Backdated to around 12pm today due to player absence.
Amanda and Wanda are training in the Danger Gym when something completely unexpected happens.
"Powers on...now," Wanda announced suddenly, dropping down to attempt to sweep Amanda's leg with her own, reaching out with her powers at the same time. The mat underneath the two was suddenly feeling uneven and she grinned at the younger girl through the sweat on her face. They were working hard tonight and at her signal, they would go at each other with powers on or off.
A month or more of downtime had told on Amanda's fitness and the witch stumbled back, foot catching on a sudden raised edge of the mat. Flinging out her hand, she snapped her fingers and Wanda found herself with a werelight zooming straight for her eyes whilst Amanda took advantage of the distraction to regain her footing. In contrast to Wanda's easy manner, she was obviously concentrating, sweat plastering her tied-back hair to her face and neck and sticking her tank top to her body.
Biting back a curse, Wanda instinctively closed her eyes, throwing up a hand to keep George as far away from her eyes as possible. Still, she was momentarily dazzled and knew that as soon as Amanda could she'd be back on the offensive. Good. The real goal of the day was pushing and testing limits and she decided it would be a good idea to stay with powers on for a little while. Even with her eyes closed, she could see the flicker of the werelight pulsing around her head and Wanda shifted to the left as she stroked a few of the strings in anticipation of an attack.
There was a follow-up - Amanda came in close, taking advantage of Wanda's temporary blindness to snap a couple of punches at her head. And of course, Wanda's powers being what they were, her shoelace managed to come undone and get caught under her other foot, pitching her forward. 'Oh well, if that's how it's going to be,' Amanda thought, and let her momentum carry her forward, intent on catching Wanda in the solar plexus with her shoulder and knocking her down.
Wanda's eyes snapped open right before Amanda hit her, not giving her enough time to dodge out of the way. She managed to grab Amanda by the shoulders and braced herself as the momentum and joint weight carried them both backwards. Hitting the ground, her shoulders curled to take the brunt right as her leg came up, trying to force Amanda up and over.
There was a yelp as Amanda sailed over the top of Wanda, momentum aided by Wanda's foot. The slap of her hands on the mat as she tried to break the impact triggered the shielding spell, filling the room with a metallic haze. "Oof," the witch said, lying on her back on the mat.
Grunting slightly, Wanda rolled over onto her side and eyed the shield that now surrounded Amanda. She knew she could disrupt, for lack of a better term, certain mutant powers. With a grimace, she remembered Kurt's teleportation 'mishap' when Chthon was in control. But this really was different kind of power and she wasn't sure if she could interfere with it outside of a direct hex bolt. She grinned and started to press carefully, testing it. No time like the present, she decided, to figure out the answer to that question.
Amanda's shield rippled, the sheen going flat and grey rather than metallic, echoing concrete and cement. Amanda sat up and gave Wanda a questioning - and slightly challenging - look. "Playing it that way, huh?" she asked her mentor with the first hint of a grin since the session had started. Well then, time to see how all the study was impacting... she lifted her hands and pushed the shield outwards. Maybe she could use it as a kind of blunt force...
That seemed to have backfired. Rolling over again, Wanda scooted herself backwards and away from the moving shield. Moving shield of cement looking stuff—they'd have to remember this for later. It was obvious that she couldn't affect the shielding outright and all it was doing was causing Amanda to notice her efforts and hone in on her. A glance backwards told her she was running out of room and she reacted. Amanda was, after all, only so big and with the shield getting larger by the second, there was plenty of room to throw a hex bolt without worrying about anything remotely squishy getting in the way. She rolled to the side, a hand flinging the bolt away from her as she tried to gain a little more ground.
A disk of pale light flickered near the wall, hardly brighter than the lights around the gym. Illyana, appearing, barely had time to confirm that Wanda was in the room and to say, "That weird old lady called and she wanted - " before Wanda's hex bolt hit Amanda's shield. Without warning, the stepping-disk pulsed out, flaring hot and bright, and though Illyana usually tried to have the tightest possible control on her portals, it was absolutely uncontrolled.
When the light subsided, she was gone again.
In the brief silence that followed, Amanda gaped at the spot the other girl had been, letting the shield drop. "Did we just..." She swallowed. "Did we just blow up our admin assistant?"
Wanda pinched the bridge of her nose as she scrambled to her feet. "The lack of gooey Illyana bits is a plus, I suppose," she responded. "Match is over, let's see if we cannot find out wayward Russian…"
As calm as she sounded, there were two words bouncing around in her head at the moment. Oh shit.
