They have a long-overdue talk, and manage to lose at least some of the awkwardness by the end.

Kurt might have been putting off the inevitable - and necessary - visit to Marie just a little bit. Given the strength of her reaction to the news, he was a little afraid to go. After all, what if she wanted to pretend none of it was happening, brother and all? Eventually, though, he could put it off no longer and made his way along to her suite.

Marie resisted the urge to ignore the hesitant knock on her door. Truth be told, she needed to stop acting like a giant baby, accept the news and move on from it. After all, what did it really change? So maybe her genes were a little more screwed up than most...at least she hadn't been raised by Mystique. Opening the door, she blinked as she realized Kurt was the one who'd been knocking. And that maybe more had changed than she'd been letting herself realize.

He offered a tentative smile, not willing to step inside uninvited. "Hello, Marie. I thought we should talk."

"Uh, yeah," the southerner stammered. "Come in. Sorry about the text. Ah, uh, wasn't quite myself. Shouldn't have dumped things on you that way and then let it drop."

"I think it was understandable", was the quick response. "You had a lot dumped on you as well, after all."

"To say the least," Marie muttered. "Ah, uh, well...you don't have to change anything if you don't want to," she quickly blurted out. All she needed was Kurt feeling some sense of obligation to her - he'd already had enough placed on his shoulders for the year. "Ah know between Margali and the rest of your family..." she trailed off.

"You are my sister", he said simply. "Even if I did not know it before now - and Stefan and Jimaine would welcome you, if that is what you are worried about. But if it is something else, if you do not want... well. I will force nothing on you, Marie."

Sister. The word sounded strange to her ears...she had never been anyone's sister. "It's...you wouldn't be forcing anything on me. Ah," she paused, eyes casting down towards the tips of her socked feet, "just don't want to be any trouble."

"You - " he started, then chose his words more carefully. "I do not think you will be any more trouble to me now than you were as my friend. And family is a good thing to have."

"Trouble seems to follow me around lately," Marie said, walking over to her couch and flopping onto it. She still seemed to be having trouble making eye contact with Kurt. "But family...," Marie stopped, swallowing hard. "Well, family is what you make of it, Ah've been told by some folks smarter than me. A brother. Not a bad thing to have, right?"

He was having something of the same difficulty, reluctant as he was to push anything on her before she was ready. "I would like to think it will not be", he offered, staying standing near the door.

"Logan's been the closest thing Ah've had to family around since Ah got here," Marie said quietly. "And like you said, family is a good thing to have." Finally looking up at Kurt, she took in his body language and his proximity to the door. "First though, Ah think we both gotta relax," she said, gesturing at an armchair.

Kurt nodded slowly and made for the chair, curling up in it when he got there without visibly relaxing at all. "I will try. And then we can talk?"

Marie nodded, though she wasn't quite sure how to manage her own decree. "What do brothers and sisters talk about anyways?"

"The same things as friends do, I believe", he said with faint amusement. "For the most part." At least in their case, where there was no shared blood family they could talk about.

"Huh," Marie said. "Well, that should be easy enough, right?" she asked, the little sign of amusement from Kurt helping her to relax.

"Hopefully, yes." He was relaxing a little in turn - it helped that she was visibly less tense. "And we have always managed well enough before."

"True," Marie said, smiling slightly. She had a feeling they had a lot of awkwardness left in their future, but if she managed to remember that she and Kurt and had been friends before they'd known they were siblings...well, then things couldn't get too bad, right? "So...want to go grab some breakfast?"
