At her birthday celebrations, Lex and Amara chat briefly about the likelihood of him dancing, and the turn out for the party. And then there is champagne.
A year ago, Amara had spent her birthday being dragged out to celebrate by Lil, somewhat under protest. In the past year, Amara had learnt to unwind just a little bit, and that is what had brought her out tonight. The crowded nightclub didn't panic her quite as much as it might have once, and she was having fun with the ecletic group of people she called friends. She was currently taking a break from dancing, and ducked back to where they'd managed to snag a table with a bottle of water. The table wasn't completely unoccupied, and Amara flashed a smile at Lex as she flopped into the seat.
"So are we going to see you out on the dance floor soon?"
"Sadly, I only do private dance parties... and most of those are of the exotic variety." Lex smiled back, playfully. He had invited Vee to come out with them, but he didn't know if she was going to make an appearance. His only fear would be that she would come dressed as Daniel and demand a dance. He would do it, of course, but it would embarrass him thoroughly. "There are only a few ways to get me to dance in public, and most of those require copious amounts of liquor."
Amara laughed a little at that, twisting open the bottle of water and taking a quick sip from it. "So we will have to get you drunk then? I am sure that could be arranged." Not that Amara was really the type to push someone into doing anything they wanted, but she wasn't the only person here tonight.
"Yeah, or Vee will have to show up," he replied nonchalantly. Then, realizing that he might have overstepped his bounds, gave her a briefly apologetic look. "I invited her to come, I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all," Amara said reassuringly. "It was an open invitation, so the more the merrier." She grinned and took another sip. "And if it gets you out on the dancefloor, then even better."
He smiled at that. It would be interesting for him to get on the dance floor in a public setting. Lex thought he was good at gyrating, but he didn't have much practice doing it on his feet. Oh well, he thought, if she shows up then I'll have to do it. There was nothing else to be said, Vee would never pass up an opportunity to make him mildly uncomfortable. "Are you happy with the turnout?"
"I am!" Amara said happily, glancing over to a cluster of her friends from college. "I don't think I've ever spent time with both my friends from college and from the mansion. It's nice to see everyone getting along okay."
Lex looked around and saw the crowds mingling. They looked happy. "So true, I guess the college crowd are more open minded than most." His smile turned a bit sad as he realized what he had said. There were so many intolerant people out there that it was a miracle that they could go anywhere freely. Lex looked at his empty glass and decided to change the subject, "Would you care for a real drink?"
"They are. And it helps that quite a few of them are from HeliX, so while most of them aren't mutants, they're still mutant friendly. I do not think I would get along with people who weren't." Amara wasn't exactly shy about the fact that she was a mutant, even if she could hide it if she wanted to.
"I would, thank you very much. Just a glass of champagne."
"Ah, that makes perfect sense. It does nothing for us to hide the fact that we are mutants, I mean some of the people I'm closest to at the mansion can't," Lex smiled, thinking about the ferals he had befriended early on. They were a good bunch, and he would hate to hide while they could not. "I will be right back with your champagne."
