The resistance forces make it to the edge of the city, and plan their attack.
The Magistrates were deploying, and Jenny had taken her army to the west, finally leaving the X-Men behind and drawing off the majority of the opposition. They had been in touch with those in the city, who had incited a riot in Hammer Bay that was soaking up Magistrate reserves at an alarming rate. Ororo’s team had finally picked up the others out in the country, and now they approached each other, ready for the final push on for the city.
"It is good we are all together again," Ororo said as she stood among her friends, former teammates and students, her smile weary but no less determined for it. "We have all been through so much - too much for any ordinary person to handle. Luckily, I see only extraordinary people around me. Rely on one another in the coming fight and know that you are stronger for the person standing next to you." She gave them a moment to let this sink in, catching a few nodded heads and smiles of acknowledgement before continuing.
"We have coordinated with Jenny Ransome - her team has engaged with the majority of the Magistrates still on the ground. What remains is for us to target strategic points around the city in order to cripple their ability to provision and coordinate their defenses. You will all be expected to participate in these attacks; once the groups have been organized I will ensure you are all briefed and strategically prepared before we depart." The mantle of team leader was easier to slip into than she had expected; there was no time to ponder that now, however. "Questions will be dealt with at the end. For now, the targets. Kurt?"
Kurt stepped forward, all business. "The targets are as follows: the command bunker, which will certainly be heavily defended and will need heavy hitters for any assault to succeed. The motor pool, where the assigned team will render escape by vehicle impossible. The physical plant, obviously to give the Magistrates power supply problems, the armour laager, and finally one team will flank the Citadel from oceanside to cut off any attempt at reinforcement or regrouping."
Lorna listened to Ororo's talk. It helped with her encouraging words, Lorna was ready to fight back. Her attention was turned to Kurt who explained the targets, when he finished she spoke up. "I'll take a team and go to the Physical Plant. Time to cut some power."
Emma did a quick sift through Kurt's mind, getting more detail and visuals of the targets. "If we're going to take down the armour pool, I'm probably the closest thing we have to invulnerable to what they might have on hand." She nodded at Jubilee. "I think your skills might be useful; any objections to taking on a tank or two?"
Jubilee saluted smartly, her inability to talk currently due to injuries just as annoying to her now as at any other time in the past few days. If she managed to actually catch up with either of the people responsible for her current injuries, she was going to take it out of their hides with extreme prejudice. But she figured the salute would be enough to say she was most definitely in with that plan and had no specific objections currently.
"I'm stacking quite a bit right now," Marius noted, flexing a clawed hand with a small nod of acknowledgement at Catseye. "Chaos, shifting, strength et cetera. Could probably handle the command bunker. Likewise, Ms. Frost is no longer the only invulnerable one, eh?" He turned to grin at Molly. "We've one of our heavy hitters back."
Molly glanced up at Mr. Marius, a bright grin lighting up her face before she glanced around. "Yeah! Can I help with a tank too?" she said, blinking hopefully. She'd never got to do that before. Trucks and muscley guys but not tanks. That'd be awesome!
"I can bend the gun thingy and it can't fire...saw that on a movie once! And um...lift stuff too," she said.
"How about you stick with your friend with the claws," Wade said, smiling at Molly's enthusiasm. While he was pretty sure she actually could bend the main gun of an armored tank in half and possibly break it, he knew he wouldn't be able to concentrate if she was running around, dodging canon shots. He knew intuitively that she'd be fine, since she had her powers back, but his compartmentalization abilities were fraying at the edges. "I'll volunteer to go, though, and tell you all about it." And hey, if he got inside one of those tanks? He was pretty sure he'd have a fantastic time blowing shit up.
Meggan was listening to all the instructions for everything with a rapt, if quietly nervous, attention. She was ready to help if she could with the fighting, even if it was just something in the style of playing whack-a-mole from above with the stolen baton...which she still had in her possession, not having let a killer tree take it away.
Adrienne was reloading her weapons, listening with only half an ear. She just wanted to go home, crawl into bed, and not move for a week. But obviously that wasn't an option right now. "Send me and my two handguns and my one rifle where you need us," she muttered.
Catseye nodded in agreement, tail slashing the air purposefully. She'd go where she was told and do what she was asked. "But if I have to choose I wanna go to the ocean. Maybe once we beat these bad guys I can catch some fish."
“Save one for me,” North told the purple girl under his breath from where he was seated next to Adrienne. It was easy to fall into the role of mindlessly taking orders when his blood was relatively adrenaline-free and the spy was happy to just switch off his mental cogs for a breather even just for that while. To not have to think or feel was like sinking into a pool of blessed silence and peace. Louder, he blandly summed up his combat skills: “I have fists, guns, and I see the future… I kill people.” It seemed like all he had been doing, really. “I’ll go wherever want me to.”
Everyone else around her seemed a lot more confident than Layla felt. Hell, the 13 yr old was more confident and more useful than Layla was. She shifted the extended asp in her grasp from one hand to the other, trying to think about what she would possibly be useful for.
Bait. I would be awesome bait. The blonde didn't try to hide but she just sort of stood there, watching everyone else. She figured someone who knew way more about this shit than she did would eventually put her somewhere. Or they wouldn't and she could find a nice, semi-safe place to hide for a while.
"An electrical power plant, electricity powers, it would seem a natural decision for me, non?" Jean-Phillipe flipped his hand gracefully. It would be good to take decisive action. Very good indeed. Bring the fight to the Genoshan government, instead of the other way around. Find his cousin. Find Yvette, and Laurie, and all the friends that the mutate process had turned against them, and find a way to fix it.
"Motor pools' gonna need someone who can break cars and people. Ah've been gettin' practice at both," Fred said, looking towards Kurt, "Whoever goes there, I'll go too."
"Just point me at something I can kick in the face." Kyle said, scratching at his beard with fully extended and untrimmed claws. "Don't care if it kicks me back, I get up from that shit." It didn't seem to matter how much exercise he was doing, he was just pissed off. Not to the point of wanting to eat someone's face anymore, but people needed to be hurt.
"I always did enjoy an ocean view," Wanda remarked, "so I think I shall join Catseye on that mission." She had her shirt rucked up to just under her breasts as she was replacing the jerry-rigged wraps that they'd placed around her ribcage. The pain was still there but the wrap helped more than she would have thought. She'd still be slow going but at least she could mitigate the damage now. Wanda wondered how many injuries they were going to have to heal from when they got back from Genosha and how many of those injuries wouldn't be physically apparent.
"Someone mentioned a physical plant, right?" Angel asked no one in particular. She wasn't actually looking for answers - just kind of thinking out-loud to herself. She stretched her arms a bit, joints popping and her badly abused back twitching uncomfortably. But she'd pushed it this far, so what was a little further? "Because cutting out a large-scale power supply totally sounds like it's right up my alley and I'd be more than happy to blow up a few machines should the situation call for it."
"Where should I go?" Megan asked. "Does anyone need a flier?" She didn't know much about fighting tactics, and she really didn't relish the idea of getting into a combat situation, but she was determined to help in whatever way she could. Having an objective would keep her mind off the horrific violence she was encountering so personally for the first time.
A flier would be very advantageous. "Catseye and I are ground based," she said, turning to Megan, "so we could certainly use someone who can keep an eye from the air for us."
"I'll go where-the-fuck-ever," Cammie said, cracking the knuckles on her left hand, "I just want to punch someone in the fucking face."
Matt cracked his knuckles, thinking about what his dad might say or do in this situation. Or what he would do if he knew his son was in it! "I can call stuff you can't see," he spoke up, "My hearing and sonar are pretty good for detecting things early," he wasn't so great in battle, but he wanted to do his part. "I can go with anyone though."
"I'll join the team headed for the command bunker," Vance spoke up, his face grim and determined as he ignored the visible bruises and damage he was contending with. He was hardly the worst off amongst them. He looked over to both Marius and Molly, offering the latter just a slight smile at the corners of his lips, before he looked back to Ororo. "With that offensive set, you'll need someone who can help play defense-- keep the heat off your backs."
"I can help with the punching holes in things with engines part of the deal, then," Paige replied, smiling at Fred, her new teammate. "That should at least slow them down to on foot."
"It sounds like we all have a general idea of what they can do and where they want to go," Warren said once everyone had chimed in. "We can start moving out once we finalize the teams." He looked around at everyone - injured, tired, but all so determined to do their part.
"I know everyone's tired, and we've all been through a great deal over the past few days. But we've got this. Every single one of us has done an amazing job so far, and I have no doubt that that will continue."
