Thursday afternoon, Meggan finally receives letters from the colleges she applied to. Not wanting to open the remaining two of them alone after the first rejection, she seeks out Korvus.

Meggan was holding two letters nervously in her hands, unsure of which to open first. Which she might have been more likely to get an acceptance letter. There had been a third, ripped open hastily and messily earlier in her room, before she had actually paid attention to where it had originated from. Despite a few ragged tears and wrinkles in the paper, she knew with certainty she wasn’t getting into that college.

She just wanted someone with her when she opened the other two, for moral support. Or even open one at the same time she opened the other, so there wouldn’t be precious minutes wasted. She poked her head around the corner, smiling when she spotted him. “Hi, Korvus? How would you feel about sharing College Letter Opener And Reader duty with me? It’s just two letters, we could rip them open dramatically at the same time,” she began. Sort of like people did at award shows, but without massive amounts of expensive jewelry to show off.

Korvus looked up from his reader with a smile, unfolding from his position in the common room's window and moving toward Meggan. "Only if we do so dramatically." He said with a playful grin. "Which university would you prefer to attend?" He asked as he presented his open right hand. It was the letter he wanted to open himself.

“It’s almost a tie, but I think Empire State University is edging out into the lead,” Meggan answered with a grateful grin. She handed him the letter from that one, while she kept the second. ESU was slowly becoming her first pick, if only for the classes she might like. “So...you get that one.” It was the one she was the most nervous about opening, really, so he could open it with more of a flourish, and less of a suspenseful stopping and thinking. “I’ll open Westchester College. We start tearing on the count of three?”

As Meggan spoke, Korvus flipped the envelope over in his hand. "I have also applied to this university. I am interested in their Philosophy program." He noted before sliding his finger under the flap. "One... two... three!" He counted out along with her before tearing it open along the crease with a quick jerk of his finger.

She nodded at his words, hoping he got in for the program…and partly glad to know that she wasn’t the only one left waiting. On three, Meggan was ripping through the envelope and shaking the letter out. Eager to get to the accepting or rejecting bit of the form letter. “And we’re off and reading!” Horse racing or award shows, that analogy needed some fine tuning. Silently, she skimmed through the contents, making sure to take in every paragraph carefully…which, while it proved to be a rejection, was possibly the nicest rejection letter she had ever seen.

Finally, she looked up at him. “I’m not getting in…but they’re seeming to be very apologetic, and gracious about telling me that. Korvus, what does ESU say?” She was hopeful, but cautious, as well as massively nervous. Two out of three had said no to her, maybe she could start looking around even more if this was a third. She hoped there was time enough for applications.

Korvus folded up the single peace of paper, holding it high up in the air pinched between his index and middle fingers. He grinned. "I am afraid this is not dramatic enough. I can not tell you so easily."

“How dramatic do you need? I could always fly up and read over your shoulder,” Meggan teased in spite of the circumstances. “Or I could tickle you until you told me what was in the letter. There could be drama in that.” Was there a thing where a school could be on the fence, and need a few more weeks to make a decision?

"I am not ticklish." Korvus retorted defiantly while still grinning. "It is also folded to prevent you from peeking."

Meggan had hoped to float up to his shoulders and tickle until he dropped it. “Foiled,” she chuckled. “Should we turn it into a guessing game? I have a 50/50 chance of being right. Or dramatically read it like they do at the Oscars!” Or any other award, where they had a long pause to heighten the suspense.

Korvus simply scooped her up with his left arm, hugging her tightly. "You were accepted!" He told her excitedly.

A moment to sink in, and then she was going into celebration mode. "I got in? Oh, I really got into ESU, YES,” Meggan squealed as she shifted slightly, all the better to return the hug with enthusiasm. Being scooped up preemptively had saved her the step of leaping into his arms. She was relieved she didn’t need to look into other schools—but mainly ecstatic right now. She was more excited than when she had successfully earned herself a driver’s license.

Hugging her fully, Korvus even twirled Meggan around a bit before setting her down. "I am very happy for you." He said sincerely, looking down at her. "I believe you will excel at university."

“Thank you. I hope I excel, too!” Meggan had to break the good news to Amanda and Kurt. Then, she remembered that he was still waiting to hear back from schools. “You’ll let me know the minute you get your letter?”

"You will be the very first person I tell, I assure you." Korvus said with a smile, slipping his hand into Meggan's. "I believe this in an appropriate moment for an impromptu celebration. What would you prefer?"

“Ice cream,” Meggan suggested happily. “How about we get some ice cream?” A sundae was good celebration treat material. Whether it was from the kitchen or somewhere else, it really made no difference. Because--college! She'd been accepted! And pepperoni pizza didn’t really feel like the right 'I Got Into College, Pardon The Giggle Fits And Imminent Snoopy Dance' sort of meal.

Korvus nodded and smiled before moving to Meggan's side. "Ice cream it is." He agreed, his hand not yet leaving hers.
