Takes place later this evening, and Jamie would like the following message delivered to all Valentine's Day naysayers: "Ppthbthbthhtpththth." He's so articulate.

Jamie finished his last bite of steak and sat back, remembering for once--it must have been the occasion--to wipe his mouth with his napkin. The day had gone even better than he'd hoped--weather was absolutely perfect, even a little warmer than predicted, and just . . . the whole . . . there weren't really any words for it, really. He looked over at Kitty and couldn't help smiling, which was, now that he thought about it, not all that unusual, she always made him smile . . . but particularly tonight. He thought about the package in the pocket of his sport coat and the smile turned into a grin.

With a happy sigh, Kitty finished her own dinner. "This has been fantstic, Jamie," she said, looking up and catching sight of his grin. "You're amazing."

"I had some great inspiration." He reached over to take her hand. "So . . . one more surprise before you make me look competent on the dance floor?"

Kitty grinned, looking curious. "Of course. What is it?"

He fished the package out of his pocket, but didn't quite give it to her yet. "Remember that book I gave you for Christmas, it had those anonymous poems in it?"

"Oh yes. They were lovely - all of the poems were lovely."

"Well, I kinda felt bad those ones didn't have the author credit on 'em, so I went and tracked the guy down, and it turns out he lives pretty close, so I went and asked him if it was okay if I used his name in, sort of a second edition, I guess." Jamie smiled. "And he didn't want to, right at first, but I told him it was a present for the most incredible girl in the world, and he said, oh, well then, sure, go right ahead." He handed her the package. "And it turned out he had a few new poems he'd just written, and he let me use those too, if I'd tell him what you thought of them."

Kitty's brow furrowed slightly in confusion. "I thought no one knew who wrote anonymous stuff?" she asked as she carefully undid the wrapping. "How on earth did you track the author down?"

"Oh, well, it wasn't really that tough. Like I said, he lives pretty close."

Kitty opened the book to the table of contents, glancing down, and suddenly drew in a breath. "Oh... Jamie... wow." She looked up, eyes shining. "I... I didn't... oh wow."

"Sorry I didn't put my name in the first one, I just . . . I guess I didn't want you to feel like you had to like them just because I wrote them."

"Jamie... oh wow... I never knew. They're amazing!"

"They're okay. I'm no Shakespeare, but I, um . . ." He smiled. "Like I said before . . . great inspiration."

Leaning over, Kitty kissed him. "They're amazing. You're amazing. I say it all the time, I know, but it's true. I love you, so much."

"Mmm. Saying it all the time is good, what with me never getting tired of hearing it. Or saying it back. I love you. There will probably even be more poetry later, I've got this disk hidden in my room . . ." The band, warming up quietly on the other side of the room, segued into something slow. "Want to go risk getting your feet stepped on?"

She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him for a second, then stood. "Come on, you'll do wonderfuly."

"Well, we've got all evening, so I'll get plenty of practice anyway." He grinned and offered his hand.

Taking his hand, Kitty grinned. "Come on. I'll teach you a box step - very easy, and you easily have the rhythm for it."

"Sounds like fun."
