Jay & Catseye
Aug. 9th, 2009 12:31 pmCatseye asks Jay about joining the team, but he diverts her to other things on her mind.
Tail lashing thoughtfully, Catseye crouched on the branch of a tree in the woods, overseeing the herd of deer with her unblinking purple eyes. Lex had been hunting again, she noted by the conspicuous absense of one of the younger bucks. Or maybe Jean-Paul. Or Nick? Her herd was getting a little thin, she thought wryly. There were many hunters at the mansion now. The sound of wings had her turning her head skyward leisurely, and she let out a happy 'mrrt!' when she spotted Jay, hoping her noise would cause him to detour and chat.
He caught it and looped around, landing directly in the middle of the herd, causing them to flee, scatter in all directions and resisted taking one down with his wings. Instead, he walked over to the tree and looked up at Catseye, squinting in the sunlight. "What's up?" he asked conversationally.
Catseye shifted into girlform and swung her legs from the treebranch idly. "Not much is up. Catseye just wanted to say hi to Jay. Is Jay an X-Man now?"
He noticed she wasn't calling him shiney whatever thing or bird boy and wondered if that had to do with anything from her recent posts. "No, Ah ain't. Ah'm just a trainee."
"Catseye is thinking about being a trainee too," she told him thoughtfully, watching the deer that he'd sent running. "Is it hard?"
"Ah dunno," he admitted honestly. "It ain't fun, Ah know that much." He hadn't really started training yet, waiting for Garrison to come back, though he suspected Scott would tell him to go to the DR sooner or later. "Why do you wanna be on the team?" he asked.
"To help people," she answered with a grin. "To help our friends so they don't get hurt the way Mister Beaubier and Mister Nathan are always getting hurt, and to stop bad people from hurting humans." She left his comment about the team not being fun alone- she knew it wasn't supposed to be fun, that it was serious business. "How come Jay wants to be an X-Man?"
That seemed to be everyone's question lately and he shook his head. "Ah don't wanna talk about it, okay Cats? Why don't you come down huh?"
"Okay, Catseye understands if it is private," she replied goodnaturedly, shifting to catform so she could climb down and shifting back into girlform when she had landed on the ground in front of Jay. "What does Jay want to talk about?"
"Ah dunno," he said and slipped his hands into his jeans. "You maybe?" He was sick of talking about the team with other people and wanted to avoid the whole subject.
The catgirl had absolutely no problem discussing this topic. "Catseye got her learner's permit for driving! And Catseye had a birthday and it was very fun even though Catseye was not at the mansion with her friends. Catseye got to meet her OtherBrother! He is very nice. He is named Harrison. And Catseye is supposed to be in the woods to think about Nick but instead Catseye was thinking about deer."
"Huh? What? Nick?" Jay asked. He'd meant to apologize about her birthday but instead, was drawn to this because of her tone.
"Nick is not a what, Nick is a who," she corrected with a grin, which quickly faded. "Nick wants to be a couple with Catseye but Catseye does not know if she wants to be a couple with Nick. What is being a couple like?" she inquired, settling herself against a tree trunk.
"Oh well, uh, whaddya mean what's it like?" he asked, unsure how much she really knew. To Jay, Catseye was still the young girl, naive and sleeping in his bed in her cat form. The question threw him a little and he took a few paces back until he crouched down, stretching his wings low.
"Monet says sex is fun," Catseye pointed out. "But Monet said Catseye cannot do that when she is in high school and she says couples in high school can only hold hands and kiss and Catseye wants to know if being a couple is fun and mostly Catseye wants to know how exactly it is different from being friends? Just because of holding hands and kissing?" She knew now that those weren't things you did with friends. But she'd done them, and they didn't really seem all that fun, really.
Jay's palm hit his forehead and rubbed the place between his eyes. "Cats.." he started and shook his head. Where did he start? "Don't listen to Monet. She dunno what she's talking about cause she's datin' Kurt. That's like a whole different ball game." The image of those two together still scrambled his brain.
The purple-haired girl frowned at her friend. "Catseye does not understand. Do not listen to Monet about only holding hands and kissing? Is Jay saying Monet is wrong about what couples do?"
"What?" he shook his head. "No, no, Ah mean, yes, sorta. Just do whatever you feel. You gotta be attracted to him Cats. He's yer first guy right?"
"First guy for what?" she asked, cocking her head at Jay. "To be friends with? No! To be a couple with? No, because Catseye is not a couple with him, and Catseye does not know if she wants to be because she does not understand what being a couple really is! Catseye does not know if she is attracted to him."
"Well that's what you gotta figure out first. And then you figure out if you wanna be around him alot cause that's what couples do. If you like him, it just falls into place yanno?" Jay 's wings folded up which allowed him to sit, legs bent and fingers linked together.
"But Catseye likes being around her friends a lot too. That is why Catseye does not understand!" she exclaimed, exasperated by the concept she couldn't grasp. "Catseye does not know if she likes Nick more than her other friends! How is Catseye supposed to know?"
"Ah dunno. Spend some time with him," came his unsure answer. "See if he does it for ya. Makes yer blood boil. Look, there's a difference between yer friends and this guy or whatever guy you pick." He couldn't believe he was about to say this. "If he gets you all wirey, hot and bothered and you really wanna know what he's thinkin', like you like his personality - somethin' like that - then you might be attracted to him. It's sorta like... you wanna get inside his head, just to see what makes him tick. It's about passion--" he explained but didn't know if any of this was sinking in.
She began sharpening her claws on the tree trunk she was leaning against. "Passion?" She didn't understand passion. "That is the word for being hot and bothered and wanting to know what someone is thinking?" She liked Jay's descriptions of how she was supposed to feel. They were very descriptive and easy to grasp, unlike the whole passion or couples words. "Catseye thinks it is a good idea to find out if Nick makes her wirey and if she wants to get inside Nick's head. And if Catseye wants to get inside his head that means she wants to have sex with him?"
"What? No!" Jay cringed and ran a hand over his face, trying to get the image of Nick and Catseye out of his head. "Why're you askin' me? Ah'm King of failed relationships."
Frustrated, she kneaded her claws more vigourously on the tree. "Catseye does not know! Because Jay is Catseye's friend and Catseye wants to talk to her friend because she does not understand about couples and passion and attraction." She turned a smirk on him. "Maybe because Jay is the king of failed relationships. That way Catseye can learn what not to do?" Giggling, she leaned over and shoved his shoulder. "Or because even though Jay's relationships fail, he at least has had lots so he has lots of experience?"
"Just start with figurin' out if you like him, okay? Worry about sex later," he said, shoving her back. "Ain't he like, too young for you anyways?"
This confused her even more. "Is he? Is it not allowed?" That would just solve all her problems about how she felt about being a couple with Nick, wouldn't it?
"Forget the rules. Sex happens when you're ready and you'll know it. You won't be askin' all these questions like if you like him or not. Remember me and Kyle?" The jerk, he wanted to say. "We had a lotta sex and it was cause we couldn't keep our paws off each other. Some thing, 'cept Ah liked Kyle alot."
"But Catseye has to ask, because Catseye does not understand and Catseye does not want to do anything wrong and make anyone upset," she told him, sounding distressed. "Especially because Catseye does not know what sex means."
"Oh c'mon Cats, you're like what, 20? That's way too old not to know about sex. You ain't sure about Nick so Ah don't think yer gonna be havin' sex anytime soon. You just gotta figure if you like him first. Yanno? Then if you want, spend more time with him, see what comes of that. Sex comes in later." Why was he having this conversation? Though if he had to be honest with himself, Forge hadn't dated many people, Kyle - well, he didn't wna tot think about kyle - and Marius were all bad choices for asking about sex. "Maybe you should talk to a girl about this. Yanno? Like someone who's got the same mechanics as you."
Catseye stuck her tongue out at Jay. "Catseye was a cat until she was fifteen and then everyone thought Catseye was too much of a baby to know about sex." Well, she didn't know if they thought of her as a baby, but they didn't think she was mature enough to know about sex, that was for sure. "And Jay has sex with boys and Nick is a boy so doesn't that mean Jay has the same mechanics as Catseye then?"
"Guys," he corrected. "Guys. Ah don't have sex with boys." This was getting harder and harder to explain. "Ah don't have all yer girly bits so you'd be better to talk to someone like.. uh.. maybe Amanda. Or uh, Jean, yanno? Jean can explain all that stuff, Ah reckon, get it to make sense for ya." Someone who didn't use protection was the last person to be giving advice.
"Catseye doesn't think she wants to talk to someone old," she answered, embarrassed. Her face was getting all hot. She didn't really know what sex was but she knew it was something she didn't want to talk to an adult about. "Catseye thinks it is too private. But maybe Catseye will talk to a friend who is a girl. Jay is a very good person to talk to, though," she assured him with another shove. "It makes sense more now, about wanting to get in someone's head and be wired."
He stood up, brushed his jeans off and extended a hand to her. "C'mon, lets go walk or somethin'." Because talking about sex with Cats was a flashing neon sign that spelled just...no.
