Kevin hands in his resignation, so to speak.

After having booked his plane ticket online Kevin got up and headed off for a preemptive goodbye. Nathan was his boss so forewarning was pretty much key here. Sure, Nathan was more than a boss to the teenager but to be honest if he wasn't also Kevin's boss he likely would've gotten a letter like everyone else was going to get with two notable exceptions. Having already been in the Elpis office it made tracking Nathan down quicker and easier. When the telepath wasn't at his desk Kevin headed into the kitchen. It was either food or nap time that pried Nathan from yelling at people in foreign languages on the phone. There weren't other options, were there?

Nap time, but not his. Nathan emerged from Rachel's room, and upon spotting Kevin, placed a finger to his lips as he closed the door quietly behind him. "Just got her to sleep," he said. "She's been a little wired the last couple of days."

Luckily for Nathan Kevin was quiet anyway so he just nodded at the gesture. "She rearranged my desk yesterday," he told him, voice dipping more quietly than usual so it was about the volume of most people's whispers though it wasn't one for him. "Then she tried to rearrange me with it. Something about being manhandled by a three year old's just wrong." Kevin pouted a little.

"I see I may have to have a chat with her. She's only supposed to be traumatizing people in the cute way," Nathan said dryly, sitting down on the couch and shifting toys aside. "So. To what do I owe the visit to this side of the house?"

"She was really adorable while she was traumatizing me," he offered up in a questioning tone. Kevin perched on the arm of a chair before realizing that was rude and sliding down onto the seat of it properly. Moira was around and he didn't want to risk earning mom-wrath, even if she wasn't his mother. "Ah'm leaving. The ticket is for real late Sunday night and Doctor Samson talked to the professor and all the necessary people about me leaving the school as my keeping place. Ah'm going out to California to the west coast annex, which Ah guess means Ah'm handing in my resignation more or less unless you've got Elpis stuff Ah can do from there for you." Rip the bandaid off, it was the easiest way of getting through it, right?

Nathan was silent for a moment, but eventually, an oddly reflective smile tugged at his lips. "It's probably not a bad thing," he said. "You'll like California. And getting a little distance from... all of this." He waved rather vaguely. It could have meant the boathouse, the mansion, or the East Coast as a whole.

Kevin nodded. "Ah liked San Diego when we went there." It was his attempt to be positive. He'd promised Doctor Samson he would try to think of this as a step forward so he was. "Maybe all that heat will defrost my brain, get some things working better in there." He even prodded at his temple. Kevin then grew much more serious. "But thank you. You've done a lot for me and Ah don't thank people much better than Ah say goodbye to 'em. You helped me when Ah was arrested and you gave me a job and kept me here when Ah was determined to leave because of my powers going crazy and all...so...just...thanks."

"You're welcome," Nathan said quietly. "Just promise me you'll try and make the most of California." The smile returned. "Look at it as a fresh start. Leave all your baggage here...."

"Yeah, that's what Doctor Samson asked me to try to do, too." Kevin shrugged. "Ah told him Ah'd try so Ah'll tell you the same, 'cause it's the best Ah can do without lying and Ah'd rather not lie to you."

"It's all we can do, really. Try." Nathan tilted his head slightly. "There's no reason you can't telecommute. A little. If you want." His mouth twitched. "At least until you figure out if there's something out there, job-wise, you'd prefer to be doing. Until then the income might be welcome, no?"

Kevin nodded. "Yeah, Ah'd like that actually. It'd be kinda nice to not feel like Ah'm starting over totally, y'know?" Besides, he liked Nathan and it would give him a reason to keep in touch with the man. It would also likely keep him in touch with people in the office he was fond of, like Jane who he'd developed a bratty sort of sibling relationship with. The kind of bratty siblings who picked on Nathan behind his back every time he turned it, actually.

"Well. Then that's what we'll do."
