The first team of X-Men in the prisons is ambushed.
Noise and light had exploded all around Catseye, who was taken aback after the relative silence and darkness she'd been in since entering the citadel. What the hell was going on?! There were soldiers everywhere! She pounced on a guard, knocking him unconscious as a half-dozen Magistrates swarmed around her. Everyone on the team looked like they were surrounded. Where had all these people come from?! Obviously they'd walked into a horrific trap. But she couldn't really think about how exactly that had happened right now. Right now was all about getting away from this guard, then the next one, then all the ones between her and the rest of her team.
Hand to hand combat was not really Clarice's forte. She could do it of course, she trained, but her powers were long range, she tended to strike and disappear instead of engaging directly. That was why it was really important that she learn hand to hand actually, for situations like this. If she survived, she was going to work on that. Definitely. For now though, surviving was key. "Not good guys," she murmured, crouching and wishing that she had her sword or something like that. She'd brought it into combat before, now would be an excellent time to start again. If she lived.
Kyle let out a low growl, and went into the fight, leading with claws rather than his normal elbows-and-knees strategy. "Get us out of here, guys!" He spat, before sinking his claws into the arm of one of the Magistrates that was grabbing at Doreen.
Being grabbed at and generally not amused about any of this, Dori did the first thing that came to her mind, she kicked - hard. The cracking of the bone in her attacker's leg was audible, so much so that to her it might as well have been thunder. On one hand, she didn't mean to kick them that hard. But on the other, she really, really couldn't bring herself to care as the magistrate in question collapsed, screaming.
It did not take long for Clarice to be overwhelmed. She was not a large girl and despite her training and muscle, was quickly outnumbered. This was the part that superhero movies didn't show. Even as she did as much damage as possible, she was certain she had broken at least one guy's nose and another's arm, that wasn't enough it seemed. "Fuck!" she yelled as one guy tackled her and she went down hard.
Kurt was doing his best to fight to his teammates' defence, but he didn't have the usual advantage of being able to flit in and out of the fight and strike from unexpected directions, so he was reduced to uncomplicated hand to hand and they were too far outnumbered for that to work for long. But Catseye, he noticed, had got clear. Catching her eye silently, he flicked his tail towards an opening high on the wall. An air duct.
Catseye had fought off the Magistrates that had been coming at her, taking out tendons in knees and using her weight to knock men unconscious. She had just fought her way nearer to the others when she caught Kurt's gaze and followed his tail to the air duct. She wasted no time in shifting to small cat form and jumping off a charging Magistrate into the air duct. From there, she launched herself at two approaching Magistrates and shifted to BigCat form in mid-leap. Great idea Kurt! she thought to herself excitedly. The added distance allowed her to hit the Magistrates with even more force!
There was a split second between seeing a Magistrate raise a baton and lunge for Dori and Kyle having a moment to do ... anything. He didn't even think to shout a warning, and instead took a stepping leap off the chest of the guard that Doreen had kicked and diving for the Magistrate that about to attack her. He caught the man around the neck and pulled him down. "Dori, get the fuck out of here!" It came out rough and garbled as he was struck across the jaw and ear, and Kyle spat out blood and a tooth before clawing at the man's face. "Go. Get out of here!"
Dori did a double take. Kyle's tone of voice set her hair and fur on edge and every part of her was screaming at her to run until she was somewhere safe, high and up and off the ground. Kyle hitting the floor with the guy who had lunged at her seemed to be in complete slow motion. She didn't want to go. She had to stay and help and not take off, in fear for her life.
Dori stood frozen for a moment before someone else lunging for her clinched it and she turned tail and ran, making high pitched clicking noises as she did so.
He'd been trying for subtlety, hoping Catseye could escape unnoticed, but in the circumstances... Kurt flung himself at the Magistrate who was about to club BigCat over the head and yelled at her, "Cheetara, only you can get away! Go!"
Startled by Kurt's tone, Catseye shifted back to regular cat form and leapt up into the vent again. From that vantage point she could see Clarice, who had been tackled, being trussed up by a handful of Magistrates. Kyle had taken one down with him but others had surrounded him. Dori had tried to run, screaming, but a swarm of soldiers quickly overwhelmed her as well. And now Kurt was telling her only she could get away. This was sooooo veryverybad.
But there were more X-Men in the prison. More teams. She could get help! Letting out a plaintive meow to tell Kurt she understood, she disappeared into the vent, searching for another team to come help save her friends.
