Forge & Dani bond over motor grease like only they can do. She's still kinda pissed about his disappearance.

One of the nice things about being tall was that she rarely needed a stool or anything to do basic maintenance on her favorite truck to drive. It was a beaten and battered Ford from the 60's and it was the only car Dani drove if she could help it, although Cain drove it from
time to time too. It was time for the old truck to have an oil change so she was checking all the fluids. Bending over the front grill Dani hummed to herself as she worked.

"Ah, the broken down smog-belching beast," Forge said as he walked into the garage. "And hey, a truck, too."

"It's not broken, just needs a tune up," Dani corrected him, although it could be debated if she was talking about herself or the car. "About damn time you came around, Hahkota." She had taken his disappearance hard and hadn't wanted to seek him out. Let him miss her for a change.

Forge shrugged, walking around to the other side of the hood and rolling up his sleeves. "I've been around," he said, "still just barely getting my bearings. Taking a while for things to be familiar again, you know?" He reached into the engine, dragging one finger over the spark plug connectors and frowning when it came back streaked with brown. "I swear, this engine falls out of tune faster than a drunken tenor."

"It's a good engine, though," Dani countered, "With regular checks, it does just fine. Don't even need any duct tape to hold it together," unlike the cars she had worked on prior to Xavier's. Even the older work cars were of a higher quality than she was exposed to growing up.

Forge made a noise of approval, reaching over to a tool rack for a wrench and a wire brush, then began removing the spark plugs and cleaning them. "These older engines aren't the most efficient, but they do the job they were made to," he commented, blowing a thin dust
of carbon particles off the plug. "So hey, did Marie give you that article I found about the modern Cheyenne art exhibit that's on display at MoMA this month?"

"Yeah," It was an interesting article and she was interested in going. Pulling the oil dipper out she wiped it on a rag to check the oil levels, "You going, ain't ya?" She was regardless, but it would be nice if he did too and preferably with her.

"Planned on it," Forge said casually. "Some of what they were showing in the newspaper looks neat, and who knows? Some exposure to culture might do me some good."

"You ain't gonna disappear again," Dani wanted to make sure. "'Cause don't go if you're gonna disappear in some other country and be gone for 2 years again." It had only been a few weeks for her, but that wasn't the point. He looked like her Hahkota, but he was different too. It was disconcerting.

Forge looked up from the engine and smiled. "I doubt there are any temporal anomalies in the Museum of Modern Art. At least, they haven't put them in the brochure."

"Good," Dani pronounced, measuring out the oil she needed. "Because if you ever disappear like that again...." she trailed off, what would she do? Probably the same thing she had done this time, worry. "I will tan your hide when you get back."

"That how they taught you to talk to your elders?" Forge exclaimed with raised eyebrows, then grinned and reached over to playfully punch Dani in the arm. "Just kidding there. I still haven't gotten used to being older than half the folks I was younger than just a few months
ago."

Elder? Ha! "In the whiteman's world, do as the whiteman do," Dani replied solemnly ignoring the punch before breaking into a huge smile, "And you might be older, but you will never be taller," she leaned over him to demonstrate. Just in case he forgot.
