Backdated. Crystal and Medusa find time in their busy schedules for a chat and discuss various eating habits.

Medusa closed the door behind her, a harried look on her face that she quickly masked with a smile as a couple workers walked past. Her hair was wound tightly in a bun, but if you looked closely, ripples were visible at the edges. Glancing down at the files in her hand, Medusa’s sighed and then set off at a quick pace to deliver them to the waiting messenger. She paused as she passed an open doorway, ducking into the room, a smile (although a tired one) on her face. “~Hello, Little Crystal.~”

“~Greetings, Medusa,~” Crystal replied, looking up from her textbook to give her tired-looking sister a smile. “~I see that you have been taking lessons from Nathan and the other members of Elpis who reside at Xavier’s. You are allowed to rest, you know. If you continue to overextend yourself while Mother is watching, she might not continue to look favorably upon your volunteer duties with Elpis.~”

The redhead shook her head slightly. ”~I have not been taking those lessons from Nathan, and the work I am doing here now is not Elpis related at all. I have been sitting in on the security council’s meeting and playing messenger. I felt it was only fair to give some of the clerks extra time off, especially those who were in the adjoining office to Nathan.~” Medusa’s eyes brightened slightly as she looked at her younger sister. ”~Though Mother tells me that you have been quite helpful during your time here as well. Perhaps I should be worrying about your exertion.~”

“~I take breaks,~” Crystal replied. “~I know that when you are here, you do too, but apparently when you are away from Mother’s watchful eyes, you stay up until all hours of the night speaking with people who are in the next room to you and do not get enough sleep, at which point you forget that your little sister is quite capable of taking care of herself and is not afraid to leave campus for the simple task of delivering a portfolio.~”

Medusa rolled her eyes, a gesture she had become quite accustomed to in her early adolescence. “~Tel Aviv was quite a different situation. There was a large quantity of work that had to be completed in a very short time. As for any lapse of judgment on my part, I blame the lack of sleep. You know I am quite accustomed to getting a full eight hours every night.~

“~I am certain that our clerks helped lessen the amount of work that needed to be done,~” Crystal said, “~and I am glad that they were able to feed the overworked Elpis members who would otherwise have starved to death at their desks.~ She smiled slightly, wondering if certain people had become too accustomed to having people around who were eager to feed them. “~I hope that they did not have to prod you into eating more than your usual quick meal of rice cakes and diet soda.~”

Medusa smiled sweetly, her empty hand trailing up into the air. “~I am sure that I managed to add a piece of fruit or two to help keep my energy at an optimal level, not to mention all the nutrients I am sure were contained in the gallons of coffee I consumed.~” This last comment was said with a wink, the redhead’s playful side coming out for the first time since the bombings.

“~Oh yes, coffee is quite a nutritious beverage,~” Crystal laughed. “~At least you are here now and can eat proper meals, plus you have the opportunity to get your full eight hours of sleep.~” Crystal motioned at the papers Medusa was holding in one hand. “~You said that you are playing messenger, yes? I can take a break from my studies and accompany you if you do not mind.~” Crystal was not one to leave work for the last minute, and she was dutifully completing her schoolwork every day. This was not a vacation, and her Xavier’s assignments were part of her current necessary duties.

Medusa nodded in appreciation and exited the room with Crystal at her side. “~In truth, I do not think my eating habits differed all that much during my time in Tel Aviv compared to normal. I have never in my life required a small army of young girls to feed me and I do not plan on initiating that necessity any time in the near future..~

“~Yes, but you are clearly more sensible than the majority of Xavier’s residents,~” Crystal pointed out, still smiling. “~You appear to still remember to eat on your own and therefore do not require being fed by other people, plus you value sleep. Yes, at times there is much work that needs to be completed, but is it truly helpful for someone to work to such a point that he needs someone to physically remove what he is working on and place food within eyesight?~” She shook her head. “~You must be careful, Medusa; the insanity at the mansion appears to be contagious, and I am sure that you do not wish to be considered insane.~” Crystal was fairly certain that the school’s insanity was already taking hold of her sister.

Medusa chuckled, though she felt slightly guilty. She was fond of Nathan and the Elpis crew, but she was unable to argue with her sister’s point. Saved from comment by arriving at their destination, Medusa handed the files to the clerk typing fervently in the office they had entered. “~Perhaps I should take one of those breaks now, if you would care to join me. Let us see what the chefs have prepared today. Perhaps I will be tempted from my rice cakes.~” With a twinkle in her eye, Medusa knew her sister was the only one who would know whether or not she was kidding.
