Log: Megan and Tandy
Aug. 8th, 2012 10:59 amMegan was glad to spend the day indoors for a change - New York got far too hot in the summer, and she was tired of spending money every time she went out. She had gotten ahold of Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus for free and was hoping it would either really awesome, or so bad it was awesome. She popped the burned DVD into the player and sat back in the comfy chair in the rec room - before bolting up when the microwave dinged. The popcorn would probably need another minute - and if she waited more than a second to restart the microwave, it always seemed to cause burning instead of cooking the unpopped kernels.
It was the smell of popcorn that lured Tandy into the rec room, she entered the room to see someone there. "Hi." Tandy said as she walked in and saw that the main menu for the Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus on the screen. "Mind if I join you...Megan right?" Making sure she was learning people's name those she didn't formally meet them yet.
"Sure!" Megan greeted the younger student. She gingerly held the bag of popcorn by the strip of packaging at the top and shook it. She didn't hear much rattling, so it was probably done after all.
"Yep, that's me! You're one of the new ones... Popcorn?" asked the recent grad. Of course she had seen the pretty teen around campus but everything right before and after Genosha was kind of a blur to Megan. She carefully peeled the bag of popcorn open and almost dropped it when the hot steam jumped out. "I mean, you're Tandy, right, and do you want some popcorn?" she clarified, realizing it sounded like she thought Tandy's name was Popcorn.
"Trying not to burn the popcorn?" Tandy smiled at her knowingly. "I have done that one too many times. Learned that when it slows down on the popping it means it is close to done." She sat down on the couch, "Yes. Tandy...didn't think you were going to give me a new nickname. Layla already gave me one. And sure, popcorn would be nice. Have you seen this movie before?" Pointing to the t.v. screen.
"I think it's OK!" Megan said as she poured it into a large bowl and set it down in front of them. "Hot though. Aha, so you've met Layla. What did she name you?" she asked, curious. Layla was a fun friend - they'd even gone bungee jumping earlier this year. She clicked play on the remote and the epic adventure of two giant prehistoric monsters began. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long before they appeared on screen and started terrorizing the humans. "I haven't seen this yet - I hope it's good. Or so bad it's good!"
"Key Inept Klepto." Tandy said as she popped in a popcorn into her mouth. "Had trouble on my first day getting into my suite and she thought I was a Klepto. KIK for short." Smiling, remembering the memory. "It is on my 'To watch' list. But never got around to watch it. I can tell already it is going to be so bad that it is good."
Megan giggled. "Cute abbreviation. Keeeek," she tried pronouncing it out. "OK, I promise I won't call you that." She reached into the bowl with her purple-and-lime-green painted fingernails and tossed several pieces of popcorn into her mouth. "You can call me by my nickname, Pixie, if you want. Wade calls me Pinkie. 'Cause of my hair - I guess it made me easy to spot on the battlefield when he was looking out for me."
Tandy laughed at Megan pronouncing it, "Sounds like an alien word or something. Okay Pixie, it sounds like a lot of fun. And is that really your natural hair color?"
"Yeah, I used to bleach it. Not only 'cause it was weird, but I always liked purple more than pink! If I was going to have a crazy mutant hair color, why couldn't it have been purple? Or green? But I guess it's not so bad."
"Pink is a lot better for the hair color. Most people would think you are into the rocker crowd. Blends easier." Tandy looked at her hair, "Totally better than being blonde."
"Blonde looks good on you! But if you want to change it, I am pretty good at hair-dying with the box kind that you can buy at the store," Megan offered. Hair-dying was always fun.
"Thanks and I'll think about it. There is always the possibility of just trying something different." Tandy popped another popcorn into her mouth, "It might freak my uncle out a bit." As she was thinking about it.
Megan glanced at the screen, where people were doing Science. There were even test tubes and beakers filled with liquids in bright candy colors. She wondered if she should try blue hairdye sometime.
"So, do you have family near New York? Where are you from?"
"My Uncle has a Church near District X, but I am from Ohio. Yea, it sounds like hell doesn't it?" Who in their right mind would want to live in Ohio? "Where you from?"
"I'm from Wales. Is Ohio not nice? I haven't been there. Well, there's ich towns everywhere, I guess. Wales is known for being really beautiful, but there are still parts where I wouldn't want to live. Mainly places where the company my dad worked for - it was a mining company - had big operations."
Tandy's eyes went big. "England? I always wanted to travel there. No, it is boring. I live in a closed gated community...where everyone's houses are hidden behind talls gates and fences with large bushes." Tilting her head to the side. "What kind of mining? Coal? Gold? Silver? Oil?"
"Yeah, coal. Evil company." Megan chomped on her popcorn, grinding the pieces to dust before swallowing. "I guess someday Dad will get his settlement out of them, according to the lawyer that's handling our family's stuff. Not that it will help Dad now, 'cause he passed away. But anyway... did you say England?" Megan fixed her all-black eyes on Tandy. "Wales is part of the United Kingdom - but not part of England!" She softened her glare with a small smile so Tandy would know she wasn't truly offended. Seriously, even the United States Post Office had tried to deliver her ebay purchases to her in Wales, comma, ENGLAND, before.
"I am sorry." She said in regards to Megan's dad. Tandy started to glow slightly and looked away slightly, she really should start paying attention in school. Seeing the smile, Tandy relaxed but it was too late, she was glowing now. "I will make sure to pay attention more in school. Especially when it comes to geographic stuff." She smiled back at Megan.
"No worries." Megan leaned back and relaxed into the couch. "I'm really not the best at geography myself. I'm more of an arts and literature girl. And of course I love training in flying. So, ah, if you don't mind me asking, what are your powers like?"
"Flying? That sounds like a lot of fun." Leaning her head back on the couch pillow and looked at the top of the t.v. "I made daggers made out of ...a light source that I generate. They can be dangerous to people so I rather not show it off."
"Wow, light daggers really cool.I'll bet that, after a year or two at Xavier's, you'll be able to show it off without risking hurting anyone." Megan's all-black eyes misted for a moment, thinking of how school was over already. "I even got OK with my other power, my semi-toxic dust. But the flying is still my favorite power, and my flying teacher was amazing."
"When that day comes I'll show you." Tandy said with a smile on her face. "Semi-toxic dust? What do you mean by semi? I am slightly jealous for those that can fly. The closest I ever came to flying was on a plane."
"Well, technically it is toxic - I guess I said 'semi' because it won't cause death or permanent harm. My skin sometimes makes a dust that, if breathed in or absorbed through your skin, makes you hallucinate. It's kind of tough to use in a fight, but it has helped me escape a few times. And it seems like it might have some therapeutic effects for some people, which I hope to work on more. I was pretty jealous of people here who had more useful powers, but I'm OK with it now. Everyone here is special in their own way - it's pretty amazing."
"Ah" She said in understanding to the semi part. "So your powers would give someone a trip either from hell or sent from above?" Tandy said with a mischievous smirk on her lips, though she meant nothing by it personally. Tandy nodded, liking Megan's response about how everyone is special in their own way. "I still thinking flying is pretty cool though." Taking a popcorn, tossing it into the air and catching it in her mouth. "And pink hair...pink hair is always a plus."
Megan laughed. "That's a good way of putting it. I like that. And I won't lie... flying is pretty fun." She grinned. "I wish I could describe it but I can't. But I could totally give you pink hair, with Manic Panic. If you decide to freak your uncle out a bit."
Tandy grinned, "I think I'll take you up on your offer. I think it is expected of me to do the extremes...cause you know I am a teenager after all."
"Exactly! Now's the time to do wild and crazy things." Meanwhile, on the screen, the navy was trying to blow up the giant shark.
"The first thing on the wild and crazy list is to finish this bowl of popcorn and watching this incredibly awesome movie. I wonder if the Giant Octopus is in regards to Cthulhu." Tandy said outloud as the girls continue to eat the popcorn and chit chat through the movie.
