Cammie stops by to chat with Kurt about Monet. Then takes a bit of a lecture about yesterday's journal events willingly.
Once you invited her in, she’d head back whenever she wanted. Often with no advanced warning. Cammie had now learned her way around – at least to those places she frequented – so she made her way to Kurt’s suite with ease. One knock was all the warning she gave before opening the door.
“If you’re doing anything, now’s the time to put your pants back on,” she said cheerfully.
"You would have had more trouble getting in if we were", he called back, emerging (fully-clothed) from the bedroom. "The lock would have needed picking, for one. Hello, Cammie."
“Unless you got a chain on it, I can pick it,” she said, walking in and shutting the door behind her. “And a chain won’t even stop most thieves. I think they just sell them to make people feel comfortable,” she said, thinking about it.
"From what I hear it is a deterrent", he said with a shrug. "The casual thief will choose a house with less security, if the choice is there."
She laughed, “I’m the weird one. The more stuff you have the more I feel I just have to get in there. Learned a lot, anyway.” She had learned a lot from it. Every system had a way you could get around it if you were really bent on doing it.
"That just means you enjoy challenges", he said easily. "Which is never a bad thing."
“Yeah. I guess. Funny story is most people with all those extra locks don’t have anything worth stealing. But it’s fun in its own right so it’s its own reward or something,” Cammie said with a shrug, working her way to the couch.
"There is always that." He wandered in the direction of the kitchen. "Would you like a drink? Warm or cold, I have both."
She plopped down on the couch, “I suppose. I mean, wet things are good to drink. But yeah, thought I’d come over and talk to you, since you’re all cool like that.”
"I am glad to hear you think so", was the half-solemn response. "Was this a talk about anything in particular, or just because you were bored?"
“A little bit of both. I mean, I get bored way to easily,” Cammie said, blowing some stray hair out of her face. “The first might be kinda insulting though. So fair warning.”
"As long as you are not informing me that my entire relationship is something no one wants to know about, I promise not to throw you out", he offered.
“Oh, no, you can tell people you’re dating. Hell, you guys can make out in the hallways for all I care,” she said settling in. “I just want to tell you I think she’s a shallow jerk.”
"She can be that way sometimes", Kurt admitted freely. "She really means no harm by it, though. It is just a matter of not realizing."
“Well, even though I’m not normally a fan of the ‘change your mate’ thing, you’re going to need to teach her HOW to realize. Does she know she basically told Yvette to go sleep with Fred because Fred’s indestructible? If nothing else, maybe you can explain what It’s like for some of us,” Cammie said. Then something struck her memory, “I kinda remember you said something like you have a sister who can’t be touched…? So you should be able to do it. If I do it, I’m afraid I’ll use my fists. And that never ends well.”
"Not for the same reason as Yvette, but yes, I do", he said quietly. "And she knows what she said, but she has difficulty sometimes with... why it is bad. As I think we all do sometimes, if not quite to that extreme." That was very slightly pointed.
“Yeah, everyone runs their mouth of sometimes,” Cammie said, not sheepish about it. “Just saying, is all.”
"Do you understand that you called Kyle less than human, and did it repeatedly after he had asked you to stop and become very upset?" Kurt persisted, going for a blunter approach. "I would ask you never to make the dog jokes to him again."
“I won’t. Look. I know I got carried away, but to be fair, I didn’t even call him a dog at first. A lot of people really don’t get it. I wasn’t trying to be mean. The way I see it it shouldn’t matter what people call you. Once you know what you are, but whatever. I didn’t mean for it to get that carried away,” Cammie said, shaking her head.
In the future, she decided, she’d stay away from that girl’s journal posts. As funny as she thought it was. “My sense of humor seems to be like a million miles off of everyone else’s.”
"There are things you could not have known, in Kyle's personal history", he told her. "Things that are not mine to discuss, but I was there, and trust me, he has good reason to dislike being called a dog. Just... remember that around here, people have secrets and you cannot always judge on face value."
“Yeah, Yvette told me a bit about that. If I had known I wouldn’t have. Really,” Cammie said, “In the future I’ll just avoid that girl’s posts. I was just messing around. Trust me when I say if I was serious I could’ve been a lot worse.”
"Illyana is... different", Kurt said frankly. "She has rather a special history herself, and very far from a normal childhood. You may want to apologize to Kyle."
“I will,” Cammie said looking up at the ceiling. “He gets one free punch. Which I don’t give to people.”
"He may not take it, but I am sure he will appreciate the offer."
She had already written up the email, but that wasn’t the point. If he didn’t take the offer there was always other things he could do.
“Well, someone should get to punch me in the head when I stop being stupid. It would save everyone a lot of pain.”
Kurt snorted. "I do not think many people would dare, without your permission."
“That’s because no one has a sense of adventure. ‘Sides, I’m learning how to hold that back,” Cammie said. With the most evil teacher ever, but that was a different story. “But I suppose I do have a pretty toxic personality.”
"I do not think that is true", he objected. "Just a little... well, the sense of humor you know about."
“Yeah, but that I’ve always known about,” she smiled sadly, “You should’ve heard some of the stuff my boyfriend and I used to call eachother. It was horrible.”
"It is different when that is done as a joke between the two of you", Kurt pointed out. "An agreement, almost."
“Yeah, well, I can’t let my insult skills get rusty,” she said dryly. “And I won’t call Kyle that again. I seriously didn’t know.”
"I know. If you had had all the facts and still said that... it would have been a great deal more serious."
“Yeah. Which makes me wonder, does that little Russian Magical Girl know?” Cammie asked.
"Not as far as I am aware. But from what I know of Illyana, her knowing would make no difference."
“Then she’s really a bitch. I’m just a jackass,” Cammie said. “There’s a different. And I also love being the pot calling the kettle black.”
