Wanda and Jubilee
Feb. 18th, 2008 08:47 pmWanda finally gets around to making it slightly easier for Jubilee to crash in her living room.
Jubilee stood at the foot of Wanda's couch, a blanket and pillow firmly held in her arms as she moved nervously from foot to foot. She didn't really know the other woman very well, and so couldn't really get a handle on how best to act around her. As was mostly the case these days, she chose to remain silent till she could figure out how best to behave.
For her part, Wanda was shuttling books and papers from the couch to a new home. She'd just managed to shove a new bookcase into the growing forest of them, so that would be their place until she got them a little more sorted. She glanced over her shoulder, raising an eyebrow. "You can sit, you know," she said, mildly. "I only bite upon request."
Jubilee smiled wryly and slid onto the couch, placing her burden firmly beside her. "Sorry, I'm just a little out to sea right now. Thanks for givin' me a spot on your couch."
She resisted the urge to pull her legs up to her chest, aware that her self-preservation instincts, while good in an abstract sense, weren't exactly needed at this current point in time.
"Do not mention it," she responded, setting the latest pile on one of the shelves. She dusted off her hands as she turned around, eying Jubilee with a critical look. "How much of your own stuff do you actually have these days?" Wanda wasn't one hundred percent sure of the actual details beyond what Remy had told her in passing but Jubilee had pretty much been pulled in off the streets and, probably, had little in the way of belongings.
"Not much. I'm going over to the mansion tomorrow to pick up some of the stuff I left there...I need to talk to Professor Xavier anyway, clear up some unfinished business." Jubilee replied, gaze moving around the room, familiarizing herself with the layout.
"Until you get settled elsewhere, we will put your things in a spare closet or two," Wanda said, thinking about the space her apartment had to offer. She was going to have to tell Kurt that they were restricted to his place for the time being, she thought wryly.
Jubilee inclined her head slightly, indicating she understood and then sat there for a moment more in a somewhat uncomfortable silence, at least on her part. "So, any rules while I'm a guest here?" she asked finally, with a flicker of humour at the situation. Who'd have ever thought she'd be at a loss to find topics of conversation?
Wanda ticked them off on her finger tips. "Most of the books on these shelves are fine, anything else please do not touch on pain of being hung out the window by your ankles," she replied and then held up another finger. "If anyone is going to have sex on that couch, it will be me, so please refrain. I do cook and you are more than welcome to join me but I demand sink duty from you. Other than that, the general 'you break, you buy' mentality."
Jubilee's grin grew as Wanda counted down the list, she figured that she could do all those things. "Sink duty is probably safe enough, I don't think you'd ever want me ta try my hand at the cookin'."
She had long ago learned that the fine art of heating up small plastic boxes of assorted food was about the limit of her culinary ability and had quickly gone about perfecting her 'I'm helpless, cook for me? No, really, do you want me to starve? Because I will, right here.' method of getting something unprepossessed to eat. It worked to a greater or lesser degree depending on how well the person knew her, and how much of a bleeding heart they were.
She had the feeling that Wanda wasn't likely to fall for it, so washing dishes wasn't that much of a terrible price to pay, as far as she was concerned.
"The surrounding area is fairly good for food choices," Wanda filled in, gesturing outside her window. "So if you're hungry and do not feel like approaching the stove, all you have to do is walk out the building."
"Lifesaver!" Jubilee said, mock falling back onto the couch with a tragic expression. "I knew not what I would do if forced to do battle with the evil that is cookery."
Dramatics over with, Jubilee demeanor took on a more serious note and she was silent for a moment, as if lost in thought. "For what it's worth, thanks for doin' this."
