Since Meggan passed her driver’s test and has a license, Kurt has a very special surprise for her. She is, needless to say, ecstatic.

Kurt was whistling to himself as he walked down the student corridor, stopping at a familiar door to knock.

"Meggan? Are you in?"

“Yes, Kurt,” Meggan called through the door as she put a book away. She had just finished some reading for class, and hurried over to open the door for him. “Come on in.”

"I had rather hoped you would come out, instead", he said with a grin. "I have a surprise for you."

“What,” Meggan started to ask before shaking her head. “Ignore that, it’s not a surprise if you tell me. I'll resist the urge to keep asking,” she grinned. However, as requested, she came out of her room.

"You are going to have to promise to close your eyes, a little later", Kurt continued mischievously. "But not just yet. We cannot have you falling down the stairs on the way."

“Or crashing into a wall before the stairs, if I don’t know where to turn,” Meggan agreed. “I promise I’ll close them the very second you tell me to, and I won’t peek,” she was quick to say. The eagerness may have been showing through just a tad.

"Good girl," he teased, wrapping an arm around her. "We will go to the ground floor and I think then it will be time. Our final destination is part of the surprise, you see."

Meggan wondered what it could be as she leaned into Kurt’s arm. “Okay. And there will be no miniature clues, like animal, vegetable, or mineral, I suppose,” she guessed with a smile. That was as close as she was getting to asking for a hint, since she had promised, after all. She let him lead the way.

They got to the main entrance hall before Kurt turned to her with a smile. "All right, little sister, time to close your eyes...and in fact, prepare for a teleport", he added, deciding to go the whole way on the secrecy.

Meggan closed her eyes, and then put her hands over them, too, just so she wouldn’t accidentally break her promise. From behind her covered eyes, she nodded. “I’m ready, Kurt, whenever you are,” she confirmed.

He wrapped his arm around her shoulders more firmly, then the usual sound and smell of his powers let her know they'd moved. Kurt steered her in the direction he had in mind, then she heard a metallic jingle as he brought her to a stop and turned her gently to face something.

"And we are here."

“Oh,” Meggan breathed, stunned speechless at the sight in front of her for a long moment. “A car. My present’s really and truly a car?” He wouldn’t have dropped the keys in her hands otherwise, she realized. She looked from the car to her brother’s face. “Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she excitedly exclaimed before hugging him. “I promise I’ll be extra careful with it!”

He laughed, hugging her back in pure pleasure at her own happiness. "I understand a car is the traditional gift to a newly qualified driver from their father, but in the absence of a father, Stefan and I thought it would be appropriate coming from us. We split the cost."

“Well, I love it,” Meggan laughed with delight. “Tell Stefan thank you, too. That, and that I think it’s beautiful and I’ll do my very best not to ever do anything to hurt it in any way,” she made sure to add. She didn’t want to ruin such a wonderful gift, especially if there was a chance it cost a lot.

"Of course I will", he promised. "I think we can trust you to be a safe and sensible driver, even if the car had already been a junker."

“Oh, pretty sure I’d love it even if the mirrors were wobbley, the seats didn’t go forward or back, and something was falling off somewhere,” Meggan grinned. She would have just gone back to pick it up, and carried on. This car didn’t look like anything was unsticking from anywhere. “Thank you again. I’ve already said it, but I really, really mean it.”

"And you are very welcome, my dear sister." Kurt grinned back. "I will even ride with you if you would like to take it out."

“How about now,” Meggan suggested. She wanted to try it out as soon as she could. “Instead of tomorrow. Could you please be my first passenger now?” It wasn’t really pleading, but it was a close thing.

The grin turned to laughter again and he nodded. "I have nothing else planned this afternoon. I am at your disposal for as long as you like."

“Good, good, that’s wonderful,” Meggan said with enthusiasm as she walked over to get in the car for the first time. It was hard not to rush over and dive in, but she just managed to restrain the impulse as she tugged Kurt forward. She was going to look around inside the car for a few minutes before they actually hit the road, just to see how it all looked. Inside her very first car. She wasn't going to get over that all at once.
