. . . and I'm not finishing the line, because the only halfway-appropriate rhyme for "castle" is "wrassle," and that's not entirely the right mood here. ;)  At Muir, before Proteus comes calling, Kitty and Jamie take advantage of the private room and thick stone walls to take a step they've both been thinking about for some time.  Or, to put it less tactfully, Kitty gets fed up with waiting for Jamie to make a move, sneaks into his room, and jumps him.

Nathan teases Amanda and Angelo about being careful with the Scottish beer, then asks them whether they'd prefer a little brother or a little sister. Things get a little mushy.

A little later, Nathan catches up with Haroun. He asks him what he thinks of the place. The conversation gets around to the whole 'boy or girl' question again, and oddly, winds up on the subject of family names and what they really mean.

Considering how long this is and the fact that it naturally falls into sections, the Proteus plot is going to be broken up. Thanks for everyone that did a log, that helped me bang it together, for being patient with delays and my first time handling anything this big. You guys kept me sane. Literally. There are some logs that will be coming later, including the very end fight.

Scott and Madelyn, New Year's Eve

Scott keeps Madelyn company down at the boathouse for a while on New Year's Eve. They talk about his trip to his grandparents, about Betsy, and about how eerily quiet it is around the mansion this week.

( I half-expect to hear tales of some titanic battle against a super-powered foe on Muir, you realise. )

Nathan, Haroun, and Shiro, Proteus aftermath (backdated to December 31st)

Hours after Proteus, Nathan finds Haroun out in the rain. They talk about feeling useless, and skill versus common sense. Then Nathan punches a hole in the castle. (Yes, literally.) He expresses a desire to see the person responsible for Proteus messily dead. Haroun sympathizes, and then flies off to think.

( Is this some form of penance? To see if you can freeze yourself to death out here? )

Later, Nathan finds Shiro in the kitchen and does his not-inconsiderable best to tear the young man's head off for ignoring orders out in the thick of the fight. Sunfire is not impressed. Then again, neither is Cable (who is, unfortunately for Shiro, the one driving at this point).
