Logan, Shinobi: Welcome To The Asylum
Apr. 4th, 2004 07:36 pmLogan hunts down Shinobi, as Scott requested, and offers him a spot on the team. Shinobi accepts, slightly giddy at the thought, and Logan fills him in on some of the specifics.
Logan, remembering what Scott had asked him to do, was looking for Shinobi. He wasn't difficult to track and Logan found him, soon enough, sitting in the rec room on the second floor. "Gotta minute?" he asked with a shrug.
"Got lots of them," Shinobi replied, looking up from his book with a lopsided grin. He was a bit surprised that Logan had apparantly sought him out, but hey - he is rooming with Marie, so there are all manner of reasons he might be. "What's up?"
Logan seated himself in a chair near Shinobi. "Summers asked me t'come talk t'ya." He eyed the boy for a moment. "Y'know about the team, right?" He figured, between Marie and Emma, the kid ought to have a pretty good idea what the uniforms in the basement were for.
That, however, was a bit more surprising, and Shinobi blinked slowly before he replied. "I know a little bit, but not too many solid details," he admitted, shrugging a shoulder. "Try not to go on rumour too much, and while Marie does talk about it once in a while, I haven't really gone out of my way to ask."
"Y'know what we do, dontcha?" Logan asked, mentally berating Scott for not briefing him on how much the kid already knew.
"I have an idea, but I don't want to assume," Shinobi nodded. "General peace-keeping type stuff, right?"
Logan nodded. "Keepin' the humans from killin' all the mutants. An'," he frowned, "th'mutants from killin' all the humans. Inna nutshell."
Shinobi nodded, glancing down at his book for a moment before tucking his bookmark into place and setting it aside. "Must be pretty insane work." He looked up again, pausing, and a fair amount of curiousity finally crept into his voice. "Why do you ask?"
"There's a spot on th'team for ya, if y'want it," Logan offered bluntly. Insane was a good description for it, he thought.
He started to say 'Seriously?', but then realized who he was talking to. Confirmation of seriousness was hardly necessary. "Sure, I don't see why not," Shinobi replied after a moment, looking faintly bewildered. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm in."
Welcome to the asylum, Shinobi. "Y'can find yer leathers in the bay down past the labs," Logan said, and just like that, Shinobi was on the team. "Yer gonna get a message with a new passcode t'get ya by the basement security systems. An'," he said with a dry look, "Scott'll fill y'in on the dental plan, 'm sure."
"Ooh, dental. Nice." Shinobi cracked a grin, the humor a welcome handhold back to regaining his bearings. "The message with the code going to go into whatever else I need to know, or will Scott cover that after the 401K?"
"Scott'll cover the bennies. The message with the code'll tell ya 'bout the rooms downstairs't you'll have access to, now." Logan grinned. "The rest, you'll figure out next time we do a team trainin' session."
Shinobi grinned, whipping up a hand to snap off a mock-salute. "Hai, sensei!" Then, he coughed, looking a bit embarassed. "I probably shouldn't be quite this goofy about it, should I?"
Logan laughed, shrugging. "If yer not happy 'bout it, y'prob'ly don't belong on the team. You'll do fine, kid."
"That's reassuring," Shinobi replied honestly, regaining his grin and mentally marking his calendar. Logan, laughing? Stop the presses! "And so is the vote of confidence. Thank you."
"Yer welcome. I'll see ya t'morrow night in th'Danger Room," Logan said, standing to leave.
Shinobi nodded, grinning and pushing himself up to his feet. "Sounds like a plan to me. I can tell Sarah about this, right?"
"That yer on th'team? Sure." Logan walked toward the door. "But y'can't tell 'er any specifics 'bout missions," he said, turning back to face Shinobi. "Things like that're team-only."
"Makes sense to me," Shinobi nodded, loosely clasping his hands behind his back. "Mine lips are sealed, no worries."
Logan nodded, satisfied, and turned again to leave. He hadn't scared the kid off; Scott would be pleased.
