Triscuit has trouble waking up Kurt when he's drained by the dance contest, but does manage to get Rahne's attention. Backdated to January 2.
Kurt was dead to the world at a much later hour than usual on Wednesday morning - meaning, he'd slept past dawn, and now it was almost 9am. Triscuit had done what he could, pawing and licking at the sleeping man's face, but he'd achieved nothing more than some not-at-all-awake petting.
Giving up on that, he chose to go and sit by the door and whine instead.
Rahne had stopped back by her own room and was about to return to the Elpis offices when a soft, keening whine caught her ears. She shifted a little without quite thinking about it, then turned and traced the sound quietly through the halls. By the time she reached Kurt's door, she might as well have been able to look through it and see the puppy. Hm. This seemed odd.
She knelt down briefly, putting her fingers by the bottom of the door to let her scent seep in, then stood up again and knocked.
That got a flurry of excited yapping, and then the puppy raced back into Kurt's room for another go. Get up get up! He was a little more insistent about it this time, and after a few minutes, managed to get Kurt to some semblance of consciousness. "...what?"
Rahne caught a hint of voice and, feeling slightly guilty about it, knocked again.
"...oh." He looked down at the puppy. "That is what you were telling me? All right." And, more clumsily than usual, he scrambled out of the bed and scooped Triscuit up before going to open the door.
Rahne blinked up at him for a moment. "Ah, good morning," she said, then hesitated. "...Would you like breakfast?"
"...good morning, Rahne." He was blinking back at her just as much. "You came just to offer me breakfast?"
She shook her head slightly. "No, I'm sorry, that was an impulse. I came because Triscuit was whining and I started thinking something might be wrong."
"He is used to being walked earlier than this", Kurt told her. "I... overslept, I suppose. I have been more tired than usual, lately."
Rahne nodded. He looked it, to be honest--dark circles under the eyes might be concealed by fur, but expression and body language were not. And he smelled like it. That wasn't a critique of his hygiene; weariness did distinctive things to body chemistry. Some of her tendency to feed people or hound them about looking after themselves was because it made her edgy for people she cared about to smell wrong. "Well, can I repeat the offer of breakfast, then, and possibly volunteer puppysitting services?" Nathan wouldn't mind, as long as she let him know she hadn't dropped off the face of the earth on the way back or something. She wasn't scheduled for any appointments this morning, and it wasn't as if it were exactly hard to get in touch.
"The offer of breakfast is very welcome", Kurt allowed with a crooked smile. "As is the puppy-sitting - it is not fair to keep him cooped up, just because I do not have the energy to keep up with him."
"Well, I would have to take him to the office for a while," Rahne said, "but I could take him out, too." She grinned. "And Rachel has enough energy to keep up with anything. Duly supervised, of course."
"And there is always the lake area", he agreed, grinning back tiredly. "He does like to swim, and Nathan could supervise in case of any difficulty."
"Right," Rahne said. "So, I'll let him know I'll be coming back in a bit, and start the cooking." A thoughtful glance down at Triscuit. "I can take the pup outside for a few minutes first, if I cook in my suite. Canna have him following me into the main kitchen, and all."
"Indeed, Lorna would not like that at all. Even if Triscuit would - and he will like going outside more." The puppy had spent the last ten minutes alternating between sitting on Kurt's foot and running from him to Rahne and back again.
"Let's be off, then." Rahne took a step back, glancing between Triscuit and Kurt. She was rather impressed with the puppy's self-control, really.
Lorna was very good with the housebreaking training, it seemed. "I will be dressed and ready for breakfast by the time you return", Kurt promised.
