Lorna and Johnny: Sunday Afternoon

Johnny asks Lorna if he could be her assistant in the kitchens.


At least Lorna was always easy to find thought Johnny as he entered the kitchen. "Hey, uh, you got a minute?" he asked.

"One second...." She said as she finished up writing something in a journal and looked up from where she was sitting. "How may I help you? Hungry?"

He nodded. "Little bit, yeah. But, actually, I was wondering... I mean I don't really have a lot to do at the moment and well..." he trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck.

Walking to the fridge, "I got sandwiches, some fruit, left over pizza..." Looking over at Johnny with a raised eyebrow, "You want to help around the kitchen?"

"I'll have the yoghurt, I think." He took a tub out of the fridge and began to eat. "If you don't have too many assistants, yeah."

"Have you cooked anything before?" Lorna asked taking a seat again near her notebook. "And one could never have too many assistants."

"I did cooking here, remember? And home ec all the way through to senior year." Mostly because it was an easy A and, well, tasty food.

"I am making sure that you remember." Lorna smiled at him, "Okay. You are hired."

"What?"

"What?" Lorna looked at the white haired boy before smirking. "You wash your hands right?"

"My nonna made sure I washed my hands no matter what back when she used to babysit me," Johnny said. "So, yes, I wash my hands."

"Then you are hired. Cat is thinking about opening her own shop up and would need the extra pair of hands. If you want, we can do a test run."

"Catseye's starting a restaurant? Wow. Has she told anyone?" Johnny said and gave Lorna a relieved smile. "I think I'd like that test run. Thanks."

"She is thinking about it." Lorna returned the smile at him and then flipped her notebook over to view a calendar. "Okay let's see, how soon do you want to start this test run? I mean we can start it today and see how you fare with dinner preparations."

"Today?" Johnny put the yoghurt tub into the recycling bin. "Sure. That'd be great. What are we cooking?"

"Well let's see. We have the vegetarian and vegan dish and chicken marinara for everyone else."

"You have to make a vegan and a vegetarian dish every meal?" He'd mostly looked at them with vague distrust before eating the safer, more familiar parts of the meat dishes on offer. They were generally filed under 'it's just safer if I ignore those lentil things' in Johnny's head.

"Well yea. Not everyone eats meat, everyone in the mansion has their own dietary needs. And must be respected."

"Oh. That's a good point. I guess you're right," Johnny replied and shook his head.

"Don't worry. Everyone who helps in the kitchen has each others backs and I usually have the dinner plans already made, just the getting it done needs the help."

Johnny gave a relieved but sarcastic smile. "Oh, good. So you don't just throw me in the deep end and then sit back with some popcorn, laughing? So glad to hear that."

"Don't worry. There is a surprise pop quiz." Lorna said in a serious tone before a tiny smirk told she was teasing.

"You know, I already knew you were a little bit evil."

"Only a little bit?" Lorna smirk turned into a grin. "You will fit in here just fine."

"You're letting me help out here. That means that you're only a little evil."

"Now the question remains evil to who? You or the people who will eat what you prepare?"

"I think the answer to that is going to depend on what you have me me doing."

Lorna laughed, "Just follow the directions and you'll be fine."
