Cam and Yvette meet for dinner. It may or may not be a date.
Cameron had showered off the salt water and in all had cleaned up very well for his...date? The status of his current outing was still a matter of debate amongst his friends, whom waffled between it being a date and it being a friend-date. He didn't much care either way and would have to tell Yvette that he was spoken for back home- but what if she thought it was a date. If she did, maybe he'd be hurting her, but when was the best time to bring up Virgina (his girlfriend from back home)?
As he paced the boardwalk in khaki shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, he was too deep in thought to notice a familiar figure approaching.
Yvette was wearing a sundress over her usual bodysuit, something she'd borrowed from Angel since she didn't really have anything suitable. On Angel it was almost indecently short (it was designed to be worn over a bathing suit or bikini) but on Yvette it fell to mid-thigh, the skirt swirling softly in the breeze off the water. There was a flower in her hair - not a real one, since that would have been shredded in minutes, but the metal one Kevin had made for her birthday and which she'd turned into a hairclip of stainless steel. She smiled as she saw Cam, eyes glowing to match. "I like the shirt," she said. "It is very...cheerful looking."
Spinning around at her first word, Cam grinned, ear-to-ear, all thoughts of Virgina erased from his mind. "Wow, Yvette, you look great," he said, taking a look over her ensemble. Of course she still had the bodysuit on, but that was part of her charm. His eyes flickered up to the flower in his hair, "Oh, wow, that's really intricate."
"Thank you," she said, eyes glowing brighter in her version of a pleased blush. "My friend Kevin, he made it for my friend Catseye to give to me for my birthday. He is very clever with these things. He is the sculptor, you see." She looked up at him. "You look very nice also."
Straightening out his collar, Cameron tried to keep from blushing slightly himself. Running a hand through his hair he tried to remember when she'd said when her birthday was. When it didn't come to mind, he conceded himself to having to ask, "Um, when is your birthday again?"
"Two weeks ago," she replied, with a small, one-sided shrug. Cam forgetting her birthday wasn't a big deal, since they'd been so bad about contacting each other lately. "I am turning seventeen." She grinned. "I am becoming the old lady, yes?"
"Gorgeous woman, is more like it," he quipped back with a wolfish grin. He blushed slightly, but hoped his pearly white teeth would keep that from being noticeable.
If Yvette had been able to blush, her face would have been scarlet. As it was, her eyes glowed brighter, almost neon-bright. "Thank you," she managed at last, not really sure what to say to that - it wasn't as if people flirted with her much. "So, dinner, yes? You are hungry?"
"Starving! And it's on me, me missing your birthday and all," he said. Before she could object he gestured down the boardwalk, "There's a place that has lobster down that way...wait, do you like lobster? You're not allergic, are you?"
"No, I am not allergic at all. Although, one of my teachers is calling me the Trouble Lobster?" She giggled and, daringly for her, slipped her arm through his. "Lobster is sounding very good indeed. Please to be showing me this place?"
Glad she wasn't going to die from eating dinner with him, he was struck with the urge to inquire. "Trouble lobster? What does the mean?" he asked, as they strolled down the boardwalk, his arm giving hers a reassuring squeeze- thankful he didn't have to be as careful with her, given that they were both nearly invulnerable
"Well, the teacher is Canadian, so it could be meaning anything - the Canadians have the very strange sense of humour," Yvette explained as they walked towards the restaurant. "But it is also because of the things that sometimes happen at the school. I was saying it had been the very busy year, yes? Let me be telling you about it while we are eating."

"...and then Johnny is making the caution sign, like there are on the roads? Only for the lizard boys falling from the ceiling." Yvette laughed at the memory.
Dinner had gone very well and they'd gone for another walk before Cam had walked her back to the beach house. Somewhere along the line it had seemed natural for them to hold hands, and she was relaxed enough that her fingers were only twice normal length. They'd talked most of the night, about her accident, their schools, Red X, his friends and family, their plans for the future... about everything, it seemed, catching up on lost time.
There had been one subject that Cameron had failed to bring up - Virgina. They'd been having such a good time that he didn't want to ruin it and it wasn't like this was going to be a serious romance...just a summer fling that would likely end when Yvette and her friends left. Pushing the thought to the back of his mind- again- Cam laughed with her and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "Your friends sound awesome - so does your school...even with the whole," he shrugged slightly, "you kinda getting blown up thing."
"Well, it was only being the once. And I promise not to be doing it again." Yvette paused as they reached the gates of the Keller family beach 'house'. "This is, how you say? The last stop?" she said reluctantly. She didn't really want things to end, but it was late.
Cam found himself about to do something stupid, but was trying to resist the urge. He tried to focus attention toward the house, "Wow, you could probably fit three or five of our time-shares in this place." Turning back to Yvette, they let a moment of silence pass between them. "Am I going to see you again tomorrow?"
"I would like that very much, yes," she replied. In the movies, this was the part where there was the goodnight kiss, but Yvette wasn't sure of what to do exactly. Should she try to kiss him? Would that make her too forward? She held loosely onto his hand, prolonging the moment and hoping he'd take the lead
Glad she wasn't telepathic, Cameron's mind was flashing with warning bells as he looked into her glowing blue eyes. 'What the hell are you doing?!' his mind screamed at him. His body seemed to move of its own will as he hesitantly darted forward to kiss her. Luckily, his brain kicked in at the last moment as he was able to drift left and place a kiss on her cheek. Leaning back, he smiled sheepishly, blush slightly tinting his cheeks. "I'll see you tomorrow, Yvette."
Okay, so it wasn't like the kiss from Kevin, but it was still a kiss, from someone who could touch her skin and not be hurt. With a brilliant smile, she nodded "Tomorrow, Cam."
