xp_logsJenny and Phillip arrive at the school and are greeted by Scott and Lorna
It was quite a mansion. Despite his father’s position, Phillip had grown up in a large, but still reasonably sized home in an excellent neighbourhood, near that of Jenny’s family. Since the Governor’s estate had burned down in the 70s, Genoshan Prime Ministers occupied suites at the Citadel, but some choose to retain their homes outside as well, to provide some normality for their families. This was nothing like that, almost a castle with massive wings on a huge, fenced estate.
The invitation from Professor Charles Xavier had been clear. He wished them to join his staff at the school for lunch and a tour of the facilities. If they felt inclined, they were welcome to remain there as his guest until either the diplomatic situation was resolved or they chose to leave. At the front door of the school, two figures stood waiting; one a young woman with green hair, and the other, a tall, brown haired man, both who watched as they stepped out of the car.
“Here goes nothing.” Phillip gave Jenny’s hand a squeeze as they stepped out.
Scott examined the two youngsters as they got out of the car; they looked like normal teenagers, not at all like people who would rouse the furor which they had. He stepped forward to greet them with a smile on his face. "Philip, Jenny, welcome to the Xavier Institute. I'm Scott Summers, one of the senior staff here. This is Lorna Dane, another member of the staff." His eye lit up with enjoyment as he watched them take in the mansion. "Takes your breath away doesn't it?"
Lorna smiled at the two teens as Scott introduced them. "Welcome to the madhouse- it is never a dull moment here." Looking from one to the other, it has been awhile since Lorna played host. "I hope you two are hungry, I prepared something special."
Jenny's eyes had gone wide when she got out of the car, her gaze moving over the mansion and not quite being able to believe the size of it. And how pretty it was! And this was a school? For mutants? She squeezed Phillip's hand in return, then moved her gaze to the two people meeting them somewhat belatedly and smiling.
"Thank you Scott, Lorna. This place truly is beautiful." She grinned a little at Lorna's comment. "And I'm definitely starving."
"She's always hungry. Seriously." Phillip said as he took in the campus. It was like some of the pictures of the old British schools, with their mansion-like buildings and surrounding grounds. He knew from the internet that the Xavier family was old money, but it really didn't prepare you for it. "We appreciate you agreeing to take us in. The officials from the State Department explained the kind of diplomatic situation that we dropped them into, so I'm grateful they didn't solve it by just sticking us back on the first flight to Hammer Bay."
"It's our pleasure" Scott replied "It has turned into quite a hot potato for the State Department, I'm just glad we were able to help resolve it." He gestured to the door, "Shall we get the tour started?" he asked with a smile as he started up the stairs. " I've learnt to look forward to it when Lorna cooks up something 'special'. Unless you have any questions for us?"
Lorna smiled at the Jenny and Phillip comments. "Well good, there is always something in the kitchen cooking or in the cabinets. You may come by anytime." Nodding with Scott. "We are more than happy to help." Smiling at the two of them. She turned to start up the stairs. "Yes, do not be shy when it comes to asking us questions about this place or about ourselves. We want you to feel right at home."
Jenny's cheeks had gone a little dark at Phillip's comment about her always being hungry - it was true, of course, but no teenage girl liked having their eating habits being commented on.
"No questions yet," she replied to Scott and Lorna. "But I'm sure I'll have plenty by the end of the tour." She was quite curious about the place, but she had decided she'd let them tell her about it before she started firing them off. Hopefully they'd answer some of them in the course of the tour.
"Agreed." Phillip said as he looked around. "This entire place is a school? The grounds, the whole mansion?"
Scott turned to face the teenagers, "All of it," he confirmed. "The mansion and grounds used to be the home of the Xavier family. When the Professor decided to create a school he just had the mansion's rooms converted into classrooms, offices and suites."
"It is hard to believe that this is actually a school." She opened the door that lead into the mansion. "And little stuff was added, like the skate park out back, the gym, basketball and volleyball courts. Just to name a few."
"And just for mutants?" Jenny looked around at everything as they walked through the door, amazed by the building all over again. It was so luxurious, the mutants who attended here were pretty lucky. "Do the students live here as well?" So much for waiting until after the tour to ask questions.
"All the students here are mutants," Scott replied, "We aim to teach them to control their powers and to be able to live normal lives." He gestured towards the stairs, "The students share suites on the second floor, while the staff have suites on the floor above them. It's a fully functional boarding school."
"It's a little like the enclave in Hammer Bay." Phillip said, amazed by the scope of the school. "Not as rich, but a community of mutants." However, he didn't mention that like most Genoshans, he'd only seen it from afar.
Lorna smiled as Scott talked, it seemed like he was doing just fine explaining everything. "This place has a homey feeling, you'll feel welcome here. And safe."
Jenny looked up again, then glanced back at the front door. She couldn't quite imagine this place feeling homey, but safe? Safe should could understand. And she had certainly felt welcome so far.
