At long last, Cain appears to take the escapees home.

The pickup rattled to a stop outside the farmhouse, and Cain instinctively did a full turn as he slipped out the driver's-side door. Kids had gotten away on foot, they'd said, from some dairy farm. That meant out to the west, and that whole direction was nothing but county road and open field. Anyone following them either had to be invisible or taking the really long way around. Either way, it was time to end this shit and get home.

Walking up to the house, Cain rapped his knuckles against the doorframe (not the door - house like this and a mood like his, he wasn't about to apologize for knocking the door clear off the hinges) until it opened and an older woman's face looked up at him.

"I'm Marko, from the school. Some of my kids are here?"

Before the farmwife could do more than open her mouth to respond, the sound of running feet echoed through the house. From behind the woman, a shock of red hair appeared as Angel skidded right on past the front door and disappeared from view again as she slipped on the hard wood floor. Feet scrambling, a second later she reappeared again and then squeezed around the woman.

"Mr. Marko!" she yelled, hands tossed in the air. Angel froze like that for a second, bottom lip quivering for just half-a-second before she launched herself at Cain. Without using her powers, she only managed to clamber half-way up his side but she hung on determinedly, face buried in his shirt and performed her best limpet impersonation.

Laurie appeared in the doorway, looking to her left at Angel, and then at Cain before launching herself at him. "Oh thank God. Please, you've got to go get Amanda and Angelo now!"

"Whoa, whoa, relax... first, everyone here's okay?" Cain lifted his arms awkwardly as the two girls stuck to him like magnets. "No one's too beat up or nothing?"

"We're mostly fine," Dani replied, helping Crystal into the room, "And improving. We left Amanda and Angelo. They weren't with us and we weren't able to look for them." It had been the right decision, but she was still feeling guilty for making it. Now that Cain was here though, things were looking up significantly.

"Everything's going to be okay," Cain said, nodding a thank-you to the old couple that had sheltered the girls. "You know there's no way we'd leave anyone behind. None of you."

"Angelo was hurt," Crystal told Cain. "He and Amanda were separated from us, but we know that he was injured."
"Angelo's fine," Cain reassured Crystal, nodding to the girls. "I picked him up a few hours ago. Now, who's ready to thank these kind folks and get on our way home?"

Standing quietly in the doorway behind the other girls, clothed in the cast-offs the older couple had lent her, Sooraya nodded her agreement. "Home is a very good idea, I think," she said. "Let us go there."
