Sooraya and Ty search collapsed houses.

"No one is here." Sooraya briskly reported after resuming her shape again, looking around the debris  lying around. Even despite all their work on trying to warn people beforehand, people were still caught by the water and still missing. "Let's check out that heap next?"

Ty straightened up and nodded. "Yes, ma'am," he said as he picked his way to where she directed. Very cautiously, as he wasn't very confident in his control yet, he used some shadows to relocate some rubble. His forehead wrinkled in concentration, he was half-terrified of finding someone, and being too late to help.

Sooraya wrinkled her nose a little at the unusual address, but she smiled at the boy when he lifted some of the debris in front of him. It seemed slightly wobbly now and then, but as they had checked more places, things seemed to more steady every time. "Looks like you are doing well." She commented casually.

He sort of smiled at her. A full smile didn't really seem to fit the situation. "B-been p-practicing," he said. He'd been practicing his speech therapy, too, but that seemed to fly out the window under the smallest bit of stress. He found it very frustrating.

She returned a half smile and surveyed the debris in front of her. "Alright, let me check the the situation before we move anymore bits. I don't want to risk things shifting and perhaps hurting someone underneath." At Ty's nod, she shifted once more and set about checking the debris.

Ty practiced flexing the shadows while she searched. It was much harder in the bright light of day, the shadows felt thready, barely there. He sort of had the feeling that he should be able to feel what they felt, but that was more than he was willing to try to understand. Instead, he watched Sooraya's... sand? Or was it her body? More things he wasn't ready to fully comprehend yet. He consciously stopped holding his breath.

The movement of the sand filling moving through the various hollows and spaces in the debris was familiar, something she had done countless times in both her Red X training, as well for her training as an X-men. Yet the sense of dread... even though she had felt it before... remained an uncomfortable companion.

One of the tendril brushed something that did not feel like like the hard wood or rock, but something that had the soft feel of flesh. She sped up, urgently resuming her form. "There is someone under there. Approximately here."

Oh boy, his turn.  Ty bit his lip and "felt" the scant shadows around them. He reached out to pull them together, make them stronger. They wove into and under the rubble, he shifted aside the first layer, careful not to let a single pebble drop. He continued until the body beneath was exposed.

Sooraya dropped to her knees next to the young man, not even noticing his pale purple skin and her first aid training kicking in.  "Sir, can you hear me?" Getting no response she bent over him searching for his breath. It took a few moments, but there it was. Faint and weak, but he was breathing. A tiny smile slid over her face as she sat up. "He is alive, Ty. We just need to get him to the triage post as soon as possible."

This part was even scarier. Ty nodded and wrapped the shadows around the made, solidified so he was immobile. He lifted him up and slid him along, from shadow to shadow. Sweat beaded his forehead and upper lip. Two hundred yards from the triage post, he ran out of steam. It was all he could do to lower him gently to the ground and not disturb any potential injuries. "I-I c-can't go any m-more," he said in defeat.

Sooraya looked up at him in concern, still carefully supporting the man's head. "Sit down for a moment, Ty and take a few deep breaths." She gently counseled him. "You did very well." Looking around, she alerted two of the more trained medical staff to come over and they took over, collaring the man and putting him on a backboard.

That done, Sooraya knelt down next to Ty. "Are you doing okay?"

He nodded tiredly, eyes closed as he tried to gather himself to do more work. "Just tired," he said reluctantly. Then an extremely loud and insistent burble came from his gut. His eyes popped open. "And hungry."

"Alright, that's it." Sooraya stood up and reached out with a hand. "On your feet, Ty. We are going to get you something to eat first before we go back out there again. One of the first rules of this kind of work is that you have to take care of yourself first. You cannot help others if you are too tired or too hungry." She gently scolded him, softening it with a slight smile.

Ty lumbered to his feet without a thought of protest. "Yes, ma'am," he said obediently, with perhaps a tiny bit of adoration in his eyes.

Sooraya shook her head as she guided him over to one of the other tents and a few moments later she handed him two power bars and one of the MRE like packages they had with them. "How is that?" She asked as she sat down herself and ripped the wrapper of a power bar of her own.

He made a face. "Filling," he said honestly, even as he stuffed both power bars into his mouth at once. He only paused to ask a question. "Will h-he be okay?" he asked, troubled.

"I hope so." Sooraya simply replied, not entirely sure herself. "I know the doctors will do everything they can. And they know what they are doing, Ty." She lifted the MRE and eyed the package. "Looks like I got you Beef Stroganoff." She easily put it in the flameless heater, waited the required amount of time. "Now finish that one as well."

Ty didn't even look at the name on the side of the packet, he just dug in. Hunger gnawed at his gut after his earlier exertions. "Thanks," he said between mouthfuls.

Sooraya watched him eat for a moment, then wordlessly stood up and went to retrieve him some more food. A few minutes later she returned with another two powers bars and a packaged sandwich. "Here, put these in your pack. Eat them when you need them, okay?"

He positively beamed at her. "Thank you!" he said, firmly and without a bit of stutter.

"You're welcome, Ty. Do you need more or are you ready to see if we can do some more out there?" Sooraya tilted her head at him, studying him a bit to see if he was steady once more.

He bounced to his feet, feeling refreshed. "Back to work," he said enthusiastically.

"Alright. Let's go then." Sooraya rose as well and headed towards one of the team leaders to be reassigned in the recovery efforts.
