Catseye and Callie bond as they explore the woods behind the mansion.

IIt was the last day of summer even if it wasn't quite the vernal equinox. Labor day meant the beginning of school and the end of summer. In a few short days Callie would be back to studying hard once more and gone would be the days of lazing about outdoors reading. But for now she would enjoy the day, and was content to wander aimlessly through the woods with the recently arrived Catseye. Callie stopped, realizing that she had no idea as to where the purple feline had disappeared to. "Catseye," she called out as she continued to traipse through the woods.

Flying Cat Death From Above! With a battle cry Catseye leapt from a tree branch onto Callie's shoulder. PointyEarsGirl is IT! Launching herself off Callie's shoulder, she took off down the trail and turned back to watch the girl expectantly. Come on! PointyEarsGirl is it! "Mrrt!"

The sudden attack from above caused Callie to fall to the ground with an "oomph." Looking up from her current vantage point she was able to catch a glimpse of the cat as it scurried off. She pushed herself up, wiping the dirt off her hands and knees as she did so. "Catseye I'm not going to chase after you." When Catseye had mentioned going for a walk in the woods Callie certainly hadn't thought that she would be chasing the girl in cat form around like she was currently doing.

Disappointed, Catseye sauntered back over to Callie, keeping herself just out of grabbing range in case the girl was joking and was going to tag her. "Mrr?" She inched closer, pawing at Callie's shoe, willing her to engage in the game. Of course PointyEarsGirl is going to chase! The game is Chase! Hurry up and play! She bounded a few feet away and got into a pouncing position, but something Shiny caught her eye and she dove off the trail and into the trees, returning a moment later with a candy bar wrapper in her mouth, which she presented to Callie.

"Thank you Catseye," said Callie as she crouched down to accept the candy wrapper. She carefully folded it and placed it in her pocket, reminding herself to throw it out later. She actually was very grateful that Catseye had been attracted to the litter and brought it to over so that Callie could throw it out. She hesitantly reached out and pat the feline on the head, giving her a quick scratch as well.

Catseye gave Callie a purr in appreciation and bounded off down the trail again, turning back a few feet away and swishing her tail indignantly. Come and Chase, PointyEarsGirl! With a sniff, her ears flattened back against her head and she was off into the underbrush again, doing some chasing of her own- a mouse! She loved the wildlife in the woods!

Callie had two options. The first was to stay put and wait for Catseye to return. Or she could follow Catseye into the underbrush. While she would have preferred to stay on the path, Callie found herself trailing after her feline companion as it probably would be the safer option in case something were to happen to any of them. Callie pushed small branches out of her way as she the flashes of purple, equally enjoying their communing with nature.

The lavender cat was delighted that Callie had followed her, even though she was a little perturbed that the girl was making so much noise and alerting all the mousies to their presence. Catseye ran ahead for a few more minutes, catching a mouse too dumb to go underground upon hearing Callie approach. She wasn't really hungry, so she let the mousie go, turning back to walk with Callie, alert for more wildlife noises.

After a few minutes Callie stopped and glanced down at Catseye. "Wanna head back in?" She looked up at the sun's position. It wasn't too late in the day to make it necessary to return just yet, but she didn't want to keep Catseye out here if the other girl wanted to turn in.

Shaking her head in human fashion, Catseye bounded away again. She'd heard another noise. Deer! Elated, the purple feline returned to Callie, pawing at her shoe again. PointyEarsGirl! A deer! Come see!

"All right we won't." Callie laughed and watched in amusement as Catseye ran away again. She was enjoying this as weird as the whole situation was. She still was unsure of how to treat the girl who chose to live as a cat, but she was finding it less and less awkward. "What's that," Callie asked as Catseye pawed at her shoe. She took a few steps forward and caught sight of a young deer and its mother as they bounded away, probably startled by the noise she was making.

With a shrug she looked down apolgetically at the feline. "Sorry. Oooh!" A purple flower near Catseye had caught her eye and she crouched down to examine it. "Lobelia siphilitica!"

Catseye batted at the purple flower and looked up at Callie expectantly. "Mrr?" PointyEarsGirl likes pretty flowers? That would explain why she smelled like plants and the outdoors. Scampering away to a spot she remembered, the purple cat presented Callie with a white flower, spitting the stem out at the girl's feet. Catseye knows where all the prettiest flowers are!

Crouching down, Callie picked up the flower and twirled it in her hands. "Oooh it's a Pearly Everlasting," she exclaimed as she examined the present. "Thank you! It's so pretty." She stood up, beaming down at Catseye, and placed the flower between the elastic band that held her ponytail and her head. "What do you think?"

Catseye leapt onto Callie's shoulder and rubbed her head against Callie's cheek in approval. Suddenly her ears pricked back and she took off like a shot into the woods once more. Another deer? Running after her prey, the cat shifted into BigCat form to give herself an edge. The larger feline form brought Catseye's quarry into view and she skidded to a stop when she realized it was a baby deer. As a rule, she didn't hunt the baby deer.

A little dejected, Catseye returned to Callie, swishing her tail.

"It's probably for the best. I mean we have a lot of food at the mansion and we probably wouldn't have been able to eat it all and it would rot and that's not fair to the deer." Callie was trying to cheer up the dejected looking cat. "Speaking of. You hungry? I could go for a sandwich. And we might be able to find you some pastrami. Someone mentioned on the journals that you like that. Right?"

With a whuffing noise of agreement, Catseye pounced her enormous form on Callie, knocking the girl over once again. Pastrami! MineMineMine!

"I'm going to take that as a yes. But could you please let me up? And possibly change back into like something less scary? Please?"
