Finding themselves in a rather inhospitable world but with no way to get home, the kidnapped mutants turn the tables on their captors.
The sun blazed down on a blighted landscape. Bare and desolate, pocked with craters and chasms, punctuated with the skeletal outlines of dead trees and sharp, inhospitable rock formations, it was hard to imagine anything living here.
But something did indeed live there, and those somethings were expecting guests.
A portal tore the sky open, black flames flickering around the edges, and a number of shapes dropped out of it, crashing to the dusty earth below. Barely had they landed, when a hoarde of demonic figures descended upon them, armed with swords and spears and whips and their own long, dagger-like claws and teeth.
"Welcome, human scum."
"Try again." Angelo gave it everything he had, sharpening his skin into daggers of his own, moving to defend his friends' backs as best he could.
After the first shock of ground was beneath her once more, Meggan moved to quickly scramble back to her feet. She would do whatever she was able to, in order to help with getting out of this. Even if this was like nothing she had ever experienced…or felt…before.
Fred hit the ground and was quickly to his feet. Meggan was here, and she looked fine. Angelo looked ready to try his hand at...whatever the hell these things were. Most of them looked like older, meaner siblings of the things that had dragged Meggan here. That was good enough for him. Shouting, Fred ran towards the monster right in front of Angelo, throwing his massive fist at him. One of the best things about being outnumbered? You rarely had to worry about missing...
Callisto picked herself up off the ground in her own time brushing her clothes down as she took in the scene unfolding around her. She hadn't been immediately targeted by the horde, being rather less substantial looking than others present and not presently throwing herself at any of the creatures. When one did finally pounce in her direction, flying through the air toward her, she merely held a hand out in its direction - letting it quite literally ram its face into her waiting fist. Then, it seemed, she had little choice but to get into the fight, soon availing herself of some daggers and adding their projectile threat to her array of manoeuvres.
One of the creatures dove at Meggan, seemingly desperate to slash at her face now that others were fighting with people. Or maybe it just had the general urge to rip something open, like her chest. Whatever the cause, she darted upwards and out of its way, slamming into its head with both her feet as it came too close for comfort. It stunned it only for an instant, just enough for it to miss the next time and skitter away to regain its bearings. If only a wrench had been sucked through the portal, too. That might have been helpful right about now.
A sizzling bolt of electricity arced to strike a demon that was attempting to leap onto Angelo from behind. "Ne joue pas avec mon copain!" Jean-Phillipe snarled, the scent of ozone thick around him as more power crackled around his clenched fists.
The demon flew backwards, still sizzling slightly, and Angelo grabbed Meggan's hand and drew her to Jean-Phillipe's side, the three of them standing behind Fred - who really didn't need a shield, he was the shield. "Thanks for the save", he said quietly to Jean-Phillipe, with a quick flicker of a smile, then looked around for the others. Callisto seemed to be taking care of herself well enough, but...
"Jesus fucking Christ." Callisto stamped down, hard, on the neck of the latest beefy fiend to like its chances against her, a sickening crunch heralding its entrance to... wherever stuff went when you killed it here. She glanced around herself, taking in the scene. The horde was thinning somewhat, but still coming. Another two demons - one approximately humanoid but for the tentacles and the other something like a cross between a dog and a crab - were running at her now like... like in football when the big guys ran at the guy with the ball, whatever that was about. She'd never really been into team sports - apart from basketball, she'd always enjoyed that for some reas- The arrival of said attackers broke into her momentary reverie, bearing her to the ground beneath them. For a moment she was almost hidden from view, completely submerged in a mass of pincer and tentacle and mangy fur. Then the demons went still, fell backward away from her. Discarding their extracted throats - the dog-crab-thing one had been hard to find - Callisto pushed back to her feet, pausing to wring out one cuff. This was getting boring.
Was there anywhere to climb? Anywhere that was above the throng, where they could regroup or just get away from pinchers and claws and fangs? Meggan peered around Fred for just a moment—not long enough for claws to get her, or hands to clutch hair, before she ducked down and away from harm--it didn’t look like it, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t possible. More were always coming, but she didn’t need to warn about that as they clambered onward, it was obvious.
Fred had taken massive handfuls out of the demon that had been in front of Angelo, before shouting and wading into the wave of teeth and eyes. Fred could feel his pulse in his throat every second. Every punch had to turn into a grab, so he he throw some grotesque creature into another getting too close to him. Every glance or look had to turn into a headbutt or even a bite as he noticed some monster he'd missed getting too close. The unknown fear from falling through the portal, the initial fury at seeing real, live demons bearing down on his friends...it all gave way to a persistent throb of fury, a mix of screaming and fighting and adrenaline that Fred was fairly scared to say he didn't mind. It probably didn't help that wherever they were looked like just about the coolest Iron Maiden cover in history...
Plowing his way back towards his group, Fred swung the body of one of his larger victories into a crowd of lesser monsters. He looked to Angelo, frantic and wide eyed, "Get everyone out of here! Run! Anywhere! Just not here! Get em out-!" Fred would've kept on shouting if a larger quadrupedal monster hadn't thrown itself at the enormous X-Man, attacking with malformed hooves and teeth that Fred tried to rip out by the root.
"Can anybody see how we got here?" Angelo demanded, trying to look around without taking too much attention off their attackers. "Some sort of portal, probably look like something wrong with the air."
"Can't think, fighting," Callisto replied shortly, grabbing a sword straight from the hand of a nearby demon and stabbing it in the head with it.
“Oui, we were taken through a portal. But I do not see it any longer," Jean-Phillipe called back to Angelo, continuing to throw crackling bolts at any demon that looked like it might break through the defensive circle the others had sketched out. One took a high leap over Callisto as she closed to grapple with another, only to meet Jean-Phillipe's fully-charged hand clamping down over its face. "Meurs, pute!" he snarled as he bore it to the ground, continuing to pour power into the demon until it was a spasming lump on the ground.
Flying straight up and in a loop to evade a hissing, spitting demon that had leapt for her, Meggan was given a better view of the area. She didn’t see anything like the portal she’d come through, either...but she did see one scary looking place from her position, before she quickly rejoined the others. “There’s a castle,” she called out. “I saw a castle, just east of us!” Maybe there were portals home there? Or fewer demons, she wanted fewer of those!
"Not too keen on meeting what lives there", Angelo said grimly, "but any sort of shelter's better than none. Head east, then."
Grabbing hold of two rather lanky fiends and literally knocking their heads together (and exploding them in the process) Callisto turned away from the action to glance in the direction Meggan had gestured. She shrugged. It was as good a plan as any.
