Amara and Tabitha get a little silly. And drag Lex along for the ride. Also, backdated like Whoa, because I am SLOW.
"We need ice cream," Tabitha decided after her fourth girly-beer. "It's been stupid hot, we need cold." She stood, and swayed in place for a few moments. "Kitchen has the best ice cream."
"Yes," Amara agreed with a very serious expression on her face. "Ice-cream. I saw some..." She trailed off, thinking very hard about this. "Something chocolate and something." She shrugged. "It is chocolate, who cares." She pushed herself up, also trying not to fall over.
The pair managed to brace against each other and make it out the door. Tabitha clung to Amara, trying to appear much more sober than she actually was. "I'm almost glad it's a school night. Maybe the kids will be in bed like they're supposed to be," she said hopefully.
Amara giggled at that, her arm wrapped tight around Tabby's waist. "Let's hope so... but I am sure they have seen a teacher or two drunk enough. At least we are not singing?"
Tabs suppressed her worries, shook her head. "With this whole New Mutants thing, I'd really hate to screw it up because I was slightly tipsy, going for an ice cream run." She was proud that she hadn't slurred a single word, she thought.
"Alright," Amara replied with a determined look on her face. "We will... pretend. We are not drunk. We can absolutely walk straight. Right?" She straightened up, squaring her shoulders and loosening her grip on Tabs' waist slightly.
Tabitha attempted to do the same, with limited sucess. "Okay, let's find some icecream."
"To the kitchen it is." Amara grinned a little, the two only tipsy blondes actually managing to make it there without falling over - or running into any students. Maybe there was a God after all. Amara made a beeline for the freezer, opening the door with a little more gusto than was really necessary.
"Oh look! It's still here!"
Tabitha crowded in next to her. "What about Rocky Road? There an of that in there?" She cackled gleefully as she spotted her target carton and pulled it out of the freezer. Two Pyrex bowls would do nicely, even if they were meant more for serving than eating.
The librarian scooped up a bowl for herself, then a bowl of Amara's ice cream before they gleefully attacked the cold treat at the kitchen table.
Lex walked into the kitchen, searching for his customary pear, and found two rather beautiful girls shoveling ice cream into huge glass bowls. "Uh oh, what happened to warrant such wanton indulgence?" he asked playfully, realizing that if something bad had happened he'd problem never hear the end of it.
"Not what, who," Tabitha corrected with a grin. "But after the eighth-ninth-seventh? Whatever drink, it just doesn't seem all that dramatic." She gasped and turned to Amara. "The perfect idea just occurred to me. Let's lake him."
Tipsy girls plus icecream? That never did bode well, Lex. Amara perked up a little when he arrived, flashing him a cheery smile before being distracted by Tabitha's idea. "You think?" She giggled at the thought. "I don't know, he's very... big. Do you think we'd be able to carry him?"
Lex realized they were intoxicated only after they began giggling. I don't like the sound of this, he thought, more than a little curious. "Well, if you ask me, I might go willingly?" He smiled as he spoke, keeping a face of good humor in hopes of coaxing out whatever devious plans they were concocting.
"Oh not you!" Amara sounded positively horrified at the thought. "No, you are too nice to lake. We are speaking of Senhor de la Rocha." When she mentioned Manuel her voice got briefly and melodramatically dark.
Tabitha stared silently at Amara for a solid five seconds before she broke into snorts of laughter. "Oh, do it again. That fit him _perfectly_.". Another random thought brought her attention back to the man in the room. "I should know who you are. I should." She bit her bottom lip in concentration as she struggled to remember.
Lex switched from one woman to the other, he didn't know who to address, or how, so he decided it would be rude to not introduce himself. "I'm lex, a new addition to the mansion, and recruit for the X-Men." He made a flourishing bow, to continue the comedic mood, "and you are?"
"He just needs a cape to go with it," Amara replied to Tabitha with a giggle of her own. "And this, Lex, is Miss Tabitha Smith." She grinned. "She's the liberian. And an X-Man. X-Woman? I don't know."
Tabitha brightened. "I remember! You threw the Hawaii thing!" Her face darkened. "Laking really is better than using him for powers practice. He would have to live with it."
"Yes, that was me." He looked at her for a moment, he didn't think he remembered seeing her there. Then he realized that even if she was he probably wouldn't have noticed. Such is the way of those in the doghouse. "So the plan is to lake Manuel... Just how do you intend to do that?"
"Well," Amara said with a little frown on her face. "We should probably wait and do it when Valentia is at classes or whatever. And it would help if he was outside already."
"Do you and he still do the horse-thing?" Tabs asked, chin in and as she smooshed ice cream around her bowl. "I could wait in ambush close to the lake, make you look totally innocent."
Lex tried very hard to keep himself from laughing, if the librarian couldn't remember horse back riding then she was most assuredly too drunk to execute any such plan. He looked between her and Amara and tried to figure out just how serious they were, "So what has Manuel done this time? Which also brings up the question, how are you going to trick him if he can read your thoughts?"
"Yes, we still do," she said, looking thoughtful for a brief moment. "It's preemptive," Amara said in reply to Lex, scooping up a mouthful of ice-cream. "And he reads emotions, not thoughts. He'd probably still get suspicious though." Damn you and being... sensible, Lex.
"He's always suspicious," Tabitha muttered into her ice cream. "Thinks *everything* has a motive behind it. Why should this be any different? Except, you know, there actually is a motive."
"Ah, well it would be easier if he could only read emotions because, planning it preemptively, you can make it a purely academic incident and he won't be able to determine whether or not you were involved. At least, not by using his powers." Lex imagined Manuel being thrown from his horse and into the lake. If they actually went through with it he'd have to make sure he found a damn good place to watch from. Hell, he might even record it.
"Just because he has motives behind everything he does," Amara said heatedly, before stopping and taking a deep breath. No, it wasn't worth getting upset about. Honestly. "Even if they're good motives, it doesn't excuse being an ---" Amara cut herself off again, taking another deep breath.
"Hey, more ice cream, less introspection." Tabs poked Amara in the leg with a bare foot. "Also, more ideas on how to dunk the good senor." She licked her spoon thoughtfully.
At that moment Lex realized he was completely out of his depth. He'd talked to Jean-Paul about practicing his social skills and he decided their conversation, and plan, would make a perfect experiment. Looking through the cupboards he grabbed out another pyrex bowl and held it up, like an almsman. "I'm down with that."
"Yes! More ice-cream. Though it might run out soon, if we are not careful." Though that didn't necessarily mean they had to stop gorging themselves. Making cookie dough wasn't too difficult, even when inebriated. Amara hopped up to actually retrieve the ice-cream, digging through the freezer to see what she could find. "We could always stalk him. Just happen to show up when he was near the water and happen to push him in." Not that Amara was at all good at being stealthy.
Tabith tapped her spoon against her nose, leaving behind a smear of ice cream. "I still think the horse angle might work. You head down there and want to take a break near where I just happen to be getting ready to do some laps. Then I can just drag him in if neccessary."
"I don't know if that's a good idea. You might get in a lot of trouble if he breaks something on the way down, even if it's just his ego." He smiled, they seemed way too enthusiastic for him to crush their dreams, but at the same time dehorsing someone was not a good idea.
Amara's shoulders sagged at that, looking thoughtful once more. "And I suppose it is not very nice to do that to someone who is lame." Oh, the burden of having a soft heart and scruples. "It's nice to dream, I suppose?"
Tabitha sighed mournfully and lolled her head on the table. "Could you imagine the look on his _face_?" She cackled to herself.
Lex could easily imagine it and he felt a little bad for ruining their fun. However, he couldn't let them go through with it if it meant them getting in trouble. "Maybe we can find a way to lure him out there, without the horse?" he suggested, in hopes of continuing their lively conversation.
"Okay, okay!" Amara straightened up, waving her spoon around. "You all have promise. Promise. If anyone of us happens to be by the lake with the senhor, you have to push him in. No excuses." There was a pause. "Well, unless Valentia is with him."
Tabs held her spoon aloft, mimicking Amara. "I promise on the ice cream spoon."
"I'll do it, if only to see what happens," Lex laughed, hoping it was one of the girls who had to fulfill the promise.
"Done!" Amara announced triumphantly, before looking down at her ice-cream that had melted into soup once more and sighing a little. The curse of constantly radiating heat. Ice-cream never did stay frozen for long.
"We need ice cream," Tabitha decided after her fourth girly-beer. "It's been stupid hot, we need cold." She stood, and swayed in place for a few moments. "Kitchen has the best ice cream."
