Callie meets a returning teacher in an atraditional way.

Marie stepped out of the cab, slung her bag over her shoulder, and handed the driver a few bills. As the cab left, she turned and stood for a moment, letting her thoughts go. She'd left before, the last time for much longer, but something about her latest break from the mansion felt different. The last time she'd returned, she'd known she was coming home. This time, she wasn't so sure. The building and the grounds looked the same as they always had, but something was...different, though she couldn't place her finger on it.

Her gaze drawn to the front door, she frowned. There were still some people she wasn't ready to run in to, explanations she wasn't ready to give.... She'd promised herself she'd stop avoiding her problems. Luckily, she hadn't promised herself when that would start. Lifting up off the ground, she opened a window on the second floor and slipped inside.

Callie had given up trying to do her homework in her room, it was just too distracting there to get any real work done. So she had taken herself and her books and found an empty room on the second floor where she was able to spread out her piles of paper. Having settled in to work Callie was ready to focus. Or at least she thought she was when a strange woman climbed through the window. Ever cautious, her hand reached for her Xavier's cell phone, ready to press the panic button if need be. "Ummmmmm" Callie was at a loss of what to say, and silently prayed that whoever this strange woman was she was not dangerous. "Hello?"

"Uh, hi," Marie said, a slightly sheepish look in her eye. Just her luck that someone would be sitting just out of sight of the window. She then noticed Callie's hand reaching for what she could only assume was the girl's panic button. And just her luck that it would be someone she didn't even know. "Ah'm Marie D'Ancato," she said as she reached out a gloved hand, hoping the girl might recognize her name. She really didn't want to have to explain to Forge or Scott why she'd snuck in the window instead of using the front door like a normal person. "One of the teachers here, though Ah'm a bit late for the semester."

Callie continued to eye Marie with suspicion, finger still primed on the button. Although she had a feeling that what was being said was the truth, it didn't make sense. She hadn't seen Marie around that summer, but she thought she had heard the name, though in reference to what Callie had no idea. And why was she sneaking in the window instead of using the front door? She was highly confused. "Okay... so why didn't you use the door?"

"Because the window was more fun?" Marie said, trying for a joking tone and almost achieving it. "Seriously, Ah just wanted to go to my room and take a nice hot shower before seeing anyone. Ah'm travel grimed." It was close enough to the truth anyways. "Ah didn't catch your name..." she added in attempt to shift the focus of the conversation.

"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean to like...." Callie paused, trying to figure out what to say next. If Marie really was who and what she proclaimed to be then there was no reason for Callie to be frightened. If all this woman wanted was to shower and go to her room, then pestering her would probably do nothing. Plus, if she had wanted to do something to Callie it would have already happened. "It's just that you were coming through the window... and I didn't know you and so... ya. Sorry. I'm Callie."

"Pleased to meet you," the Southerner said with a bit of relief as the younger girl seemed to relax a little. "So how long have you been here?" she asked, leaning against the wall.

"Likewise." Callie smiled. "I arrived in June," she continued thoughtfully as if trying to pull up buried information. Ya. June 23. Seems longer though." She shrugged.

"Is that good or bad?" Marie asked, happy to turn the questioning off herself. Avoidance was only too easy to slip back into.

"It is what it is?" Callie wasn't quite sure how to answer the question herself. Some of it had been good, but at times it felt not so grand. She leaned back, her hands placed on the floor for support, and looked up at Marie. "A little of both I guess? May I ask where you were traveling from?"

"From Canada," Marie replied. "Not doing anything too exciting though," besides sorting out my own head "Just visiting a former teacher from here and some other friends." Pausing, she cocked her head. "So what brought you to Xavier's?" she asked. A dangerous question to be sure, but usually on that told a lot about a person.

The pink girl shifted uncomfortably in place and pretended to focus on an imaginary dust bunny on her shorts. Marie wasn't the only one to want to avoid a subject. Although she knew she had nothing to be ashamed of really, Callie still felt differently. "Um powers problems," she said nonchalantly.

"Ah still have some of that myself," Marie said wryly as she wriggled gloved fingers. "But this is a great place for that." Even if she hadn't learned how to control her own ability, plenty of others had. Sometimes Marie wondered if she was the only one who would never get her abilities under control.

"That's why my father sent me." Callie gave a small nod. She had had enough of this talk of powers and problems with them, it was too depressing. "You said you teach here?"

Marie noted the immediate change of subject, but went with it anyways. "Yeah, P.E. and I'm gonna start helping out with flight this year too."

At the sound of this, Callie involuntarily wrinkled her nose. She didn't much care for the mandatory running around aimlessly and then do a million push ups deal. She did them of course, but she liked her physical activity to have more of a purpose. "Sounds fun?" she ventured finally after regaining her composure.

"The P.E. or the flying?" Marie asked, realizing she didn't know what Callie's mutation was, aside from the obvious physical component.

"Um both?" Callie hazard to guess, hoping that what she had done and said hadn't offended the teacher. A look of befuddlement appeared on her face. "I think?"

Marie laughed a little. "Didn't mean to confuse ya, that was just my way of trying to figure out if you fly. And Ah try to make P.E. fun, but Ah know it's the bane of some, so Ah'm actually gonna start offering a yoga alternative for those who aren't so much the throw this ball here or kick that ball there types of folks."

"Ohhhh. No. I don't fly unless there's an airplane involved." Callie smiled a little. "And I'm not really the 'run around kicking a ball type' but Yoga sounds fun. I might actually enjoy that!"

"Great," Marie replied with a smile. "Well Ah gotta run, but it was nice to meet you Callie. Guess Ah'll see you bright and early tomorrow," she said as she left the room.
