While lessons resume, Amara's attention is elsewhere.
"Stop!" Manuel called out from the center of the ring and made his way over to Amara, who was on his horse, not fairing as well as she should be. Impatiently, it took him a moment and he leaned against the horse. Pushing Amara's leg back, Manuel let his cane slide down his arm as he lifted a part of the leather saddle and began to unbuckle the girth. The horse shifted forward and Manuel's hand quickly grabbed the reins and continued to unbuckle. "You did not do this tight enough and you will slide off." At least he had the strength to do this and pulled up on the girth, fastening it. The horse sucked in and then pushed out her belly, blowing out a long sigh to the tightening of the saddle. "She will get use to it," he said after a second and began to buckle the other strap.
Amara had been a little frustrated that things hadn't been going as well as she might have liked - and then even more so at the fact that it was her own fault. She did her best to move her leg out of Manuel's way, a little red from embarrassment.
"I will check it better next time," she finally replied, waiting for him to finish the adjustment.
"I am not sure where your concentration is this morning, but it is certainly not here," he quipped and let the leather drop back into place. Taking her foot, he put it in the proper spot in the stirup and pushed her heel down. "You would also keep your seat better today if you kept both heels own," he said as he stepped back a few paces and motioned her to go into a walk again.
"My apologies," she replied stiffly after a few moments, adjusting the position of her feet. Her mind still wasn't a hundred percent on the horse when she nudged it into moving, instead hoping she'd remembered to send off that email for Adrienne before she'd left work. She was fairly certain she had, but the phone had rung.
"Miss Aquilla, I do believe I do not need to remind you to pay attention toyour horse. Perhaps you do not want a lesson at all?"
"I'm here, aren't I?" She snapped back, dragging her mind back to the lesson at hand. She'd worry about everything else later.
"In body, Yes. In mind, you are elsewhere. It shows in your posture. Sit up."
Biting her tongue - since he was right -she straightened up, checking her feet again before adjusting her hands on the reins just slightly before moving off again.
