After Kyle's encounter with Jay, Catseye, smelling the blood, visits to make sure Kyle is alright. They discuss Jay and Catseye's acting career.
Because she'd had the concept of privacy finally ground into her head, Catseye knocked on the door to Kyle's room instead of just entering unannounced. She was even in girlform so she could speak to him. "WarmSnugglyFriend?" she called out quietly, "can Catseye come in? Catseye smells that WarmSnugglyFriend is hurt!"
If it had been anyone else besides Forge, or maybe Marius or
Jennie, Kyle'd have told them to stuff it. But it was Catseye and she
was good company even when he was healing, and she'd understand why he
was sitting on his bed with a laptop and a bowl of raw salmon and
using his toes to scroll down on the website he'd been browsing.
"It's open, you can come in."
He was sitting cross-legged on his bed, not sprawled out like he'd
normally be, with bandages on both arms and shoulders, front and back,
and no shirt. From the pile of bandages mostly in his wastebasket, it
was obvious he'd had to change them at least once. On a folding
traytable he had the bowl, half empty of fish, and a bottle of water,
and a closed pill bottle with his name on it in Doctor Grey's
handwriting. "It's... about as bad as it looks."
Catseye nearly gagged at the smell of the bandages in the wastebasket but they didn't deter her from launching herself at Kyle, only barely stopping herself from hugging him when she realized it would probably hurt him. Instead, she petted the non-bandaged bits of him like his head and neck and his hands and knees. "Oh! Oh WarmSnugglyFriend! The smell was bad but this looks veryvery bad just like WarmSnugglyFriend says! How did WarmSnugglyFriend hurt himself so bad? Who did this to WarmSnugglyFriend?" He still had the faintest whiff of another person's scent on him, but Catseye didn't sniff too liberally, assuming he would tell her.

"It was... kind of an accident." Even if Jay had gone psycho, Kyle
wasn't sure that it was entirely Jay's fault, and until he knew if it
was Jay himself, or something that had happened to Jay because of the
kidnapping, he didn't want to blame the guy exactly. "I got into an
arguement with Jay and his wings went all stabbity, but I'm not sure
he really meant to do it." But at the same time, he also didn't want
Catseye not to be warned. "It'll heal up in a day or two, I just
gotta keep it covered until then, since it's kinda gross."
Catseye absorbed this information silently, twitching tail the only indication that she was upset. "AngryBirdBoy is veryveryangry," she said finally, choosing her words carefully. "He is angry with Catseye and doesn't want to be Catseye's friend anymore, and Catseye almost got hurt by sharp stabbity wings too. Catseye does not think he really meant to do it," she agreed, snuggling into Kyle's side, "but he is angry and not thinking like BirdBoy and sad and that makes the wings hurt. Catseye does not think WarmSnugglyFriend is gross even if he is hurt," she smiled.
"Yeah, try to tell me that without making the "I can smell that, can't
you?" face at the trashcan and I'll believe I'm not gross." Kyle
said, almost cracking a smile. "I'm pretty sure whatever got done to
Jay is what's making him so angry. I mean, he had a temper before but
not... " Not like Kyle's own temper. Not like that under-the-skin
anger that boiled up every time he got into a fight, that he had to
swallow and digest and use instead of trying to struggle against it.
"Not like that."
Giggling, Catseye butted Kyle's cheek affectionately with the top of her head. "Maybe a little gross, but still Catseye's WarmSnugglyFriend." She basked in the comfort of being with her friend for a few more moments before frowning. "Do you think AngryBirdBoy will get better? Catseye wants to help him but he got angry and now Catseye does not know if he wants to get better or if anyone can help."
"I don't think he's happy like he is, and I think he'll want to get
better, but 'better' might not be the same Jay that we had before he
was... well, blue." The blue was almost weirder than the metal wings.
Not quite though, considering the blue skin hadn't put puncture
wounds in Kyle's shoulders and the wings had. "I think he's gonna
have to deal with not being the same guy he was though, and that's
pretty hard to do. It took me a crazy long time to deal, and mine
wasn't forced on me."
The catgirl thought this over, poking at a piece of Kyle's salmon. "Catseye does not have to have the same BirdBoy. Catseye just wants BirdBoy to be happy and friendly, so Catseye will wait the crazy long time if BirdBoy needs time and still be BirdBoy's friend if he wants Catseye to be his friend. Besides, Catseye likes blue." She licked at the claw that had poked the salmon, testing it out. "Can Catseye have?" she asked with a gesture towards the bowl. "Catseye misses BirdBoy's feathers, but Catseye will not tell BirdBoy that because BirdBoy should not be sad about not being the same."
Kyle nudged the bowl towards Catseye with a nod. He was just snacking
anyway, having already eaten more-than-a-meal's worth of food to help
with the healing. "He's gonna be sad anyway, and probably for a
while. It's Jay, he's good at being emo, and he was emo about having
the wings for a while." Kyle wasn't exactly happy with Jay right now,
due to the bleeding and the pain and the holes in his shoulders, but
it would pass. He couldn't call it entirely Jay's fault. "I think
he's gonna be more bummed about his voice, and I'm not sure how to
help with that." Nor was he certain if Jay even would accept help.
Taking a piece of salmon with her claw, Catseye petted Kyle's bandages carefully. "Catseye is sorry AngryBirdBoy hurt WarmSnugglyFriend. Catseye wishes she could help with BirdBoy's voice too. But Catseye doesn't know how or even if BirdBoy will let anyone help." It was hard to admit that she didn't know what to do for Jay, but Catseye had had some time to get used to it. It still hurt, but less than before. "Did WarmSnugglyFriend hear that Catseye is going to pretend to act in the play?"
"No..." Kyle eyed Catseye suspiciously. "I know Yvette is, but
nobody told me you are. Dude, that's very cool. What are you playing?"
At this rate he was going to be nerding out about Shakespeare for all
of his friends, and not just one or two. "And eh, I'll heal. Doc Grey
said as long as I don't go poking at it, I'll be okay in a day or two.
It's just really annoying right now. " And itchy, but that was normal
for healing.
Catseye rubbed at Kyle's bandages with the pads of her fingertips, thinking the reason he was annoyed was due to the itchiness, having encountered injured friends before. "No poking," she assured him. "Why does WarmSnugglyFriend say 'what are you playing'?" she asked suspiciously. "Does WarmSnugglyFriend think Catseye cannot play a 'who'?"
Kyle snorted loudly, and then grimaced as it pulled on his bandages
and made the wounds sting. "No, it's like, a general what. Whatcha
eating, whatcha doing, sort of thing. And if you guys are doing
Midsummer's you could be playing a what or a who, I dunno, I wasn't
really thinking about it. But I'm sorry anyway, if it made you think I
felt like you couldn't play a person." God knew he had issues of his
own that way, for similar reasons that Catseye would.
She snuggled against his side, still rubbing at the bandages, popping a piece of salmon into her mouth with her tail. The catgirl had been mostly teasing, but it was nice to hear Kyle say he was sorry anyway. "Catseye is pretending to act like Snug the joiner who plays the lion!" she answered excitedly. "Catseye has the best roar of all the students!" Without a warning she proceeded to demonstrate said roar, which wasn't a true animal's roar like the ones she could produce as BigCat, but was extremely realistic, and loud and rich enough to make the bowl of salmon jump on the traytable.
In addition to jumping salmon, the roar caused a meow-and-clatter from
the far side of the room as Shamu Jr made a mad dash for
anywhere-but-the-roaring-place, and managed to crash himself into
Kyle's laundry basket. If Kyle could've moved his arms comfortably,
he would've covered his face with his hands before laughing, but since
he couldn't, he just looked at the laundry basket plus one cat and
laughed, shaking his head. "I think Shamu would agree, that's pretty
impressive."
Because she'd had the concept of privacy finally ground into her head, Catseye knocked on the door to Kyle's room instead of just entering unannounced.
