Laurie decides Crystal needs to be fed. She manages to avoid snippy retorts from Crystal even if Crystal's mental thoughts are as sharp as ever.
Laurie knocked on the door to Medusa and Monet's suite and then pushed it aside while juggling a silver tray that contained a toast rack with two pieces of freshly toasted bread, various little jars of jam, marmelaide, peanut butter and honey, a pot with freshly brewed tea and various other edible things. She hadn't known exactly what Crystal's preference for breakfast was so she'd just put a selection of everything together.
"Hey there." she said softly, smiling at Crystal where she lay on her bed. "I bring you room service."
Her head turning slightly, Crystal looked over at Laurie, her eyes glancing at the tray for a moment. Right. Of course. She was being fed. She'd known that was bound to happen, hadn't she? "Good morning, Laurie," Crystal said. "Thank you. You..." Her first thought was to tell Laurie she could leave the tray on the table near her bed, but that would be telling Laurie to go and that was rude... and she didn't need to do any more of that if she could help it. "That was very thoughtful of you."
"Not so much thoughtful, as a way to see you're alright." Laurie replied, placing the tray on the table near her bed and grabbing a chair from nearby. "I was worried about you. Also, giving myself something to do other then fret is probably a good idea right now."
She knew it was just a reaction to her friends being missing but she'd had an overwhelming need to check on everyone recently, and it was only after she'd made sure they were okay that she felt like she could breathe again.
"I am fine," Crystal replied. "Thank you for your concern. I will follow the doctors' instructions so that my leg will heal properly." Laurie needed to be occupied so she wouldn't fret. "How were classes yesterday?"
"Hard. I don't think anyone was really in the right frame of mind to learn, and the teachers were distracted too." Laurie replied, hand going to her air scrubber as it usually did when she was anxious. "We're going to see if they don't mind us having a mini-camp out in the rec room, give people a place to go if they don't want to be alone right now."
Crystal gave a slight nod and glanced at the tray for a moment. "Yes, I suppose holding classes yesterday was a way to attempt to have the day run as smoothly and normally as possible even if not much in the way of actual classroom learning was done." She poked lightly at a piece of toast before looking back at Laurie. "That will be nice. I cannot imagine why the teachers would not let you do this as long as you do not attempt to set marshmallows on fire in the middle of the room."
"Note to self, make sure Angel doesn't set any marshmellows on fire, no matter how much the littlies beg." Laure replied with a brief smile, smoothing down her skirt and shifting slightly in place. "Are you...well, you're obviously not okay, but well, if you wanted to talk? I've been told I'm a good listener."
"They were taken right in front of me," Crystal told Laurie. "This was planned. Someone wanted to take us.. them... one of them... I don't know. It was not random. There was a plan, and this plan is now being carried out and we do not know what is happening to them. Our attackers did not seem to care how much they hurt us."
"People who would do this sort of thing usually don't." Laurie replied, reaching out and placing a hand on Crystal's, squeezing gently. She was confident enough of her control at the moment that she shouldn't effect Crystal with her power. "But, the fact that they did try to take you, rather then just kill you means that they've got a reason to keep them alive. As long as that reason stands, there's hope. I know that probably doesn't help, you can hurt someone quite a bit and they'll still be alive. But, the Professor and the other staff are looking for them, and they will find them, I know it."
Crystal remained silent for a moment. Believing they would do their best and believing they would succeed were two entirely different matters. This time they had been able to start the search right away, but what did that matter if there was nothing to go on? Marius and Jennie were not out and about in Europe, they were... who knew? Maybe they had been brainwashed and possessed and were out in public view, but that didn't seem very likely.
"I do not know whether or not they would have minded if one of us had died, Laurie," Crystal finally replied. "Perhaps you are right, though. As long as they are kept alive, there exists the possibility that they will be returned safely." In what condition, though?
"It must be hard, not being able to search for them yourself. I know you had a hard time last time Jennie was missing." Laurie said, wondering what Crystal had been trained to do in case of a kidnapping. Being a Royal, she may have been, considering high profile people usually were. Although, having said that, she knew almost nothing of Attilan, and so couldn't be sure. It was weird, that she could mention 'last time', and not be shocked by the weirdness of it being a regular occurrence. She wondered if she was losing her sense of perspective, or just being numbed to crisis situations. She was worried about her friends, she knew that much. She hoped that they were okay, and trusted her elders to find them, and protect them.
Could she be doing more though? She didn't have any training, but maybe she should be asking about it, getting training that was. She releaced Crystal's hand, not now sure she wouldn't be transfering her worry to the other girl. It was hard enough, without your body doing things your mind wasn't telling it to do.
"I would not even know where to begin looking for them," Crystal pointed out. "Where would I start? They could be on a neighboring street or they could be on the other side of the globe. I am sure all possible aspects are being investigated."
"Not knowing where to start, doesn't make the desire to help any less. Just makes it more frustrating because logically you know that there's nothing you can do, and that everything that can be done, is being done, but emotionally it's a whole different matter." Laurie mentioned, thinking about her own frustration, and how she was dealing with it. "Being busy helps, least with me. So I cook, and look after my friends who are here. And you guys get to be patient with me over my fussing"
Was Laurie trying to help or make things worse? Who needed to have their own helplessness repeatedly pointed out to them? Was that what helped Laurie cope with such situations? Luckily, Crystal had had the past day to calm down somewhat and she really didn't want to say anything to Laurie for which she would need to apologize later.
"You are a very active participant in the fine Xavier's tradition of feeding people," Crystal said, reaching for a piece of toast. "I suppose I should eat something before heading off to class."
"Eating will certainly help you heal faster." Laurie replied, looking around her. It was a nice room, as far as it went, although without the obvious personal touches that a permanent residence might have. "What class have you got first? I'm meant to be doing science, I think."
Class? Yes, she had classes. Life carried on as usual. "Music," she said, spreading jam on her toast.
"And speaking of classes, I should go. I've got to get ready for mine." Laurie replied, getting to her feet. "I'll come back for the tray later?"
It wasn't that she meant to run off so abruptly, it was just that she'd caught a glimpse of the time on her watch and she didn't want to be late. The teachers were tense enough without them having to worry about why she wasn't in class.
Crystal nodded and offered Laurie a small smile. "Thank you for breakfast," she said.
"Any time." Laurie replied with a smile, closing the door behind her as she left.
