Julio and Jean - Tuesday Morning
Jun. 12th, 2007 09:10 amBacktimed to before this thread. Julio gets his scratches dealt with after his cat-shaving escapade before he gets the hell out of dodge. He also offers to repay Jean the favor.
Gently cradling his forearm, Julio entered the medlab and looked around. "~Oh please, no scary soviet communist doctor, please please....~ Ah, Doctor Grey?" The boy looked at the redheaded doctor pleadingly. "I have, something of a problem."
Jean's eyes widened and she quickly set down what she'd been working on, waving the boy towards one of the examining tables. "What's wrong, Julio?" she asked, sounding worried.
"I uh, had an accident. With, um. A chair. A very angry chair." Julio pulled back his shirtsleeve to reveal long, angry scratches on his left forearm. His right hand also looked like it had been bitten. The marks were probably less likely to have been left by a chair and more likely by a small, annoyed animal.
And, given Jean lived with a cat who enjoyed making her life unpleasant, it was even easier for her to make the connection. "A chair Shamu was already sitting in, I take it?" she asked wryly, already collecting antiseptic and bandages. Although that wouldn't really explain the areas that had been scratched up.
"Ah yes, that one. I was trying to do him a favor and he bites me for my pains. ~Ungrateful little hairball.~" Julio settled on the table and held out his arm for Jean to examine. There weren't a lot of scratches, but a couple were deep. The cuts on his hand were oozing blood sluggishly.
"Sorry for the sting," Jean said as she set about cleaning his wounds. Given the quantity and depth of some of these scratches, Jean suspected there was more to the story than Julio was telling - Des tended to swipe at her and then run, and this looked to have been an all out war. "Must have really not liked that favor," she said, fishing a little as she washed out a particularly deep scratch.
Julio shrugged and hissed when Jean swipped at the cut. But then he grinned. "It was so worth it."
The grin was definitely a form of confirmation, and Jean couldn't help but smile slightly in return. "I take it there will soon be bets placed about how long it takes for the retaliatory strike? And I'm gonna assume, since you're smiling, that Shamu took no real damage?"
"That little pendejo should be thanking me, not only did he get a new haircut, but he will be much cooler now that it is summer. You would think with the way he was clawing at me I was doing more than just shaving him." Julio said, trying for indignant but really just generally amused. "I got bored?" He said by way of explanation.
The smile briefly widened before she got it back under control. "I'd give you the stern face, but I'm not sure I can pull it off, and the blood loss seems to match a certain value of repayment on the cat's behalf." The last of the scratches cleaned up and bandaged, she gave them another once over, looking for raised or excessively reddened skin - minor allergies tended to get worse if there was blood exposure. "If any of these scratches start getting terribly itchy, come see me?"
"I will. I do not think I am allergic to the cat. Unlike shellfish. If I eat shellfish, I die." Julio said cheerily. He flexed the muscle in his forearm and winced. "I foresee a long summer. Last year I hit the student counselor with sherbet."
"Right. We're going to have to see about coming up with something for you kids to do. I can not see Mr. Haller really appreciating a repeat of that."
"I could swear the man is crazy anyway. Sometimes it is like he is a different person when I talk to him." He flexed his fingers after Jean bandaged that hand. His father had entreated him to come visit for the summer, but after a discussion with the professor about his comfort level with his power control, it was decided that it would be best that he remained in New York. Trapped here. Again. Julio managed not to sigh. "Gracias, Dr. Grey."
The sigh came across in his manner, even when he didn't let it out, and Jean resolved to definitely come up with at least something for the kids to do. "Any time, Julio."
"Now, I flee into town. Because I shall have a very unhappy roommate. The cat makes him into a giant girl. I do not favor having to come back down here so you can re-attach a limb." Julio hopped off the table and gave Jean a small salute.
"Oh, I understand. I would definitely not be brave enough to try any such thing on my husband's cat. Good luck. Run fast."
"Hey, if you need plausible deniability," Julio held up a hand, "I can shave her if you want. I'll just learn from my mistakes and use some of the gloves Mr. Marko has for plumbing." He nodded seriously. "I'm not kidding, you want a cat shaved, I am your man."
Jean gave in to the laugh that was building, but managed to get her composure back and offer him a serious face as she said, "Why thank you, Julio. I shall keep that in mind."
"I mean it. Cat. Shaved. No problem." He pointed with two fingers to his eyes, and then to Jean. He turned to go, but paused and turned back around. "Also, would it be possible to schedule an eye exam? I think I uh." He gestured helplessly before mumbling something that sounded like: "I might need one."
Jean's eyebrows shot up. "Yes, of course," she said. "We can only do something fairly basic here, but there's a good optometrist in town, if something shows up."
"Ah, gracias." Julio shrugged. "But now I should go. Kyle will be finding out about his cat--" Julio checked the time on his cellphone. "Now."
Jean grinned. "Come down later, when you're not in a rush, and we'll look at your eyes. For now, go on, scat."
