Tandy & Ty| Hunger Pains (Backdated)
Jun. 24th, 2014 07:23 pmTy and Tandy practice in the quarry.
Ty concentrated as he moved rocks from one pile to another. He stacked
them with care, imagining people in the tendrils of his shadows.
Tandy's presence behind him felt warm, reassuring. He tried not to let
the memory of fear sway him, but it was hard.
"You are doing pretty good there Ty." Tan said sitting on one of the
rocks nearby, her moon around her eye was glowing but she couldn't
figure out why. "Seems like you are getting the hang of your powers."
"Th-this part, anyway," he said as he continued to move rocks. "I keep
thinking there has to be more to it. If what happened in the church
really wasn't you, it had to be m-me," he said. "C-can I really bring
the night?"
"Yea, my powers have more to do with light and less to do with
darkness. It was pretty dark that day. But it is okay - I will light
the way." Tilting her head as she looked at Ty. "Still can't recreate
it?"
Ty shook his head. "I can make the shadows that are there darker," he
demonstrated with the shadow of the quarry wall, turning the shade
into something closer to true night. "Or I can use it to lift and
move things, but I can't make it dark again," he said, frustrated.
"Maybe it reacts when you are in trouble? Mr. Haller has told me that
sometimes your emotions can have an effect on your powers. Like if you
feel in trouble it will react instinctively. It happened to me when my
powers first activated."
"How did you get it to happen again?" he asked. "I can't think the
teachers put your life in danger?" This didn't seem like a
sink-or-swim sort of place.
"Practice. It happened two years ago but there are times they just
happen. Usually during..." She trailed out and bit her lower lip. "My
nightmares. And just don't go on field trips. Apparently they are
cursed. I would throw daggers at you but that might end badly."
Ty stopped abruptly, shadowy fingers pulled back to their proper
places. He turned to stare at Tandy, especially the glowing
crescent moon on her face. "I'm not hungry," he said.
Tandy raised an eyebrow, "Not hungry? Well we did have lunch like an hour ago."
He shook his head, the puzzled expression growing more so. "Tan, I
can't remember the last time I wasn't hungry. I mean, with my parents
and on the street, it just wasn't there. But I've been eating all
the time since you kidnapped me from that church. I'm six inches
taller!"
"Well you are a growing boy right? And I didn't kidnap you from the
church. I was bring you to a safe location where people could help
you."
At that, Ty laughed. "Whatever you need to think, Sailor Moon. The
point is, right now? I'm not hungry. And I think your power is
active."
"Hey if you think I kidnapped you then why are you still here?" She
smirked slightly at the Sailor Moon comment. She looked down at her
skin, "I am not glowing. Why do you say that?"
"Because beautiful women keep feeding me, I have a warm bed at night,
and nobody putting experimental drugs in my food," he said. "Your
tattoo," he gestured at his own face. "It's shiny."
"So it is true. A way to a guys heart is through his stomach. Must be
the best case of kidnapping ever. Also your parents know you are
here." Tan smirked. "Is it? I thought that happens when shiny daggers
come out?" She stood up and looked around for a reflective surface.
Ty caught himself staring, and deliberately turned away. "I think the
hunger is related to my powers," he said. "I've been thinking about
it. The more I use them, the hungrier I get."
"What do you mean hungry? Like you need food all the time?" Tan asked
as she pulled out her phone to see her reflection. "Huh. You can see
my moon shining. Weird."
He grinned, still facing away from her. "Looks good on you," he teased.
Tan looked over at Ty and raised an eyebrow, "Are you giving me a
compliment Ty?"
He shrugged, glanced over his shoulder. "Just telling it like it is."
"Aren't you the charmer." Tan took a seat back on the rock and
smirked at him. "I go from kidnapper to getting compliments." And
laughed at that.
Ty turned back with a grin. "Hey, I had an idea. Could you make one of
those daggers? I want to try to touch it."
Her laughter stopped and she looked at him, "You are also crazy. Do
you know what happens when my daggers people. Bad things happened. I
already put several people into a coma, three of them happen to still
be in a coma."
"You already hit me with them once, moon girl," he tried his best to
be charming. "That's when the darkness happened." He put his hands up
and took a step back. "Tell you what, you just make one, and I'll
start walking towards you. I don't want you to hit me with it, and I
won't actually touch it. I'll stop before I do."
"But I will get in so much trouble if the dagger hit you. And I could
never forgive myself if anything bad happened to you. I would be the
kidnapper murder girl."
Ty sat on a rock to try to think of something else. "Maybe.. maybe if
you keep an eye on your glowy thing, while I walk away?"
"I can do that. I mean if you really want me to have daggers out I
rather do it where Adri won't murder me. I had some power issues last
year that ended pretty badly. I am still in therapy from it. Woah,
you are the first person I told that too."
"It's my sweet face," he said. "We can try it when we're in that super
fight club dome under the school. This, the walking thing, should at
least tell if it's me that's turning you into a street lamp, right?"
"Okay. Go for it." Tan said and pulled out her phone again to keep a
look on her eye.
Ty kept an eye on her as he started to walk backwards. He almost
couldn't help himself. She definitely wasn't hard to look at.
While Ty was walking backwards, Tandy kept an eye on her, well, eye.
After a few more steps back her moon started to fade. "Strange. It is
disappearing."
Ty started back toward her. "Think one of the teachers would let us
experiment?" He asked.
"Maybe. We can ask Mr. Garrison." Seeing her moon coming back glowing.
"What is going on here?" She stood up again and touched it.
He reached out, as if to touch the glowing mark, but stopped himself.
He shoved his hands into his back pockets. "Worth investigating?" he
asked.
"He is probably with Adri right now. We can ask him right now." She
didn't noticed that he had reached out. Lowering her phone and looked
at him, "But I don't feel any different."
He grinned. "Then I don't have to feel guilty about consuming your
soul or some shit."
"You probably are and I don't even know it! Soul sucker!" She said and
tried to be serious but it ended with a small smile.
Ty danced backward. "Hey now! You'd probably notice if it was that,"
he said defensively. Still, he backed up until her moon stopped
glowing. "Does it feel any different at all?"
"No. I found out long ago I am constantly generating this...light. If
I don't unleash it then I get really sick and it unleashes on its own.
Yea the first couple of times sucked. But I feel no different. At
least I got the glow worm part of my powers under control."
He tilted his head. "So, if that is what I'm... er, 'eating,' it may
be helpful to you," he said. "None of that soul-sucking nonsense."
"I have no idea. All I know you are doing something with my powers and
it is a little weird if you ask me."
Ty raised an eyebrow, giant grin on his face. "Woman, one of your
friends turns invisible. The headmaster can read our minds, and you
think my darkness feeding off your light is a little weird?"
Tandy gave him a little smile, "Yes? I mean it is my light. I never
had anyone feed off my soul before."
He nodded, and stepped back until she stopped glowing. "Well, let's go
get a sandwich."
"And now we come back to the question, are you always hungry?" Tandy stood up and put her phone into her back pocket. "Let's go soul eater."
Ty concentrated as he moved rocks from one pile to another. He stacked
them with care, imagining people in the tendrils of his shadows.
