Scott has a chat to Artie about his little... adventure the previous day. Backdated due to lj fail.

Scott sat at his desk, he'd only just gotten into his office and taken a look at his paper work. He sighed as he moved to sit behind the desk, he had forgotten how quickly the paper work built up. Swiveling in his chair to face the window he opened the curtains and took a moment to look out over the mansion grounds before starting on the work on his desk.

Artie sighed and knocked on the door. He'd been Told and at this point, it seemed like there was no real point getting to bed till he'd had his chat with Scott, even if his head and shoulder were throbbing in time with his pulse from being tackled to the ground when he was first arrested. He had, however, showered and tugged on fresh clothes, his old ones being slightly filthy. "hey," he said, projecting the words into the air, black on a white background. "u wanted to talk to me?"

Scott turned to face the door, "Artie come in please, and shut the door behind you". He templed his fingers on his desk and looked at Artie, "So", he asked in a deceptively calm voice, "what exactly were you thinking sneaking into the tunnels like that? Do you have any idea what could have happened? You're lucky you were just caught by the police."

Artie took the time to close the door and sit down as he answered and to make his words as precise as printed text. People responded to that. He shrugged. "Nothing ever happened before. I know which parts to avoid, where the crazy homeless junkies are, where the crazies are and where the last few Morlocks are. It's safe." You know, now that Annalee wasn't there to try to brainwash him again or anything. Not that he blamed the X-Men for that or anything.

"Well" Scott replied, "it's apparently not as safe as you assumed. Did you ever consider what would happen if you were followed, or even spotted? The Morlocks can only live in peace at the moment since no-one is looking for them. If you got caught or stumbled into 'one of the crazies' what do you think would happen? We'd have to send the X-men in to get you out, and that's only going to bring attention on the situation. We could handle that, but what would you do if some kids saw you coming out of the sewers?", Scott glared angrily at Artie, "you may know how to proceed down there, but if someone else were to stumble into the Morlocks or the Gene nation remnants what do you think would happen?

"But no-one did follow me. If some kid followed me in and got rolled by a junkie, then that's kind of their own fault, isn't it? And if they got hit by Gene Nation, well, that's kind of a good thing, because those crazy bastards need to be wiped out. They took everything we had down there and broke it." Artie's head pounded with the effort of projecting the words and keeping them neat. He continued, quietly and desperately wanting to get to sleep. "I'm not a little kid any more. Amazingly, I thought about the risks before I went down there. Like I do every time." He caught up with his words a moment later. That was maybe not the best thing to have mentioned ever.

Scott stood up slamming his hands onto the table. "You thought about it? You think it's a good idea for an innocent kid to be slaughtered just so Gene Nation gets hunted down? Did you consider no-one is going to wait to tell the difference between Gene Nation and the Morlocks? It'll be a witch hunt and this time no one is going to get spared!" Scott took a deep breath, "Artie, do you really think that that's ok? Do you think that any innocent blood is worth that?". Scott folded his hands and looked at Artie expectantly.

"ok. jesus christ." Artie sighed. "Wade and Sam already went over it. Srsly, I *get* it." you condescending prick, he added, but only in the privacy of his own mind.

Scott collapsed back into his chair and dropping his elbows on the desk rested his face on his hands. "I'm not sure you get it Artie", he replied. "At least not completely, you still haven't understood how dangerous it is". He looked up, "I know you're only trying to help, but if you keep up like this someone is going to get hurt and then it's going to spiral out of our control."

"You're saying I can't..." he trailed off, head stabbing and pulled the speech synthesizer out of his pocket, typing quickly. "You're saying I can't have any contact with my own family! You don't get to just come back here and pull that. You don't know them. You don't know me any more. But no, I'm too stupid and careless to be allowed near them."

Scott sighed, his eyes full of disappointment, "Artie, what happened to you?" He shook his head, "You're just not getting me are you. I applaud your efforts but you're not thinking it through. If your family is so important to you then protect them, don't risk their safety. You got lucky this time, and you got arrested! You can't help anyone from the inside of a jail cell. If you feel you have to see your family then atleast be careful not to bring any suspicion onto them." He shook his head, "Why were you even out so late? You were way past your curfew.

Artie shrugged and typed "I grew up, Scott. And I'd have been back before curfew if it wasn't for the whole jail thing."

Scott shook his head sadly, "You've gotten cynical Artie. But you shouldn't have been out so late that there was a chance you'd miss curfew in the first place." Scott sighed, "What am I going to do with you?" he asked .

"Of course I'm cynical. Ask Mr Haller about it sometime. You know, since he's actually been around for the last few years, rather than just playing with the Annex."

"So that's what this is all about then?" Scott inquired. "You think I ran off and left you? I hate to break it to you Artie but I was barely holding myself together 2 years ago, I needed to get away." He stopped and shook his head, "Back to you though, I'm going to assign you to help the cooks in the kitchen for the next 3 weeks." His gaze softened, if you want we can probably arrange for someone to come with you to visit the Morlocks for a while, to stop anything like this happening again, at least until the police forget about the incident."

But you could have found a way to stay here with us Artie thought. Outwardly, he nodded. There was no point arguing. When people left, they left, regardless of what you wanted. "Yes sir. Kitchen," he tapped out. "May I be excused? I haven't been to bed yet." The nap in the car didn't count. Not with Wade driving. "I won't be visiting them again. It was just the holidays, you know?"

"Yes Artie, you can go." Scott replied sadly, "Go and get some sleep." He watched Artie leave and slam the door before turning back to the papers on his desk.
