Kyle calls Laurie for more information on Yvette's condition. He doesn't get any good news at all.

Laurie slumped in an uncomfortable plastic chair, and she thought she might have slept at some stage in the last twenty-four hours but she couldn't remember it if she had. She'd refused the offer of a lift somewhere so that she could sleep. Whatever came, she wanted to be here for it, to know right away. Yvette wouldn't have left a friend who was injured, and so here she would stay.

It was a moment before she registered the music, the slight vibrations at her hip as her cellphone. The strains of 'All fall down' by One Republic continued to play for a moment before she managed to pull the phone from her pocket and flip it open.

"Kyle, what is it?" she asked, knowing from the tune who it was immediately.

"Tell me exactly what the hell is going on." Kyle didn't know what the hell time it was over there, and he didn't care. He'd seen Forge's post, and called the first person he could think of that wouldn't be in the middle of things. "I know shit blew up, I know Yvette's hurt."

"She needs a kidney transplant," Laurie said, the weight of the last few hours lacing her tone.

She slumped deeper into her chair and leaned her head against the wall, hand tapping out a measure of nervous energy on her thigh. She wished she knew more of what was going on so that she could tell the man on the other end of the phone. Truth was, she knew only what Jean had been able to tell them all in between meetings with other doctors.

"She needs a WHAT?" Kyle's voice cracked - it hadn't in years, and he didn't even notice. "Dude, can they even do that? I mean, she's...her mutation?" In his room, he wandered around in a slow circle. "Shit. Shit shit. Seriously, talk to me here. What's ... what are they saying?"

"Forge is going to try and make an inhibitor, something they can use to shut of her powers long enough to do the operation and for her to heal after," Laurie explained, glancing at the rack of magazines that had to be at least three months out of date. Hospital waiting rooms were never a hotbed of current news, and she was well aware that her mind was trying to find something else to settle on, something other then the words she was saying.

"But they've got to find a kidney to give her first, and well...it doesn't look good, Kyle. They're saying dialysis is out of the question long term, not with Yvette's power. There's just no way it could work, she just doesn't have enough control."

Absently, Kyle toyed with the hands-free earpiece of his phone before wedging behind his ear. He didn't much like the thing, but it was that or he was going to wreck his phone. "So she's on some kind of waiting list?" As soon as he was off the phone, he was marching down to the medlab and finding out if he could even donate at all. It was -something- anyway. "And they can't keep her inhibited for a long time. Forge's bitched long and hard about that, I know they can't. Aw, hell."

"They've got her on the waiting list, yes," Laurie replied, and by her tone she'd been unable to keep out of her voice she figured Kyle would know how likely it was to find a match. "I don't...Kyle, she might die."

How could she tell someone like Kyle, who adored Yvette like a little sister that he might have to say goodbye to her without ever getting to see her again? How could she do that when the idea of saying goodbye herself was so impossible, and she was right here. It just didn't seem right to say the words and yet it was something she knew they both needed to deal with, and so she said them anyway.

"Fuck -that-." Kyle had very nearly thrown the phone across the room. "They'll find something. Giant fucking brains, they'll find something." Forge was there. The doctors were there. They could call Doc Moira. Someone would find something.

"You call me as soon as you know something new. Because they're going to find something." There was no way he could stay on the phone much longer. Too much more and he'd break the damn thing, or he would throw it at something.

"I will," Laurie promised, wiping at her eyes and then standing. She couldn't sit and wait anymore, she needed to be moving and doing something. Maybe Dr. Marcel would have some work he could put her too. Anything was better then this constant nothing that she was doing right now. "I'm gonna go, I'll call you as soon as I know anything though, I promise."

"Yeah, I need to go hit things before I break something I might need later."
