"Hey, Yvette..." Monet had run into Yvette in the hallway near where
the Xavier's contingent had been put up. "I was wondering if you
wanted to go see the city and things? We don't need to get back and
start getting ready for a few hours."

Yvette nodded eagerly. "Yes, I would be liking that very much!" she
replied. From what she'd seen, Attilan was beautiful, and she had no
fear of going out here, having heard from Crystal that mutants were
safe here. She fell into step beside Monet, looking up at the taller
girl. "Are you to be visiting the strange country before, Monet?" she
asked, curiously. Everyone at the mansion seemed to fall into one of
two categories - extremely well travelled, or not much at all.

Monet nodded. "I've been here the once, with Crystal. It's a really
pretty place. You've not been here before, have you?" Monet thought
for a moment, coming up with a few ideas - the law courts were pretty
and there was the old city.

Yvette shook her head. "No, I have not," she replied. "I have been
only to a few places - my home in Kosovo, and Monaco, but I am being
in the coma then, and then America. But I am glad to be visiting
Crystal's home. She is talking very much about it."

"It doesn't count if you don't remember it. It's in the rules. It's
why I've never been to Dubai." Monet nodded sagely. "Didn't you go to
Hungary, with the Elpis people, though?"

"Oh, yes! I am being silly, to forget." They left the palace building
and entered the grounds, the sun bright and warm, and the younger girl
shaded her eyes. "I am meeting Mr. Barath, who is the Prime Minister
now. He is being the very nice man."

"You met a politician who was nice? Wow. More than I've ever managed.
Anyway, what do you want to go and see?"

"I am not being sure... perhaps we could be walking and seeing what is
interesting?" Yvette suggested. "Because we are not needing to be back
for the little while?"

Monet nodded. "Sounds awesome. Besides, this is Europe. They've always
got this," and she waved her hands expansively, "old stuff thing
going on."

Yvette giggled at the Australian. "One day you are to be visiting my
home, and then you are seeing very much of 'the old stuff'," she
replied.

----

Monet smiled and pointed to a little cafe, complete with outdoor
tables. "How about a drink?" She flopped into a chair at one table,
nudging the other out for Yvette.

She perched on the chair with some relief. They'd walked over a good
part of the city, wandering into various places, including the art
gallery and the museum. Attilan wasn't big, but it did have a lot to
see, and Yvette was glad she'd brought her camera. "A drink would be
very good," she agreed, wriggling her toes a little as she crouched on
her heels in the chair - it tended to be the more comfortable position
for her when she was spiky. "Are you to be having the good time,
Monet? I am."

Monet nodded. "Oh yeah. I get to stay in a palace. It's like the
universe turned around and remembered that I'm special and fanasticer
than everyone else." She paused for a moment. "It's are you having.
What do you want to drink?"

"Apple juice," Yvette said somewhat predictably, and with a grin - her
skin was softening by the day. "Please, what is 'fantasticer'? Is this
being the more fantastic?"

"Juice it is." Monet waved over the waiter and ordered - the cafe was
...at least trilingual but the waiters seemed to speak French.
"Fantasticer is being more fantastic. Like fast and faster. Er, it's
not proper English, tho'".

Yvette wrinkled her nose slightly. "And this is to be why English is
so hard to be learning. There are words that are not words." She
looked around the street the cafe was on, noting that none of the
people passing by were giving her more than a cursory look. "I am glad
to be coming here. It is being... how you say? Relax? That there are
no people staring?"

Monet laughed. "We could make them stare but that would just defeat
the purpose, wouldn't it?"

"Yes," Yvette replied wryly. "But the people are to be staring at you
for you being pretty, so it is being the different staring," she
pointed out.

Monet shook her head slightly. "So you're saying you're not pretty?"

"I am being spiky," Yvette pointed out. "It is not being the same.
Unless you are liking the cactus plants?" she added, with a hint of
humour.

"Mmm, cactus. But, seriously. Have you even looked in a mirror
lately?" Monet waved one hand for emphasis. "Your face is losing that
little kid thing, getting some more definition. You've got this
amazing cheekbones thing coming through. And your eyes. Your eyes are
good. Most people don't have good eyes. Like, oh, Jean doesn't have
good eyes."

Those same eyes turned on Monet, glowing slightly. "You are thinking
so?" she asked, perhaps not as dubiously as she might have done even a
month ago.

Monet nodded emphatically. "Shit yeah. You're gorgeous. We've still
got a bit of time left before tonight. We? Are going shopping. What do
you say?"

"I..." Yvette paused, thinking of the pretty dress Clarice had loaned
her. She'd told Yvette that she was pretty as well. And it was
a party. "I think I am saying yes."

"Wonderful! Let's get you some makeup.
