Laurie stops by Kyle's room with his lunch. Kyle is very appreciative, also very drugged.
Laurie placed the cup on the little bedside tray and then put the sippy straw she carried beside it before gently touching Kyle's shoulder to wake him. It was time for him to eat and it was good for him to not sleep for too long, otherwise he'd find it hard adjusting again once he'd healed up entirely. "Kyle, wake up. Lunchtime," she said softly, so as not to startle him too much.
Kyle's first response was to cover his face with his arm and try to roll over. He didn't want to wake up – waking up meant either someone poking him in the face, bright lights in his eyes, or finding out that someone -else- was hurt. All the news had been who was hurt, and who was still missing, and he was getting sick of it.
But the plan to sleep until everyone was better and back wasn't going great, since people kept waking him up for food. Including himself. His stomach was a filthy traitor. "Wanna cookie." He mumbled, keeping his face covered but attempting to sit up. "No more mashed up baby food. Wanna -cookie-."
"You can't eat cookies right now," Laurie replied thoughtfully, placing her hand gently on Kyle's back to help him sit up as she wondered if Cookie dough ice-cream would be soft enough. "If you drink this though, I might be able to figure out some way to make you some cookie dough ice-cream."
Once he'd gotten upright, Kyle uncovered his eyes, and cracked one open. The lights were dimmer then he'd thought at first, someone remembered that bright lights and a just woken up Kyle were not a great combination. He took a cautious sniff, and then a bigger one when he realized two very important things.
First, that his nose was finally unclogged, and two, that what he was smelling was -cow-. Cow and beef fat and salt... he took another sniff, unconsciously moving towards the source of the smell. Tomato and basil. There was definitely tomato and basil involved in there. "How bad's m'face?" He asked. "You look like a wookie," Laurie joked, grabbing pillows and placing them against his back so he could sit up comfortably as she hooked the little rolling side table to move the cup within grabbing distance.
And grab Kyle did. It smelled good, and there was a bendy straw, and for some reason, the straw was funny. He couldn't have explained it, it just -was-. After playing with the bendy part of the straw until
Laurie crossed her arms and frowned at him; he took a sip to test, and then nearly drained half the cup in a single draw after the taste hit him. Then with the too careful movements of someone who was on painkillers, he set the cup down and reached over and hugged Laurie around the waist. "You made me Dr. Hank soup!" He mumbled happily.
Laurie laughed softly, she couldn't help it. A drugged Kyle was obviously an affectionate Kyle, not that she minded the hug. She was just glad he was alive and his healing factor was taking care of the worst of the damage. Mr Summers would take quite a bit longer to heal, unfortunately.
"Lorna pointed me toward the recipe, I told Dr. Grey-Summers that I'd take care of you till you were back up and around," she said.
"You're nice." Kyle said absently. "And you smell good." She smelled like a Laurie, and also the soup. This was an excellent combination. He let go of the hug to get his cup back, and took another drink.
"And you're pretty." It was important to tell girls that they were pretty. He really needed to do something nice for Laurie to thank her later. Maybe make her dinner. But, then, Kyle thought, that was what you were supposed to do for girlfriends, not just people who made you soup when you had a broken-healed-re-broken-and-set jaw and missing molars. He continued to drink his soup, thinking the problem over in his head.
Laurie blushed softly and giggled, a _very_ affectionate Kyle, it would seem. She took a seat on the end of his bed while he drank the meal, making plans in her head for what dinner would consist of.
She could probably make up banana pudding for dessert that was smooth enough that you could suck it through a straw and she knew Kyle liked fruit.
"I am indeed pretty, all the boys tell me so," Laurie commented with a grin. "Not many of them remark on my smell, however."
"You smell like my soup!" Kyle said, after he finished it and set the cup back down. It was so much easier to talk now that they'd found something to make it hurt a lot less. He leaned back against the pile of pillows and let the combination of stomach full of warm soup and fuzzy painkiller feeling and the addition of Contented-Laurie-Smell relax him into sleepiness. ""m gonna take a nap now." He said, fighting back a yawn.
"Okay, only good dreams though," Laurie said, picking up the cup and moving around the bed so she could tuck the covers more closely around him. "I'll wake you up again in a few hours for dinner."
"Okay..." Kyle agreed sleepily. "When my face is all better, we should go on a date..." He rolled onto his side and sprawled out. "Dates'r awesome cool." Before he could realize he'd said it out loud, he was asleep, and already snoring.
Laurie blinked, looked down at Kyle for a second, and then blinked again. Had he just? She blushed, but couldn't keep the wide smile from her face as she walked out of the room. She wondered if he'd remember any of this later.
