Backdated. Taking on a case of a runaway mutant teenager, Warren recruits Adrienne to help him find out more information about the missing kid.

Warren had been working hard in the XFI offices - mostly to give him something constructive to do while they still found nothing in regards to Vanessa's disappearance, and partly because they needed the help. With Vanessa MIA, Bishop focusing on her disapperance, Jean-Paul still gone and Laurie stepping back, it was a much smaller operation. And Warren didn't want to see Vanessa's hard work go to waste.

He'd just finished speaking to some parents worried about their missing mutant son, and had promised that they'd handle the case. It was something simple enough that it would probably take Laura a couple of hours in her sleep, but... he didn't often directly work on the cases, and he was pretty sure he could handle this one himself. So he promised the parents he'd done what he could, and that he'd be in touch.

But where to start? He was still musing over that when he wandered downstairs to Vanessa's apartment, idly flipping through the file as he did. The parents didn't know much, just that their son had started hanging out with 'the wrong sort of people'. Who knew what that meant.

Adrienne looked up from Vanessa's kitchen table, where she was affixing a bell with a bow and a nametag around the neck of her newest plush goat, and raised an eyebrow at Warren. "What was that all about?" she inquired curiously, having heard him upstairs in the office.

"New case," Warren replied, flipping the file closed. "Missing kid, wrong crowd. The parents are worried, and the police aren't leaping to investigate a mutant runaway."

"Are you gonna investigate a mutant runaway?" she asked, waggling her eyebrows at him expectantly.

"Looks like I am," he replied with a grin, waggling his eyebrows back at her. "Warren Worthington, private eye, at your service." He paused. "It's a pity I gave away all my trenchcoats. I could have rocked that look."

"You could rock any look, hottie," Adrienne teased, setting the goat down on top of Vanessa's tv and jingling it's little bell. "So what's the sitch on your mutant runaway? Wanna talk it through with me, see if thinking out loud helps you shake something loose?"

"It's true, I can. Did I ever tell you about the time I had to dress up as a showgirl?" With more and more time distant from it, he could see the amusing side of it.

"The parents don't know much. He had new friends he'd been hanging out with, but they don't know anything about them. I was thinking I might head over to their house, see if there's anything in his room." He paused, looking thoughtfully at Adrienne. "I don't suppose you want to come with me? We can snoop for clues the mutant-fashioned way."

Adrienne had been laughing about the showgirl comment but she narrowed her eyes suspiciously at Warren when he asked if she wanted to come along. "Is that your sneaky lawyerish way of saying that you would like to use my powers to help you solve your case? Because that's totally fine, but I do require payment in brownies for services rendered. And I have to work around my teaching schedule."

"Hey, I was going to offer to buy you a fedora. But if brownies are your going rate, I think I can swing that. Just as long as you don't want me to bake them. That's a recipe for disaster." Warren smiled blithely back at Adrienne, that had been his exact intention with the question.

"Wait! I take it back! I want a fedora! A nice one," Adrienne stipulated, eyes narrowed at Warren.

"Alright, alright. I'll buy you a fedora." Warren grinned.
