Plot: Cathouse: Jubilee and Laura
Apr. 14th, 2011 01:22 pmJubilee gains entry to the District X brothel and checks up on Laura before they try to take a snoop around. Things don't go entirely to plan.
Jubilee paused before the building she knew housed the District-X brothel, taking a deep breath and rolling her shoulders before her body language dropped into a persona she hadn't worn in what felt like decades, that of the streetwise homeless kid. The oversized clothing she'd brought from a goodwill combined with the bad blonde dye job she'd given herself, the baby blues and the ragged pixie cut she'd gotten her hairdresser friend to give her to make her age seem much younger then it actually was.
If she was lucky, the creeper would see dollar signs when he saw her, having a working girl who was legal but looked about fifteen would always be a money maker with the more unsavoury johns.
Having taken the time to prepare herself, she walked forward with an insolent strut, popping the gum she'd been chewing, something she hadn't done in years. It was almost like coming home, if home had been a deeply disturbing nightmare of a place with added torture.

To say she was eager to get into touch with someone else that was working with her was a little of an understatement. Still, Laura had kept a cold mask of indifference all the while she was being taken to meet with Jubilee. She hat gotten scarily good at putting up that facade as of late, to the point she was a little afraid of forgetting it was just a mask. Still, it was the mask that was keeping the whole thing working, and she wasn't about to mess with that.
"Hey", called the other woman in an icy tone that matched her overall display. Even with the dye, the clothes, the overall look, Laura could still sniff Jubilee there, and that was a relief.
"Talon!" Jubilee cried, darting forward to give Laura a hug, stepping back to grin at her as if they were long lost friends. "You totally should have told me you'd ended up in New York, I had to find out from Paul of all people. So...think you could get me a spot? I mean, for old time’s sake and all...come on, don't look at me like that, I totally helped you out that one time in San Fran, yeah? You wouldn't leave me out on the street like this would you? Not your old friend, Kitty!"
Jubilee's words rattled out like a squirrel on crack, and she popped her gum to emphasize her points, all the while keeping up a brilliant smile in 'Talon's' direction while not actually meeting her eyes at all.
Barry watched from the corner, his eyes narrowed in vague interest. Talon had served him well, and the new girl's eagerness made him think she could be well-used before needing to be replaced. Even so, he did not feel comfortable letting strangers work in his establishment; that would be dangerous business. He decided to hang back and see how the women interacted before making his approach.
Then again, maybe they had needed to plan that better. The hug was well appreciated; it was the fist contact she had had that didn't involve sex in a while, but she didn't let that transpire. Sighing, 'Talon' patted the back of 'Kitty' with a somewhat amused face. "I wouldn't leave you on the streets, not when I know you will have a wonderful time in here." She turned to watch at Barry staring at them, shooting him a 'So, can we keep her?' sort of look as she made her best effort to seem relaxed about the whole deal. Just a sex worker asking for a job for another sex worker, really!
"Come on, let's get you something to drink or something."
Later...
Jubilee flopped down onto the old and somewhat lumpy mattress that was currently her bed, glancing over at where Laura was standing by the door. She'd just spent what was probably one of the most disgusting hours of her life entertaining Lars, one of Barry's men. Lars had decided she was good enough to work at the brothel, and had said so to Barry. This meant she was in, for the moment, and that it was time to get to the real work.
"We need to get to work, try and find out as much as we can about the layout of this place and how hard it's going to be to get into Barry's office."
Oh, Laura knew what it was to go through Lars' judgement, and she could understand the way Jubilee felt.
Still, now that they were both in, her work would surely be a lot easier, at least in the sense she would be able to work with more ease. Not in the sense of working in there, but that couldn't be helped. "To work it is, then", said without much enthusiast as she looked outside. "All in all, walking around shouldn't be too complicated if we have a good excuse, but still, I'm glad I'm not alone in here."
"We'll need to split up at first, unless you think they'll buy you showing me about the place," Jubilee noted, not moving from her prone position on the bed. Lars had not been gentle, and she ached in places she didn't want to even think about. For all that he'd been a professional, not harming her in any way that would leave large bruising that a 'client' could complain about. He'd certainly tested both her experience and her resolve however, and it was going to be a pleasure on her part to take it out of his hide when they were finally done here.
Laura made a face. "Me showing you around might not end well, not while working, at least. Still, we can try to pull that one and see how it goes. Worst case we have to split up and get to work, right?" This was, in retrospective, a pretty bad deal. "At any rate...do you want me to go first?"
"Might be better, kid," Jubilee noted with a slightly apologetic smile. She didn't like sending Laura out alone like this, but it couldn't be helped. "Here, take this and signal me if you get backed into a corner."
Jubilee tossed her a small pin device, it could be hidden easily inside clothing, and if the head was pressed it would send a signal back to a device she slipped onto her ear. It looked just like an earring, and considering she had pierced ears, would not be of any particular note to someone looking her over.
Catching the pin with ease, Laura hid it in the folds of her clothes before leaving. "Take your time, okay? It wouldn't do any good if you start feeling bad in the middle of...uh, you get the idea." Giving her a small apologetic smile, Laura turned around and exited the room entirely, heading back to work.

Jubilee was making her way to the kitchens when she got a buzzing sound in her ear, Laura's emergency signal. She turned left instead of right and followed the buzz in her ear, which got faster as she neared Laura's location.
It would appear that Barry had decided to waylay her, or at least that's what it looked like to Jubilee.
She would be cursing under her breath if she didn't know it would only make things worse. Barry was a very literal pain, and the less she had to deal with him, the best Laura's day tended to be. When Jubilee found her, though, she was standing her ground to the man, almost taunting him to try and do something to her. "I have work to do", she said as she frowned a little.
"Yes, you do, but your attitude is costing me money and that means we're going to have a talk later with one of the boys if you do not start behaving." He wanted to hit her, to throw her in a small closet and lock the door, but he couldn't afford to damage her or cancel the appointments he'd already made for her. "Do you understand me?"
Laura's lips curled into a cattish smile. "Sure thing, stud. You do your job, and I'll do mine." Dealing with Barry wasn't going to get easier any time soon, she knew it, so it was a good chance to go and try to dispatch him without a fight, as much as she wanted it. Looking back at Jubilee, she made a little face for a moment before turning to Barry. "So, want me to show Kitty around? She can get to work right away once she knows where she's standing."
"That'd be great," she chirped, putting on her most inane smile as she glanced at Barry. "If you don't mind, that is, sir?"
It didn't hurt to be respectful, especially if it made him think she was biddable and easily led, while he was possibly professional enough not to be fooled, it didn't hurt to give it a shot.
That smile made Barry want to knock her down and have Lars run a punishment train on her with some of his more sadistic associates. However, she was new and she did need to know the way around the place. "Very well, you can escort her around but remember you only have 20 minutes before your next client is scheduled to arrive and if you are not there on time I will make sure that Lars takes the money lost out of your ass tonight."
Nodding, and toning down the smile after she could almost see Barry's face tightening a little, she turned to Jubilee again. "Then let's go, there's no time to waste." She waved at the girl, and giving a last innocent stare at Barry, walked past him, followed by Jubilee. One day...
