Adrienne and Nico - Offerings
Oct. 22nd, 2009 09:01 pmFollowing her introduction, Nico visits a Frost in search of a job.
Nico walked down the halls, pleased that at least she knew the mansion a little more now, but still looking everywhere; she was so not making the math teacher -and fashion designer, no less- wait for her.
Knocking the door two times, then the girl held her breath; what kind of person was waiting on the other side? "Hmm...hello?"
"Hello, Miss Minoru," Adrienne called out from the other side of the door, "please, come in." She frowned over a quiz she was grading, then set the pile aside so she could lean over her desk and straighten the chair that was waiting for Nico.
And so she walked in, convincing herself Adrienne wasn't some sort of ultimate fashion bitch, or at least was pretty good at hiding it; honestly, the woman even looked nice. "Before anything...do you mind if I skip the Ms. Frost part? I'm not very fond of that sort of thing, but I understand some people, especially those older than me, expect it as a signal of...respect."
Nico sat in front of Adrienne, wondering what the woman could think about it. "Last thing I want is to disrespect someone", added.
Adrienne was stunned by the request. She was used to being called Ms. Frost- even when she'd been a teenager on the runway; hell, even Garrison called her Ms. Frost half the time- and had always felt that telling people to call her Adrienne was a sign that she respected the person she was speaking to, that she was willing to let them discover a little of who she really was. Having a student ask for this custom to be reversed seemed quite strange, and froze a lot of the geniality she was coming to automatically feel when meeting with her students instantly.
Still, the girl was new here, so Adrienne tried to be magnanimous about it. "I... suppose I can tolerate it, though I must admit that I find your argument of 'I don't want to disrespect you even though I know since you're older than me you'll probably be disrespected, yet I'm going to ask anyway,' a little self-serving. But putting that aside, what can I do for you today?"
"It's not like that...huh." Nico tilted her head; she head really done it, didn't she? "You are right; I guess I'll just have to earn that privilege." Nico frowned, but it didn't last much; she usually wouldn't act like that, but still, life wasn't particularly logical lately; she was still adjusting, but the girl wished it would be faster process. "I apologize for being rude." Maybe she had an attitude thing and only now was discovering it?
"The reason I came here, Ms. Frost...actually, I'm not quite sure; you did mention your store, and the probable need of someone else over there? And I certainly think I can do a good job. So...do I need any qualification? Or do you have someone else already?"
"Apology accepted," Adrienne replied with a smile. She was thoroughly enjoying this being magnanomous thing. "Don't worry about it. I've had people ask me if they can call me all number of things a lot ruder than my name." She restacked the quizzes on her desk and set them aside once again, setting aside that part of the conversation as well. "I believe they're still looking for people at the store, yes. The only qualifications are a good work ethic, respect for coworkers and customers, and honesty. I think you should be able to do a good job, too. Have you ever worked in a clothing shop before?"
I have done enough shoplifting the last half of the year to own a store Of course, that was different, since it was a survival thing. Or at least she wanted to believe that.
"Nope. Before my, err, accident, I really didn't have the need to work much...at all...karma is a really interesting concept to explore when you are starving to death on the streets." Nico gasped, realizing she had probably let a little too much out. "I think I know the basics though. I would really like to be useful; I'm staying here for free, and I can't stand that, actually."
Adrienne nodded, remembering how Cammie had had similar feelings about freeloading at the mansion and how well Cammie was doing at the shop. "That's fine, we don't require any previous experience. And you say you enjoy sewing clothes which is a good thing. I find when someone is doing something related to something they enjoy, they often pick it up faster. What sort of clothing do you sew?"
"Just about anything", replied the girl as she made a mental inventory of things she had sewed. "Jackets, coats, trenchcoats, pants, skirts accessories...I've even done underwear, and some hats and shoes, but I think Megan can teach me a thing or two about shoewear; having her as a room mate makes want to get a hold on a sewing machine as soon as possible." She still needed to find that Clarice person who also sewed. Maybe if she first asked the Jay person...? There was way too much people on the mansion. "I have a thing for classic style, but I used to sew things for friends, and they asked just about anything." Nico rolled her eyes, remembering the stuff she had made.
"I guess I probably have an eye for clothing, even if it's merely instinct, so helping people around with it sounds like an interesting job."
"Well, if you have a resumee I'll give it to the store manager and we'll see about getting you started over there," Adrienne said with a nod. "Another mansion resident, Miss Black, is also employed there so if things work out you'll already know someone there." She just hoped Cammie and Nico would get along. Adrienne suspected that the two, having similar backgrounds and some similar personality traits, would either get along famously or fight to the death. If it ended up being the latter, she just hoped they did it outside the store. Bloodstains were a bitch to clean.
"I don't have a resumee..." It was pretty obvious, but Nico decided it was better not to snap at the person who actually wanted to employ her. "Black?" Nico blinked, trying to relate the last name to a face. "Oh, her? The green haired poisonous one?" Nico smiled, trying to decide what to think about such coincidence. "Interesting times in the horizon..." Still, she needed to focus on the current problem at hand. "How should I handle this resumee thing? I must admit, I'm clueless about having a job..."
"I can probably help you with that. I've seen a lot of resumees in my day." Adrienne pulled a pad of paper out of the pile of other things on her desk and picked up a pencil. "I'll write you a template with the necessary subject headings and then you can just fill them in, alright? The literature teacher, Mister Sefton, might also be able to help if you need. I imagine he'd know some pretty fancy words you can put in it to say good things about yourself," she smiled.
Nico's eyes widened as she remembered the serious blue teleporting devilish guy. "He's the angry bl- Amanda's brother right?" First impressions were hard to kill. Still, she considered it was for the best to talk to him, just to let him know she hadn't killed anyone lately, and that she wasn't full of acid and toxic waste...not like certain someone she might need to talk as well.
The girl nodded, happy to see things getting shape and purpose on her life, or at least on some immediate sense. "I'm very grateful, and I promise I will do my best...I think I should talk with Cammie as well...just to let her know." Oh, she was going to love it.
"That's probably a good idea," Adrienne agreed, scribbling rapidly on the pad of paper. "And yes, Amanda's brother. Though I don't know about angry blue man," she said, smirking to show that she didn't mind Nico saying what she had. "He most likely only appeared that way out of worry. I've never known him to be anything except a gentleman. And an amazing chess player," she added thoughtfully. Running an eye over the paper, Adrienne ripped it off the pad and handed it to Nico. "Fill in the blanks on that, type it up, and as soon as I have it back I'll give it to the store manager," she promised.
Nico gave the paper a look; while she thought it wasn't way too complicated, she might need some extra, blue help. "Oh, I was talking about Amanda; I'm starting to think I am not the first troublesome magic-related person she has dealt with. Her brother is kind of cool actually, but he supports her: that's what family does." She had to
make an effort to refrain tearing the sheet on her hands. Nico then stood, forcing a smile tmwards Adrienne. "I will be back at you once I get this done; once again, thanks, Ms. Frost."
Adrienne gave a laugh as the girl stood. "Oh, right. Yes, she can definitely be classified as angry sometimes. And I think you're definitely on the right track assuming you're not the first troublesome magic-related person she's dealt with." She couldn't hide the smirk on her face as she thought about what her witchy friend had said about her past. "I think she knows a lot about the subject, actually. And you're very welcome, Miss Minoru."
Knocking the door two times, then the girl held her breath; what kind of person was waiting on the other side? "Hmm...hello?"

"Wait...what do you mean? I know she studied here so..." Nico didn't feel like finishing the sentence, opting to keep it quiet for the time being.
"I think that's a question for her to answer," the math teacher answered with another smile, "though I will tell you that she once turned someone into a frog."
