, I'm really proud of you. You really deserve this." She ducked her head a little, suddenly shy. "Then again, I won't be the first or the last to say so."
He blinked at the - to him - inexplicable shyness, then smiled. "Good t'hear it from you, though. I know you've not always been happy about the team stuff."
"That's my stuff to deal with - I shouldn't let it get in the way of what you want to do. And it's what you want, you've proved that ten times over." She gave him a wry look.
"Just don't get yourself hurt, yeah? You know how much I hate going down to medlab."
"I'll do my best", he promised. "Not exactly that keen on the place myself."
Amanda's Coke appeared, and she held the glass up to him. "Let's drink to that, and to Skin, with his brand new shiny X-Man tags."
He laughed and clinked glasses with her. "To bein' on the team an' stayin' out of the medlab."
