In an act of Supreme Stupid (and premeditated law-breaking), Matt convinces Molly to go with him to NYC for some fun. It's a cover for other things.

"Psst!" Matt snuck into Molly's room, having picked the lock. "Wake up!" It was nearly dawn. He was dressed for the day already, but then, he hadn't slept. He hadn't been sleeping well at all since coming back from Genosha, passing out due more to exhaustion than anything else and sleeping for short periods, plagued by terrible nightmares.

Molly's sheets and blankets were rumpled but she wasn't there. There was a tiny heart beat coming from under the bed, however.

He stuck his head under the bed, "Morning," he couldn't see her, but that didn't matter at all. Her heartbeat jumped and he felt bad, "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you."

A few moments passed and Molly slowly crawled out from under the bed. "Matt?" she said quietly, rubbing her eyes. "What's going on?"

"Let's go have fun," he said, "I wanna get away."

Molly frowned. "But...It's really early," she said. The outside window was orange and everything.

"Nobody's awake to have fun."

"I know that," Matt laid down so they were on the same level, "but we could take the train and go into the city. By the time we get there, everyone'll be awake to do stuff!"

Molly glanced over to Meggan's bed. Meggan was in Korvus's room a lot lately. "Why do you wanna go to the city? It's really far away."

They just got home. She didn't know why Matt wanted to leave again.

"'Cause I wanna go home," he explained to her. He was from the city after all. "It's not that far."

Molly tilted her head, blinking up at him. "This is home," she said. She glanced down a little.

"It's...not yours?"

He sighed, "Molly..." he trailed off, "No. I mean, I live here, but my home is in New York. It's where I always lived before here," he wasn't sure she'd understand. He'd only been at Xavier's for a year. He'd lived in New York City his entire life.

Fiddling with the hem of her pajama shirt. Molly fell silent for a few moments. "Like home is for me in LA."

"So...you wanna...visit?" she said.

He seemed like he really wanted to go, and the city was closer than LA. It'd be nice if home could make him happy. He was so sad now. Everyone was so sad.

"Yeah, I wanna visit," he agreed. It wasn't all that far to the city. Just an hour by train. "Come on. I'll show you the good stuff."

Chewing on her lip, Molly scratched her nose, then nodded a little. "Okay," she said. She hadn't been to the city with Matt by themselves before. What if there was a mugger? She didn't want him to get robbed. They did that on TV. And she could punch them if they did.

Smiling, Matt got up so that Molly could, not mentioning that she was hiding out under her bed. He got why she might do that. "Get dressed and stuff then. I won't look," he joked. Matt was not worried about muggers.

"I'll be...um...in the bathroom," Molly said. She didn't think Matt would peek but it still felt funny to be in the same room when that stuff was, y'know, happening. She grabbed some clothes and ducked inside the bathroom, then came out a couple of minutes later. The hat selection would be last cause that was important.

"What about a...apple hat?"

New York had something to do with apples, right?

Matt sat on the floor waiting for Molly, amused that she changed in the bathroom, but didn't say anything. Even with his powers, he couldn't quite peek that well. "Apple hats are good," Matt agreed, unusure why she was asking him. It was a hat and he didn't care which one she wore. "Wear whichever one makes you happy."

"All of them make me happy," Molly said with absolute certainty. She loved all her hats. If she could wear them all at once she would.

"So uh..." She threw up her hands. "Now what?"

"Now we go," Matt replied. "Got your phone?" he had his, but he wanted to make sure she had hers too, just in case. He wasn't sure if they could get the bus to the train station or not, but he was pretty sure they could, it was early, but not so early that the buses didn't run. He got up and headed to the door so they could head out.

"Um..." Molly glanced around, then rummaged around in her nightstand drawer and pulled the power chargey cord thing off. "Now i do," she said. Tucking it into her pocket, she adjusted her apple hat. Wasn't sure what else she'd need for the visit, though.

"Awesome."

The walk to the bus and then the ride to the station were uneventful. No one bothered them since more than likely, everyone was still too sleeping to think much about a blind boy and a young teen girl out at this time of morning. Once they were on the train, Matt closed his eyes to nap. It was an hour ride into the city, they had some time to sleep again.

Molly stayed awake, mainly to watch the countryside go by, and Matt while he slept. They were by themselves so she wanted to make sure they were safe and stuff. There were carjackers before, and bad guys in many places so better to be safe than sorry. The sun was nearly up by now so the sky was a bright blue with fluffy clouds.

When they got to Grand Central Station, Matt guided them with ease. This was not his first time here and being a native New Yorker, he practically had the subway system memorized. His cane had been replaced and it swung in front of him confidently as he cleared a path, "Okay, we get the next train and then it's just a couple stops," he explained to Molly, all his senses working. "What time is it?"

People rushed by, many in suits, reading the paper, drinking coffee. Some were dressed in normal clothes but everybody was in a hurry. Molly watched them as they ran around, checking their watches and their phones. She glanced up at the big clock above the train schedule.

"Um....9..." She squinted. It was hard to figure out what the clock hand said sometimes. "50-something. Three?"

"Perfect!" Matt's head was beginning to pound from all the sounds of the people around him and he really wasn't feeling the crowd, but he acted like he didn't care, "One more train. Then we'll get there. You'll love it," had he told her where they were going? He didn't remember.

Molly answered that question with her own question, "Coney Island?" she said. She'd never been there before. Or had she? She couldn't remember.

"Not quite," Matt laughed a little, he'd been to Coney Island. It was alright, but not great, "That's in Brooklyn. This is Manhattan," he was from Manhattan, not Brooklyn. It made a difference. "C'mon. We're going to FAO Schwartz."

It was pretty remarkable how wide Molly's eyes got. The excitement spread visibly outwards from her eyes, radiating into bright grin and an excitement that made her hop up and down a couple of times.

"Really? Seriously? dude, okay!"

That was even better. What would make it the best is if they had HATS there.

"Which way?"

Matt had no idea if they had hats. They probably had some sort of dress up stuff though, right? He had only been there once, years ago. "Towards 5th Avenue, of course," Matt replied, heading off with Molly on his arm. "It's where the posh go. And we're posh, right? Because we live up in Westchester and all that," he was making most of this up as he went along and didn't care. He knew one thing though, he was not at all fancy or 5th Avenue material. Ever.

Molly nodded. "Uh huh. I have top hats we can wear if we need them but they're back at the mansion so we can have invisible ones," she said. She glanced around at people as they passed really carefully. Most looked nice, though. But big crowds she tried to avoid cause bad stuff happened in big crowds.

"Sounds good to me," Matt agreed as they took the stairs to street level, his cane tapping lightly on each one as he climbed them. "What's with your obsession with hats anyways? I mean, hats are great, especially in the winter, but you have a lot of hats."

Hunching her shoulders a little, Molly shrugged. "I dunno..." she admitted. "Cause...they make me happy?"

She didn't really think that much about it. She'd been collecting them for as long as she could remember.

"Good enough," Matt agreed. He wasn't trying to say it was a bad thing, he was mostly just curious. "Keep your eyes out. I think we're getting close," he had a mental map of Manhattan in his head and they were on 5th Avenue.

Molly stepped past a guy on a bicycle as he rode past, and a hot dog vendor. The hot dogs smelled good. It made her stomach rumble. They hadn't gotten to eat breakfast yet.

"Are we going there cause of me?"

"Sorta," Matt agreed. "Not entirely though. I wanna go. And I thought you'd like it too," he knew a guy who worked the streets out this way and he was going to meet up with him later. This was a good way to explain it though in case it didn't work out. Fancy people liked the good stuff too.

"Oh" Molly said, nodding a little. She stopped quickly after a moment, then pointed. "I see it!" she said.

"It's like...a half a block away."

"Awesome! Then you can lead us there," Matt's powers let him know that she had pointed, bit the city was so noisy in general that it was all something if a blur in his mind unless he concentrated.

"Okay!" Molly said. She carefully guided him, making sure not to get in anybody's way until they were there. "Okay there's two steps up and then we're gonna go through a glass door."

Heading in, Matt let Molly go run around where ever she wanted, that was the point to being here. He also went to check out some of the stuff aimed at guys, curious if there might be something he would be interested in. Being blind, he wasn't so interested in things like video games like a lot of guys his age. Plus, he was too old for things like legos. When he was little though he would have potentially given everything for some of the lego sets.

After a while, he checked on Molly, then headed back out the front door and around the corner, leaving her there. When he heard another guy approach, he stood up from where he leaned against the wall, "You got it?" he asked, recognizing the smell and the heartbeat.

"Yeah," the other guy replied shortly, "Can't believe you made me come up to fuckin' 5th Ave," he complained.

"Shut it. I'm making it worth your time, yeah? Four now and more later." Matt pulled some cash from his pocket. It was basically all he had, but it was enough.

"Yeah," the guy nodded, taking the money and giving Matt a small plastic ziploc bag at the same time. Without saying anything else, he walked away.

Shoving the bag in his pocket, Matt headed back to FAO Schwartz before Molly realized that he was gone.
