Nico, Sooraya, and Artie break into the Genoshan administration offices to access the computer filing system, noting mutants who have been ‘re-assigned’ living quarters out of the enclave, but never show up in other enclaves. They also found suspicious support requirements in isolated locations outside the city.
Sooraya waited until Artie nodded to her, signalling he had 'clouded' the camera's outside the administration offices for the mutant enclave in Hammer Bay. As soon as he nodded she dissolved, the dust cloud quickly slipping under the door. On the other side Sooraya hovered for a moment, checking if for any obvious security measures and how to unlock the door. There was a camera, but currently it was moving away from her, so she had the time to do so.
Unfortunately they had were of to a bad start as she was unable to unlock the outer door from the inside out without a key or something. Quickly she dissolved again, heading back to the other side. She quickly re-assumed her form and shook her head. "I can't just unlock the door from the other side... I think we'll need to pick the lock or something."
They needed to pick the lock. Alright. "Okay, no biggie. Never throw away a chance to try new things." Timing her run with the camera, Nico reached the door and kneeled so she could stare at the lock. She didn't know how to pick it, but she knew it was made of parts, and that those parts held the thing in one place. They weren't precisely organic, but they were surrounded by air, and carried energy up to some point. All she had to do was focus...
Nico's eyes went black as she focused on the keyhole. It was a vicious energy drain inside of the mechanism, using the air and her power to create rust. Nico didn't have the time to completely corrode the lock, so once it was frail enough she stood up and hit the door with her shoulder, hard yet carefully, breaking the lock and quickly entering the room.
Artie grabbed her jacket, dragging Nico back as his eyes scanned the room, noting distances, angles and lighting. This was hard, but he had a good vantage point and in a minute, he had a decent enough idea of the room's appearance to close his eyes and visualise a small scaled down mock up, adjusting the perspective for each of the three cameras. Opening his eyes, he took a deep breath and wrapped layers of projections around the cameras, hiding them from view and waved the girls in. Fuck.
As Artie dealt with the cameras once more, Sooraya spoke softly: "Nico, would you mind taking my clothes with you?" before once more resolving into her dust form and heading towards the inner door. Sending up a quick prayer for more success she dove under the door and hovered briefly to take in the situation. Seeing nothing but banks of computer she quickly resumed her human shape and turned the key that someone had left so thoughtfully inside the lock.
"Come on in." She called out very softly before resolving back into her sand form and hovered there as her companions entered.
Picking up the clothes that Sooraya had left behind, Nico made a quick sprint towards the door once again, finding the sand cloud inside. "Hurry", said as she left the clothes on the floor and turned her attention to the computers. "Alright, let's get working."
Sooraya quickly shifted back to her human form inside her clothes. "Let's do this." She agreed. She carefully closed the door behind them and moved over to Nico. "What do you need me to do?"
"Watch over my shoulder, tell me if miss anything." That said, Nico started to pick and open as many files as possible, looking anything that could lead them where their friends were. "Information about the facility, prisoner transfers...apparently some people is being moved over but I can't find where, the destination is probably even more secret than this whole thing. Weird. That...can't be good."
"People don't disappear into thin air." Sooraya agreed, her eyes flickering over the screen intently. She frowned for a moment as she caught something. "Wait for a moment." She leaned over Nico's shoulder and pointed out a strange symbol that seemed behind each name who were moved. "Think that means something?"
Nico smiled faintly. "Not to crush your optimism but sometimes they do, and it's not pretty. Let me see...ah, this leads somewhereelse." The strange icon reappeared later on other files. "This is some sort of equipment requirement, and I'm pretty certain it might related to the mutants being transferred out of the grid, to put it in a way. And...outside the city, wow."
"Mutants transferring away to an unknown locations, strange equipment requests... I think we have something here." Sooraya bit her lip, knowing that it probably wasn't anything good. To distract herself for a moment she looked over her shoulder at Artie. "Are you holding up okay?" She asked, not quite sure how strong his powers were and how long he could use them without trouble.
Artie finished plugging the drives Kane's contacts had given them into the racks of servers so that they could do their magic data mining thing and took the file from the girls. Keep looking, he gestured and began to memorized its contents.
Apparently things were going just fine on his side then. Sooraya turned back to the screen and continued scanning the data flashing over the screen. "What are they doing in the middle of no where with all that stuff?" She muttered softly to herself. "Making
more mutates or something?"
"Uh, maybe? We need to bring this to the people with bigger brains and more time seeing this kinda stuff though. It all points to shameless acts the Government isn't too eager to make public." Nico gave the files another look before sighing. "So, do we get the hell
out of here, or do we get the hell out of here?"
Artie closed the file, images from the final page dancing behind his eyes and reached over to unplug their drives. They'd already escaped once. The odds weren't good that they'd be able to again. "we pack up and go. this is useless if the others don't have it." He began to move quickly, putting things back where he'd found them.
At Artie's reply, Sooraya turned back to Nico. "I'll go make a quick check to see if the coast is clear for us..." With those words she once more dissolved into sand and dove under the closed door. Quickly she checked to see if their path was free and whooshed back under, reassuming her shape inside her clothing. "All is clear."
Nico made her way back from the files, making sure there was no trace of them being here. Once she was sure, the girl stood and gave a last look at the monitor before turning. "Alright, we're gone. The others need to see this stuff."
