Yvette and Nico - Halloween Decorating
Oct. 30th, 2009 08:42 pmYvette and Nico get the ballroom ready for Halloween and Nico gets an idea about making things memorable.
The handy thing about doing origami, Yvette reflected as she stepped back to look at their handiwork, was that it made for some handy skills in the way of decorating. Halloween wasn't really an Albanian holiday, but she'd been in the States now long enough to appreciate the benefits of costumes and candy. "How are you going, Nico?" she called across the ballroom to the new girl. "Are you needing the help?"
Sewing was one thing; you pictured what you wanted, you took the materials, and then you did magic, or at least that was how Nico was used to work, even before the Staff of One. However, decorating wasn't as easy as she had thought; one would think that the girl should had had a gift for those things, but she didn't. "I'm holding my ground here, but I think this spider looks more like a bat... or was I trying to make a bat? I think it could easily be both." Turning towards Yvette, Nico gave her one of her best smiles; the girl was really helpful, sharp skin and everything considered. There was something in that look that made her ridiculously cute too, but Nico would need to be crazy -or drunk, or stoned, or God knows what- to say that out loud.
Yvette giggled. "Perhaps it is the flying spider?" she suggested, looking at the decoration. "I do not know about you, but I think such a thing would be very scary, yes?"
Nico took some distance to watch her uncertain piece of work. "Yes, that thing gives me the creeps." Turning to see Yvette's work, Nico had to make a small bow at her. "Woah there, Yvie, from now on you are the Decoration Godess, hands down."
Yvette couldn't blush, but her eyes flared brighter at the praise. "It is not such the big thing," she hastened to reply. "I do the origami, as the powers training, and it is helping me with such things. Mr. Haller, he was teaching me to do this." She gestured at the various things Nico had sewn. "It is the much more clever thing, to be sewing, I think. After all, I cannot be wearing the paper clothes!" She giggled again.
"Eh, I'm still a little rusty." Now Nico was blushing, but she didn't mind the compliment one bit. "Working really helps me to put my mind in order." Rotating slowly, the girl took her time to look their handiwork. "Yep, good work."
"I hope that everyone is liking it," Yvette agreed. "We did not have so much time to be making ready, but I think we have not done so badly. And we still have time for getting costumes ready for ourselves!" Not that Yvette needed a lot - her costume just required a change of colour and a pair of over-large sneakers.
Nico nodded at the red girl's words. "Yeah, even for a rushed work, teamwork worked just fine, I guess. And now that you mention, I should get to make my own costume...as soon as I figure what to do; I haven't dressed up in ages." Giving it a second look, Nico tried to find anything else to add, but the ballroom seemed pretty well decorated. Maybe more realism? An idea started to form in her mind...
