Log: Angelo and Sam, Tuesday afternoon (backdated to December 18th, 2012)

Sam pays Angelo a visit to discuss his future plans and making a big change in his life.


Sam had been thinking a lot about his role at Xavier's and what he wanted to do with his life since his last trip home. While he knew that teaching was certainly an important job, he wanted to do something more hands on. Angelo's newest project was very appealing to him, and the more he thought about it the more he leaned towards asking for a role within that organization. It'd mean cutting back a lot on his teaching, if not stepping away from the position entirely, but if it helped him feel like he was doing something more fulfilling and rewarding with his life then that's what he'd have to do.

The first step in his plan was to talk to Angelo and see what his options were. So he headed for his friend's place, knocking on the door lightly once he arrived.

"Sam!" Angelo said in surprise when he opened the door, hauling Joyita back by the collar from her typical overenthusiastic greeting. "What brings you all the way out here to see me? Come on in."

"Heya, how are you?" Sam did as he was told, entering the room and shutting the door behind him to prevent Joyita from escaping. "It's been awhile since we talked so I reckoned I'd stop by, see how things were goin' for you." He reached down to pet the dog once he was inside. "And Joyita too, how are ya, girl?"

"She's the same puppy in her head she always was", was the amused response. "Eight years old and still all about playing. Things're good for me, busy but that's how I like it."

Sam nodded, standing back up from petting Joyita. "Busy is good, yeah. Especially when you like what you're doing. Which is kinda what I wanted to talk to you about, actually." He figured he might as well cut to the chase, as there'd be time for small talk afterward. "If you're free, I mean, I don't mean to intrude of course."

Angelo shrugged. "Wasn't doing anything that can't wait right now, and that sounds interesting. You want to talk about what we're doing?"

"I do, yes, and what I can do to help. I've had a chat with the Professor about stepping back some from teaching, after what happened back home, it's..." Sam shook his head. "It's fulfilling, of course, but it's not what I want to do. Not completely, anyway, when I feel like I have more to offer."

Angelo nodded. "Well, there's room in X-Corps for... whoever I say there's room for, pretty much. What sort of thing would you be wanting to do?"

"I'm interested in whatever you've got, really. I just want to throw myself into it, you know?" Sam rubbed his chin and thought about it a bit more. "Anything that requires a lot of travel, a lot of hours, whatever that might entail. Field work would be nice again, I miss that sometimes."

"Travel, long hours and field work, I can definitely give you", Angelo said with a grin. "But I should warn you the last field visit ended with me nearly getting set on fire, again, so be careful what you wish for. Any particular areas you'd want to look at?"

"Set on fire?" Sam blinked at that. "Heh, well, so did my last trip home, actually, now that I think about it. Wherever you think I can be the most helpful, Angelo, that'd be great with me. I'm up for travel anywhere too, I miss it to be honest."

"Okay, well, you haven't done this exact kind of work before, so I'll put you in at entry level and we'll see how it goes. Even entry level could easily involve travel, as part of a team."

"Alright, that sounds like a good place to start." Sam said with a smile. "I'd really appreciate that, it'd be nice to be back out and about again. Oh, and I've already discussed this with the Professor, just to make sure it'd be ok, and we're all on the same page." He'd approached Xavier first out of respect to make sure he wouldn't be leaving the school or its students in the lurch.

Angelo nodded. "I'd have had to run it past him anyway - I might be the boss in real terms, but it's his money. Glad to hear you got there first."

"Yeah, I didn't want to step on anyone's toes. And yeah, he's the one holdin' the purse strings, heh." Sam grinned. "But if he's still ok with it, and you are too, then I'm in, my man." He reached out to shake his friend's hand.

"Glad to have you on board!" Angelo reached over readily with a firm handshake. "It's a deal."

"Great to be aboard, thanks for havin' me." Sam shook the other man's hand enthusiastically. "Can't wait to get started."
