Logan and Crystal - Dori's Fear
Oct. 29th, 2009 10:54 amCrystal stops by Logan's room to find out what he knows about the circumstances surrounding Doreen's newly popped claws.
Logan took a deep breath though his nose and exhaled it slowly through his mouth. In and out, slow regular breathing. He let his eyes close to better focus on his own self and not the world around him. But despite this noble intention, the outside world decided to intrude itself noisily upon him.
*KNOCK, KNOCK*
Logan ignored it. Maybe whoever it was would go away.
*KNOCK, KNOCK*
Motherfucker. Go away!
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Grumbling, he unfolded from his lotus position and walked over to his door. Opening it, he paused for a moment.
"What?"
Well, it certainly wasn't the most pleasant greeting in the world, but considering that it was coming from Logan, it certainly wasn't the worst. "I apologize if I am disturbing you," Crystal began. "I hope that you will spare me at least a few minutes of your time and speak with me."
He blinked, surprised. "Fine." he said, backing off so Her Highness could get through his door. His room was stark, utilitarian, sans decoration of any kind. Only a wood-carving knife and some wood scraps indicated that anyone lived here at all.
That, if you discount the lingering smell of Cubans that lurked in the air.
"Thank you," Crystal said, stepping inside. It was obvious that Logan smoked inside the room, but as long as he didn't light up right in front of her, Crystal decided to just ignore the smell. This was Logan's room, after all, even if Crystal was fairly certain there was a general "no smoking in the mansion" rule.
Which Logan had been cheerfully ignoring with Chuck's full knowledge since the day he arrived. "Can't imagine you actually want to come talk to me so we'll skip the formalities. What do you want?" he asked her
Yes, Logan certainly knew how to be a polite host. Still, Crystal knew he wanted her to be there less than she wanted to be there. "I would like to speak with you regarding Doreen Green," Crystal explained. "I understand that her claws pierced through her skin for the first time as part of her reaction to being frightened by you. I fully understand that you did not mean to cause her to become frightened, but this is what happened. Dori appears to be viewing you as a predator and herself as the prey. She believes that just as she is able to know when you are around, you must be able to smell her fear. Perhaps this is true, and perhaps it is not, but I realized that even if you are able to know that she is afraid, you might not have known why this was the case."
"And this is your concern why?" he asked. "But to answer the question, the kid just spooks easy. Nothing I can do about that." he said. "I'm not trying to get on the girl's nerves, she's just jumpy. Skittish." he said with a shrug. "Not my problem. She should talk to Chuck, get her head on straight."
Crystal looked at Logan in shock. She wasn't quite sure what she had expected, she just knew that this wasn't it. Perhaps Logan had misunderstood her, had thought that she was trying to blame him. "I am not saying that I, or anyone else for that matter, hold you accountable for her fear, or what happened yesterday," Crystal said slowly, trying to remain calm. "What I am saying is that there is a problem, and Dori's chosen solution is not a good one. She intends to just stay out of your way, and she should not have to do this. Again, it is not your fault that the two of you appear to have an unfortunate powers reaction, at least from her side, but the problem does exist and it needs to be solved. I suppose I had hoped that you would wish to be part of the solution and help Dori learn to either control or get rid of her fear about you entirely. I am not sure how much can be done without your help, but I suppose that having Doreen speak with someone about this issue is the first step towards allowing her to live here without fear."
"Sure you don't." he said. "It's gotta come from her. Can't just impose something like this on her without her will. Won't work." he said. "Dori's got a problem. Fine, I get it. She needs help. Also fine. Go talk to the geezer, track Samson down and schedule some couch time for her, work it out. They need me to help in the process, I'm OK with that." he said. "What's your stake in this, Princess?" he asked casually, leaning up against the wall.
"My stake in this?" Crystal repeated. "As I just said, I wish to help Dori. I want her to be able to live without fear. Without intervention, it appears that Dori will just try to avoid you, and this is not a good solution. She should not feel fear just because you, or perhaps someone else with a similar mutation, happens to be in the same area with her. Yes, it is her problem, but now that I know about it, and have been told that she has not talked to anyone about her issues, I wish to ensure that this changes. I will let the proper people know about this, and hopefully we can help Dori begin the steps needed to get over her fear. Thank you for your time."
"Right." he said. "Chuck or the Doc needs my help, I'd be happy to." he said. Why she needed to talk to him about this was still beyond him - he knew the girl avoided him and he was perfectly willing to let her work it out in her own way, in her own time. If she wasn't coming up here to pin this on him, then why was she here again?
Whatever passed for thought in that girl's head was a mystery and a half. It's not like he could wave a magic wand and fix Dori's issues in one go.
