Log: Bishop and Laurie

Bishop hands Laurie some medical files to run by Hank and Jean



Laurie straightened in her office chair and rolled her shoulders, she'd spent the last hour typing up correspondence and the various records Bishop had left on her desk and uploading them to the X-factor database, and she was about ready for a break. She contemplated whether she wanted to cook something, or order out. She knew the others would be around at various times, and she did have lunch with Kyle later on in the day so perhaps making some quick snacks that she could leave in the refrigerator would be the best solution.

Bishop stepped up the stairs and into the main office. He smiled at Laurie, not being one to ask if she was done or feel the need to supervise her at all. He moved directly to his desk and collected some files. "When you're done, will you have one of the medical doctors at the mansion take a look at these? I'm not inclined to trust any case reports." He held them up to show her the files before setting them on the corner of his desk.

"Sure," Laurie replied, looking at the files curiously before heading over to the kitchen and gathering some ingredients to make nachos. "I'm making snacks if you want something. So, who are the files of?"

"I don't really snack." Bishop replied with a laugh. "They're medical files from the coroner. I figure he probably didn't care enough to be thorough. Or have our expertise."

"Hmm," Laurie replied, placing the nachos in the microwave to melt the cheese, she could have used an oven but since this was just a snack and not a production, she felt that cheating a little was called for. "Does that usually happen with these sorts of cases? They're not afraid they'll get in trouble for cutting corners?"

"They've never seen anything like it. Most people don't take pride in their work and won't put extra effort into it. I assume all the files I get come from people like that. It keeps me from missing things, if nothing else." Bishop watched Laurie's kitchen work as they spoke.

"I never thought of it like that before, it makes sense," Laurie noted, pulling her nachos out of the microwave and placing the unmicrowaved portions back into the fridge. She was fairly sure that they'd be gone before she came back in the morning. X-Factor people kept strange hours, and could be in the office at any time of the day or night most days. "I suppose it's because I tend to treat everything I do like it's being graded, I just assume everybody treats things that way."

"They don't." Bishop observed. "Should but don't."

"So, do you mind if I look through them myself before I hand them over to Hank and Jean, or are they 'for their eyes only'?" Laurie asked, taking a bite of her nachoe and humming in contentment. She still had a lot of typing to do, and some filing of the paper results but she could take a minute just to enjoy her food. It was the little things in life that meant you didn't burn yourself to the bone with work, it was a lesson she'd learnt the hard way.

"Suit yourself. I wouldn't have an assistant that I was worried about looking at files."

"Awesome, I'll take a look during my lunch break before I hand them over," Laurie said, bringing her food back over to her desk and sitting down. "So, I've gotten most of the current case files written up, I just need you to take a look over them and add any notes before I upload them. I've sent copies to your computer for review."

Bishop nodded, clicking through some files on his computer, "You're a pretty decent assistant."

Laurie's cheeks flushed at the compliment but she merely smiled at him before bending over her computer once more, she still had a lot to get through before she could leave for the afternoon.
