Dani & Jay dance, then swap up with Kevin and Yvette.

"Oh man," Jay blew out under his breath and turned his back on the one person he didn't want to see at the prom. Suddenly his hand laced through Dani's and he pulled her towards the dance floor. "Can't believe Ah'm sayin' this but c'mon. Ya didn't get all prettied up to stand there," he said to her, pulling her amongst the others and turning her around. Of course, Dani was stronger and for a moment, they fought with who was going to lead and who was going to follow.

"Ah'm leadin'," he said in an annoyed tone, leaving out the just cause Ah'm gay don't mean Ah'm the back door all the time....

"I didn't say you were," Dani protested, but she did let him lead. She was a lousy dancer, at least in her eyes, and thought that if she led then it would be better but it wasn't worth arguing about. She did enjoy it though, if it was a line dance or something she was comfortable with. These random movement and hip hop things confused her. Thankfully, Jay had enough sense that this was a slow dance. "I thought I was the husband though and you were my wifey?" she joked.

"Yeah, cause everyone's gonna believe Ah'm straight and datin' you. Ah think Ah'd have a hard time with that, yanno, convincin' the majority though mah taste in straight guys mighta rubbed off." As much as he had wanted Kevin to come to the prom, now he didn't, especially not after his last visit. "They'd think Ah was on drugs if Ah started kissin' girls, though if you started kissin' girls, well--" he left it at that, not really interested in that mental visual.

"Stranger things have happened," she teased, but not only was she not into girls, that was apparently Clarice's thing, she knew Jay was not into her either. That was just fine, "You ain't ever considered a girl though? I'd be willing to let you try once if you were curious," and if not then that was fine too. No sense in forcing the boy if he didn't want to. "Might surprise you."

"Watchin' het don't do a thing for me Dani," Jay said. "Ah don't think doin' it would uh, do anythin' either." There was no way he was kissing Dani on the dance floor, surrounded by everyone. They'd think he lost his mind and Kevin, well, Kevin was there and he really didn't want to go overboard with that. It would just seem like he was rubbing it in Kevin's face and he wasn't into making the situation worse. Especially since he was still sore for Kevin.

"Ah hate this pinin'," he said after a long stretch of silence and his eyes flickered over Dani's shoulder, trying to avoid staring blatantly over someone who was not at all good for him. "Makes me feel like shit."

She shrugged, not at all put off by his lack of interest in 'het' as he put it. "And watching butt sex don't do a thing for me," she retorted, though really, she hadn't seen it. Still, she didn't get it. It just seemed so...wrong to her. Not sinful or bad, but just....not how nature intended. Then again, nature came up with the duck billed platypus. It was certainly natural, but she didn't quite get the intention.

Taking the lead and turning so that Jay couldn't see Kevin, Dani thought for a moment, "Ain't easy," she agreed, "Ain't no quick fix or easy answer either. 'Cept movin' on. Doing what your head knows is right when your heart don't agree. Guess that's why you gotta have friends at times like these," she responded, thinking of her relationship with Sheldon. She'd been thinking about it a lot recently, not so much about the end, but the beginning. And how good it had been.

"Yeah, yeah, move on, she says. Ah think it'd be a whole lot easier to move on if Ah had something to distract me. Gotta figure out how Ah can corner Yvette for a dance without havin' to talk to 'em." He didn't even like dancing. "You know what? When Ah don't see him, Ah'm fine but the second Ah lay eyes on him, he makes me mad and do dumb things. Just don't let me go over there. Maybe you could just... just go over there and talk to Yvette for me, get 'er to come over here."

He did have a point there. She'd been in New York, moving on from Sheldon in Oklahoma had been simple, "Well, Kevin's in California now," she pointed out, twirling as he moved her. "'Cept when he's here...alright, fine. You're an idiot, you know," but it was said fondly. She had said it to herself enough times. "I'll get Yvette for you when the song ends. So long as you ain't stupid while I'm gone."

"Ah ain't gonna be stupid," he promised. "Ah don't even wanna talk to him. Ah'm done with that." Dani knew what happened with his last encounter with Kevin. There was no interest for a repeat or even an ounce of drama, which was why when he let Dani go, he hung back, hiding behind his bangs and brushing his fingers off his jaw. "Ah'll wait over there," he nodded in the general direction. "Don't say anything stupid either," he told her. Jay had made her swear up and down that she wouldn't say a word about what happened and he held her to that promise.

Dani wasn't the type to say stupid things, not usually. She tried to think before speaking. Not dignifying his admonishments with a reply, she headed over to where Yvette was with Kevin without a word. "Kevin?" she said, as she approached. "Could I have this dance?" she asked. It would look better if she asked him as opposed to asking Yvette for Jay and making Kevin and Jay both look like an idiot.

Kevin had been threatening Yvette with doing the Time Warp to a completely unrelated song when Dani came up. Of course, he didn't actually know the Time Warp but that wasn't the point in the least. The point was the threat of it. An eyebrow quirked up at the request, but he didn't say no. Rather he deferred his look to Yvette, but she didn't seem much bothered by the proposition. "Yeah, course." Dani got a smile as he held a gloved hand out to her and promised Yvette he'd be right back. "With the Time Warp," he added in belatedly.

The day Dani was a threat to Yvette's date was the day that the world imploded. "Jay's over that way," she said to Yvette with a nod in his general direction and taking Kevin's hand. The new song was a faster one, which was good since it meant Kevin would be able to stay in his comfort zone.

"No Time Warp!" Yvette protested to Kevin, but she was giggling as she said it. "Thank you, Miss Dani," she continued, taking her leave. "To be having fun, yes?" She didn't wait for a reply, leaving Kevin and Dani to their dance. It was deftly done, she thought, ensuring Jay and Kevin didn't meet - something had happened since the last time Kevin had been there and it hadn't been pleasant, she could see that. She wasn't going to ask, however, since tonight was meant to be a good time. "Hello, Jay," she said to the blue-skinned mutant. "I am not having the partner. Would you like to be dancing with me?"

Jay pretended that he didn't know she was coming, even though every part of him was vibrantly aware of what was going on with his ex. He turned when he heard her voice, his smile uplifting the shadows that settled across his darker blue complextion. "Hey," he greeted. "Ah reckon Ah'd like that a lot." He smirked, gesturing for her to walk forth onto the dance floor.

"Who's the chump?" he joked. "No one Ah'm gonna have to beat up huh?"

"No-one you are needing to worry about," she told him, half-joking but with a note of seriousness. She didn't want anything spoiling tonight. "You are having the good time with Miss Dani, yes?"

He wouldn't ruin tonight for her, hell, he wouldn't even mention the name. He was trying to make light of it instead of ignoring it like most, or at least pretending to ignore it. "Yeah," he said. "She's tryin' to convince me that straight's the way to go. Imagine that huh? Me datin' girls? That'll be the day. What about you, having a good time?" he asked, swinging her lamely and nearly losing his grip on her hand. No one said he was perfect.

"Yes, very much so. It is good to be here, with my friends." She used the extra length of her fingers to make sure she didn't lose him entirely. "I cannot see you liking the girls. You are so very much the gay man, yes?"

"Yea that's right," he smiled, pleased that she affirmed what she'd always seen. He never thought she fully grasped him as a whole up until now and he thought to mention it but instead, let it slide. "You're gettin' old now huh? Soon you're gonna be drivin' and then everyone's gonna have to stay off the road. Thought about going for your test yet?" he figured she was coming of that age. "Ah mean, Ah'll give you lessons if you want."

"I have been having some lessons already with Catseye and the teachers. But I would like for you to be helping also," she replied. "And yes. I will be seventeen in August. That is the grown-up, yes?" Old enough to join the team, any way.

"Ah guess. Mean's Ah gotta put up with you lookin' at more than your homework," he teased. "Like clothes." Of course he didn't mean that but it was a good filler and she knew what he was saying.

"Oh yes. I will be, how you say? The fashion donkey?" she replied, with a slight eyeroll and a grin.

"See, now you're gettin' all lippy. Don't make me sick mah mama on you," he gestured over his shoulder to Dani. "She can be a real looker but damn if she don't have a nasty bite to 'er."

"That is how you are liking the friends who are girls, Jay. When they are being the strong and, how you say, lippy?" Yvette was unapologetic. "But it is good that you are having Miss Dani. She is helping you to be happy, I am thinking."

"Helpin' yeah. Ah think Kev's doin' the same for you too," he said without contempt and his easy lopsided smile reassured her that he good with that. "Maybe you should go save him. Ah only wanted you to mahself for a few an' Ah reckon that there's a bit too many people round him." He nodded in their direction, letting Yvette go but as an afterthought, leaned over and kissed her cheek. It was a just a peck but it stung and when he pulled away, his lips were red like a vampire after a drink. Jay drew them in a thin red line and his cheek bones lifted to the smile in his eyes and his unspoken words. It'll heal, he winked.
