Amanda goes to check on Meggan, and ends up helping break the spell Selene cast on her hair in a very smelly way.

Backdated to Monday afternoon

Meggan was trying to relax as much as she could after everything. For right now, she felt like she had slept for as long as she could possibly sleep, and probably had more than enough extra naps to last her a while. If she kept sleeping, she would just be wide awake all night. She’d already gone for a long talk with Catseye, and ended up with a nice handful of chocolate eggs, now residing on a nearby table.

So for now, she was just leaning back on her bed and starting on something she’d bought a couple of days before the nightmares had started. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.

There came a gentle tap at the door, followed by it opening a crack and Amanda's head being stuck around the edge. "Hey, Meg," she said, giving her little sister a smile. "You up for visitors?"

The witch looked tired and a bit pale, but nowhere near as thin and drawn as she had been immediately after the ritual - she'd made a point of staying away until she looked less scary and just before driving out, she'd spent a couple of hours' "quality time" with New York, soaking up as much energy as she could.

Meggan immediately glanced up at the tap, before setting the book aside on the table nearby. She gave her sister a small smile. “Hey there. Sure, come on in.” Meggan had been looking on the pale side herself following the ritual, but she had a little more color back now. At the very least she didn’t look like she was recovering from a bad bout of the flu anymore.

Amanda came in and sat on the side of the bed, before leaning forward to hug her sister tightly. “I had to come make sure you were all right with my own eyes,” she said, slightly muffled by Meggan’s shoulder. Then she let go and leaned back a little to look her over. “You been sleeping all right? No more nightmares?”

Meggan shook her head. “No more nightmares, so yes. They’ve stopped. I think I was too tired to really even dream much of anything after everything…but there definitely weren’t any nightmares in there.” She probably would have gone running straight to Kurt if there had even been a hint of one that first night.

“I’m guessing Blue’s already made you promise to come to one of us if you get anything like that again, yeah?” Amanda said, mostly wryly but with an element of seriousness as well.

And Meggan got just how serious that was, too. She nodded firmly, with a slight grin. “I promised to do that before he even asked, actually.” All humor gone, she added, “If it ever goes anywhere like that again, or if it even feels like it might be, I’m telling while I can.” She never wanted to go through anything like that again.

“Well, hopefully there won’t be a next time,” Amanda replied. “But yeah, what with what Kurt and I do and the enemies we make, plus the whole magic angle with the family… well, you can bet I’ll be keeping a closer eye on things.” She unslung the book bag she’d left on her shoulder in the rush to hug Meggan and held it up. “I brought warding supplies – I figured I’d do a set on your room, if you and your roomie don’t mind? An added something to make sure?”

Wards in the room might make Meggan feel better, actually--advance warning for any supernatural entities coming for a visit, prior to them getting into her head would be a welcome relief. “After everything, I know I wouldn’t mind at all.”

And while Amanda was here, she might as well ask about fixing something Selene had done. She gestured to her still dark hair with a small grin. “And then, if you have the time--do you think you could possibly try to fix my hair? Please? Selene did something with her magic to make it stay like this.” She really didn’t want to be stuck with it for much longer, and it was a little bit on the freaky side when looking in a mirror if you forgot about it for a split second—but if she had to, she knew she could handle it.

Amanda grinned. "Yeah, I'd noticed the makeover - bloody witches and their tendency to make alterations." She reached out to touch Meggan's hair, wrinkling her nose a bit at the magical 'feel'; like with all of Selene's magics, it had a dark, oily 'taste' to it that made Amanda queasy. "I charged up before I came out here, so I should have enough in the bank, so to speak," she continued, rubbing a couple of strands between her fingers. "And with Selene dead, this shouldn't be hard to reverse. Might smell a bit, tho'."

It was good to have confirmation as to what the end result had been after she’d been teleported out of there. She really didn’t need (or want at this point) to know the details. A hint of a wry grin appeared as Meggan asked, “Smells worse than rotten eggs, I’m guessing? I’ll cover my nose.” She didn’t want to hold her breath, just in case it took a while--she didn’t feel like passing out. And if it was really bad, she would hop in the shower and open a window before it took down anyone else in the mansion with a heightened sense of smell.

"Pretty much, yeah." Amanda dug around in her bag and extracted a jar of greyish powder. "I had a feeling you might need this," she explained, unscrewing the lid and scooping out a small handful. The smell was already strong, a mixture of rotting leaves and swamp mud. "Or rather, Tante did - this turned up in the mail yesterday from her with a note. I think she just likes showing off, sometimes." She raised her hand above Meggan's blackened hair. "Better close your eyes," she suggested. "You don't want this stuff getting in them."

“Right.” Meggan winced as the smell hit her even with her nose covered, but didn’t complain. She knew it could never possibly be something simple when it came to undoing Selene’s magic, like saying Bippity Boppity Boo over it. She just held her nose a little bit tighter, obediently closed her eyes, and waited. She was definitely opening the windows later.

Amanda started sprinkling the powder onto Meggan's head, muttering something under her breath that was either a spell or just a scathing running commentary on the smell. Where the powder touched, however, the black colour leeched out of Meggan's hair, wisps of darkness rising like smoke from the girl's head. When the spell was done at last, Meggan's hair was black to blonde and the air was slightly smoky, as if someone had lit up a cigarette. The smell, however, was certainly not tobacco - it was a weird combination of New Orleans swamp and something that had washed up on a beach.

Meggan managed to keep from cringing more than she had already from the smell of the powder, but it was a near thing. If she wanted to go and talk to anyone in the next few hours, she decided that she would have to remember to stand downwind, and five feet away. Even after a shower, this was bound to linger a little. It was worth it to fix what Selene had done, but oh, that smell. Slightly muffled from behind her hands, and keeping her eyes closed until told otherwise, she muttered, “I’m hugging you again when you’re finished, even if I smell like something died.

Amanda snickered. "Hazards of the magic, monkey. Jimi told me once Margali used to keep yak cheese in her bra for some spell or other, so be grateful neither of us were around for that."

Meggan couldn’t help it--she laughed at that thought. “That would be terrible to be near.” And probably more than a little disturbing if someone somehow forgot for even a second, tried to hug her, and ended up with it all over them.
