Return of the beer and pizza night! Two old friends catch up and dance around a lot of topics.
Marie knocked on the door to Amanda's apartment, which was no small feat considering her hands were full. "Ah'm here to make up for 6 months of being a bad friend," she called out, doing her best to balance the three boxes of food topped by a six pack of beer. "Ah bring offerings of peace...in the form of pizza, beer, and dessert..."
"Holy fuck, you went a bit overboard, didn't you?" Amanda said with a grin as she opened the door to find a walking pile of pizza (and other) boxes at her door. "You should disappear more often if I get this sort of reception. Here, let me get that for you..." She snagged the beer, not because the load was beyond Marie's strength, but because it was almost beyond her height. "I warn you, you're going to be hugged to death when you put that lot down," the witch.
"Overboard? Me? Never," Marie said as she found a place to set the goodies she'd brought. "Ah would never try to bribe my friend into ignoring the fact that Ah disappeared off the face of the planet with barely a bye your leave." She laughed as she hugged Amanda. "Ok, so Ah would totally do that."
Amanda hugged her back tightly, careful to keep her face away from Marie's skin. "As someone who's done their own disappearing act this year, you're completely forgiven," she told Marie as she pulled back. "Especially since we knew where you were. How's Short 'n' Growly doing?"
"A little less on the growly side. Canada always suits him. Being around Heather and Mac...and able to go off in the wildnerness as he needs..." Marie said as she sat on the edge of the couch. "It's a good fit for him there." What she didn't say was that she'd realized it wasn't a good fit for her. "So catch me up on what Ah've missed."
"Fuck, I'm not even sure where to start... You've got the team files, so I won't worry about that stuff. Um... Remy's got the CIA after him again, Mark and Jean-Phillipe had a thing that lasted all of five minutes, Jubes has been getting herself trolleyed every week... you know, the normal stuff." Amanda unhooked a beer from the six pack and passed it over to Marie before taking one for herself. Unscrewing the cap, she shrugged. "Better you ask someone at the school for the mansion gossip, tho' - I'm not really in the loop."
"Ah'm sure it's same old, just like here," Marie said, helping herself to a slice of pizza. "Honestly, Ah wonder if it's almost better not to really know the gossip."
"After the way the kids have been at each other hammer and tongs on the journals? 'S best to keep your nose out, in case someone bloodies it up for you," Amanda replied with a hint of wryness as she reached for her own piece. "So, Canada? How was it?"
"Good. Just...well, Ah think Ah need to stop using it as an escape. Ever since...well, Ah've been running away for a long time and every time Ah tell my self Ah've stopped running is about the time Ah get up and run again," the brunette said, turning her head to glance out the window.
"Running's a hard habit to break." Amanda lay down her pizza slice, half-turning on the couch to face her friend more. "But yeah, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and face things." She thought of Manuel, and the talk they'd had after the fight with Jennie on the journals. "Especially if it's something that's important to you."
"Yeah, Ah know. Doesn't mean Ah have to like it," Marie said, thinking of a talk of her own that still hadn't happened. "Anyways, at least Ah kinda run back and forth between the same two places now. That counts as a little consistency, right?" she joked weakly.
"You've got family up there. That makes a difference," Amanda pointed out with a smile. "Like me and Rom - London's always gunna be the place I go to when I need help, even if the bloody place decided to snack on me."
"Ah'd say it did that because you're so sweet, but then, well, you'd know Ah was lying," Marie said, happy for a slight change of subject.
Amanda wrinkled her nose. "Flattery'll get you everywhere, mate."
