xp_logsCrystal's month to find Maximus ended and she returned to the palace. However, with her task unfinished, Crystal decides to leave again. This time, she gives advance notice of her time away, but her need to be away does not go unquestioned.

Forge's explanation for why Crystal was away only held up until school started again, and Crystal had found herself needing to make a decision. Should she keep looking without contacting anyone, get in touch with someone at the palace and let them know she'd continue to be away, or should she return to the palace? In the end, she decided to return in time for the start of the new year, but she still wasn't any closer to finding Maximus than she had been when she left the palace nearly two months earlier. She had to go back out and look again, but she couldn't just leave again. Crystal didn't want anyone else to know what she had planned because she didn't want anyone else at the palace to be able to be held accountable for her actions. She was not doing an official, royalty-sanctioned search, she was searching on her own.
Official notice of her absence had to be given, Crystal thought, and so she found herself approaching the man who was running The Amaquelin and Boltagon School for Abilities Enhancement, another member of the royal family of Attilan, Lord Karnak Mazur. "I know that the school year has just begun," Crystal told him, "but I need to make an official request for time off from my teaching duties."
Karnak gave her a curious look that seemed to be equal parts searching. "You've spent a great deal of time away," the headmaster of the school said. "May I ask why this need to absent yourself continues?"
"I need some time away," Crystal replied honestly. "I am afraid that I am having somewhat of a delayed reaction to what has happened to my parents, to me, and to Attilan. At this time, I believe that some time alone will help me. The students here are very important and they deserve more than I can give them right now.~
He raised an eyebrow, studying her closely. Given his mutant power, the intentness of his scrutiny was worth noting. He relaxed slightly, as if he had reassured himself that there was nothing obviously wrong with her. "Will you be staying at the palace?" he asked.
Crystal shook her head. "No, I will not be remaining at the palace. As I said, I need some time for myself. I cannot do this if I stay at the palace." Crystal was doing her best to avoid outright lies without telling Karnak of her plans to search for and find Maximus. Whatever the outcome of her search, surely the truth would come out to the other members of the royal family, and she wanted to remain as honest as she could. This was something she needed to do, it was something for which she had to be away, and it was something she had to do on her own. "I will get in touch with you in a few weeks and let you know whether or not I am ready to return to the school at that point."
His slight smile said that he'd expected the response, and was not at all reassured by it. "Very well, then. You will keep in contact with the palace - regular contact?" Karnak tilted his head slightly. "For your sister's peace of mind, if nothing else," he said, in unsubtle reminder of the losses the royal family had suffered.
Crystal didn't need any reminders of their losses. Although her stated goal in finding Maximus was to discover what, if anything, he knew about the island's move, she also wanted to confront the man who had forced her to assist in the death of her parents. When she'd left Xavier's, she'd thought she was leaving the crazy world behind her. Attilan was home; it was supposed to be safe. Maximus had turned everything upside-down with his crazy plan and idiotic notions and his thoughts... he'd made her know his thoughts and even more, he'd made her believe that they were right.
"Yes, I will be in contact with Medusa," Crystal replied. She knew she would have to be careful and that she would not be allowed to truly leave on her own as the Princess must be guarded and protected at all times, but she also intended to choose her own guards. At some point, she would probably need to pull a disappearing act on her own. Yes, it would alert Blackagar and Medusa and the royal guards, but she had meant what she had told Forge: she would do whatever she needed to do. The idea of simply disappearing into the night again was quite appealing, but Crystal was trying to be as responsible as she could under the circumstances. "I do not wish for anyone to have to worry about me."
